Tongue Channel.... Have shown my Tongue Channel to a few students, but was surprised to see this video of Doc Reinhardt explaining my tongue position to a student nearly half a century ago. Thank you Wayne Daniels for the link (below). As you can see in my video, my Tongue Channel contains the air in such a way that little is wasted. The Channel produces an oral cavity that is virtually the same in all registers, for a uniform sound all the way up.... Here's the Reinhardt video link of the explanation..... I strongly suspect that Maynard did the same.....

I’m a pretty half assed player, but it’s always made sense to me to avoid chops compression and arching the tongue if you want a big sound. It’s harder physically (to state the obvious) so any self-respecting trumpet player should be in great shape. Especially those of us who are not so young!

This is very interesting, Lynn. Using the the tongue as a guide for the air into the middle of the chops through the aperture while using the abs, etc to keep the air moving! I’ve had problems keeping my sound big as I ascend past high C or D! This may help me with that! Here’s hoping!👍

Hello teacher, fascinated with your advice. You can upload more information about the position of your tongue.

Thank you. This answers something I'd been wondering about. It addresses 2 issues which arise with both tongue level and TCE style approaches i.e. that while they can both work they tend to result in the sound getting thinner as the player ascends. What are your views on aperture? It seems to me that this is over-emphasised by some teachers as a large aperture means less lip inside the rim to vibrate. However, I could be wrong.

In simplest terms, the horizontal aperture should always be the same--All the way across the inner diameter of the mouthpiece on all notes at all volumes and in all registers. The vertical aperture varies with volume. The louder you play, the bigger the vertical aperture. You can see this easily on my Rim buzzing videos. You can tell how loud I am playing, but not which note I am playing..... And that is how I maintain a uniform sound in all registers, no matter how high I play..... ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-nUAPQSzkDtM.html
