THANK YOU!! I have always loved this sweet song. I have a little notebook with songs and notes that I keep in my case and it's filled mostly with songs I've learned from you! I can't tell you how awesome it is to have just picked up the uke and be able to play songs!

I was all excited when you said "as played by Steve Martin in The Jerk" but this isn't as he played it, not even close. :/

Most of the chords on this tutorial are oversimplified. The intro is G6 not G and Gsus4. the D and A should be D7 and A7, etc. This is a beginner version and not really how he plays it in the movie.

To give proper credit where it is due, Steve Martin did not play the uke part in the film. It was played by the legendary Lyle Ritz, who not only popularized jazz ukulele in Americe in the 50s, but went on to become a part of the legendary Wrecking Crew as a bass player, appearing on thousands of hit songs through the decades.

There are other tutorials that show how it's actually played in the movie. The correct chords are not beyond the ability of a beginner.

While this tutorial is very useful, it does not even closely resemble the actual performance in the film. With a few simple adjustments, the actual chords are both easily playable and sound much better. Here is a tutorial with the actual chords. No special tuning. On the intro, isn’t it more natural to pluck the G string open than to play it in the chord formation? Or is this incorrect?

Hi! sorry for sharing my humble video in the comments section, which I now understand is a huge no no. My channel has been suspended so I'm no longer (not that I ever was in a million years) a threat to the $$$ machine. I'm just a ukulele enthusiast and again I do apologize for my neglect in understand the rules.

Can you come to my house and teach me in person? LOL. I'm so hopeless. I have a good ear, but I'm dyslexic. I keep trying different instruments, but my brain messes me up. I've had my uke for a week and my fingers are killing me and I have a headache. Oy.

I have a question.. Yesterday I bought a Cordoba soprano ukulele, and I also bought a tuner. It is tuned, but it just doesn't sound right. mostly the 1st string that should be an A. It just sounds like its too tight. I don't know what it is. I've tried to change positions and even tried to change the pressure I put on the strings. Nothing works. I'm really frustrated. Please tell me what I'm doing wrong, I love your videos by the way (:

Is there a video that actually teaches the version in the film. This is pretty far off. Steve is a pretty talented musician. His is inverted, in a different key, and has loads of embellishments.

This is great but you go WAY too fast for someone just learning.

A lot wrong with this video unfortunately. There is dominant use of 7th chords in the Jerk version. You switch the postjon of G, to G7, then to a chord consisting of 0002, then to 0332, G, D7 and resolves on G. It adds much more tension and release to the verses and its what i hear when i watch the movie.

Isn't also a song of Eddie Vedder?
