I've now finished most of the main 11 engines in their RWS form. I think its only appropriate to start with the number one engine, Thomas.
I couldn't decide what style Thomas I wanted to make... so I decided to make lots of different versions. This is what I call the 'Classic' style Thomas, or the Dalby/Kennedy style, as it is reminiscent of the early illustrations of Thomas, with the sloped footplate on the front end. It is probably the most iconic version of Thomas, but that also means its not the most exciting custom.
I cut out the cab door and the extended side tanks to make room for a separately fitted splasher. I took the splashers from a Henry model. I repainted the body, gave him a black running board, and cut out the slits in his bunker (quite poorly). The paint I've used for all my NWR blue engines is Australian Export Spray Paint Sky Blue. It is a cheap, non-hobby brand, but the sky blue shade is almost identical to the blue used for TOMY merchandise. I also cut off his funnel and replaced it with a lead weight, which is taller. I have done this with a lot of my engines and I really like how it makes him look smaller. I shortened the smokebox, which I think makes a world of difference in making him look shorter. I also removed the moulded lamp on his running board, and replaced it with a lamp iron. This allows me to change his head codes, and is something I am doing to all my RWS engines (namely Henry, Barry, BCE).
I've added builders plates, bufferbeam numbers, and back lining to all my new engines.
I have 3 other Thomas' I would like to show, but I will mix them in with other characters so as not to be too repetitive. Next up is RWS Edward.
