Just purchased a Tonex Pedal and I was wondering if running it through a tube power amp without a cab sim would be an accurate substitution. Once the high end was adjusted to compensate, the sounds are basically spot on. Thanks!
Yeah, Di profiles work really, really good. I tried them with regular D class power amp and cab and they seem to lack something in direct comparison (in my opinion).
hi. its direct captures profile or not? I have 3w power amp and real cabinet. where I can find Engl Savage mk1 and mk2 direct profiles for Tonex? thanks
@@rinatdautbaev1065 as long as you are using tube Poweramp. In my opinion Class D poweramp lacks something even with good di profiles. But if you have tonex, find free Direct profile on tonenet of that Amp and try it first.
@@galtonestudio thx. I have Amt Tubecake 3w, its great amp, I used it with Amt R2 Preamp (Mesa) and its sounds good but I want other sound now. Tubecake is amp build and sounds as tube amp (also Amt R2 preamp emulate tube amp) . but I dont know exactly, its can be called Class D or not
Wow! Sounds awesome. How do you control volume when you play the Tonex into the Effects return of the Tube amp? Does your amp have a separate volume control for it?
@@galtonestudio lol. I tried Harley Benton GPA-100 but I found it uninspiring with no glassy tone. I actually thought my boss katana power amp (class AB)sounded better. I was thinking of getting a Fender HRD and use the power amp in the hope that it will help sound more tube like. So the volume control is my main concern for both playing loud or playing in bedroom volume level.
For everyone saying "real amps kick ToneX ass" : I disagree. At least in regards to recorded and PA live sound. To me, they're so damn close you'd NEVER be able to tell the difference unless someone told you. Now, standing in a rehearsal space, a real amp and cab is going to literally feel different. It will move more air than most FRFRs. You'll actually feel it shake your chest and move hair on your legs. It will be louder. But, again, once both are miked (or DIed) through a PA, you'd never know the difference. And for a very, very, very small fraction of the price. Just my humble opinion.
@@dasfette thanks a lot for a comment, you are not alone :) I did +1000 profiles for Kemper/ToneX and it is obvious, you can get the same tone as as miced Amp/Cab. For the last 5 years i was Fortunate enough to have a regular studio with live and Control room so comparing miced cab and simulation was very easy. And well... They were always pretty much the same. Even in null tests it was so close that NO ONE would notice. But let's be honest, how many people recorded their tube amps even Once in a studio? Or played outside of their home on bigger stage? Not too many. So they are comparing what they know to miced tones which sound "digital" because they can't compare that to anything :)

I dare to disagree, especially in a studio scenario :) I'm not micing cabs anymore in my studio, direct profiles may differ, but miced profiles are 100% the same (and I did a lot of ab tests) :) But sure, if you need a full blown tube sound in a rehearsal room - amp will be better for that :)
