For a hardcore British Australian monarchist and a Catholic, he is very keen, articulate, and open-minded. He was a good leader in 2013 to 2015 and a crown jewel of Anglophonic liberalism and justice. Truly one of the West's finest statesman and man of realpoltik! 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

@@lucasadam65 please substantiate these claims. The OP is right, every time a liberal government has stepped in (other than Turnbull who is a Wolf in Sheep's clothing) they have had to not only bring the budget into a surplus rather than the constant deficit Labor governments have brought, but improve on everything the Labor party did. They succeeded. Tony campaigned hard and fought hard against the far left "GetUp" campaign and the Labor party, and now we have won the election. Here's to three years of health and prosperity with the help of the Morrison government.

When we introduced the carbon tax in Australia individual income tax rates were slashed, raising the tax free threshold from $6000 to $18,00pa meaning that our tax revenue moved from things we want to encourage (employment) towards things we want to discourage (pollution). It was a great policy and the day that Abbott unwound it was a truly sad day in Australia's history.
@iansargent4029
@iansargent4029 5 лет назад
Matthew Smith- Are you nuts? Driving up energy prices does not encourage employment, except in China, Bangladesh and India, where all of our manufacturing jobs have been disappearing to for the last 30 years. Coupled with the fact that these countries are also exempt from the Paris Climate hoax targets for at least 15 years, as well as the FACT that Australia contributes less than 2% of the world’s pollution, it’s a stupid, stupid move.
@TheSmiddy
@TheSmiddy 5 лет назад
I didn't mention anything about the carbon tax increasing employment, merely that we lowered our income taxes when it was introduced (ie lowered the tax on employment) and raised a tax on pollution. But since you've bought it up, yes, changing energy sources does increase jobs in the short term, someone has to do the work of installing the equipment and designing the systems etc rather than just day to day maintenance. In the long term all jobs will be lost to automation regardless of whether we stay with coal or move to renewables so holding on to them for another 10 years is ultimately a drop in the ocean. Renewable energy is not the source of the increased power bills within Australia, if you were to remove all subsidies that both coal and renewables receive then both solar and wind, accompanied with an appropriately sized battery, already beat coal for total lifetime cost. The reason electricity bills have been increasing has been due to electricity distribution companies ramping up wholesale costs, not electricity generation companies. ( www.accc.gov.au/system/files/Retail%20Electricity%20Inquiry%20-%20Preliminary%20report%20-%2013%20November%202017.pdf ) Australia contributes 1.2% of global emissions while having 0.3% of world population, we're contributing 4x our fair share and thus need to act first. If we were already contributing less per capita than China then yes, I would agree with you. The entirety of the mining, electricity, gas and water industries accounts for 2.8% of all jobs in Australia, this is including renewable energy. Do you really think the risk of a systematic destruction of our entire ecosystem is worth maintaining the jobs of less than 1 in 35 Australians, most of which will easily be able to pivot to other jobs? ( www.aph.gov.au/About_Parliament/Parliamentary_Departments/Parliamentary_Library/pubs/rp/rp1718/Quick_Guides/EmployIndustry )

@David Velevski I'm a Labor voter and member of the party. I do not forget any Labor government. Many labor governments are behind the substantive reforms in Australia whether it is Chifley, Whitlam, Hawke or Keating. The most reformist governments have always been Labor. Even amid leadership turmoil the Rudd and Gillard governments were chief architects of the NBN, NDIS scheme and Gonski school reform with the Gillard government being the main designer of the NDIS and school reforms. Significant reforms to the entire financial services sector was delivered by the Rudd government after they saw Australia through the 2008 GFC. I will take Rudd and Gillard any day over this embarrassment of a Federal Coalition government in Canberra. Apparently many rusted on Liberal voters do not even want to vote Liberal anymore as was self evident in the Victorian 2018 election. Remember that the ALP has spent significantly less time in government than the Liberal party.
@dr94279
@dr94279 5 лет назад
@@PattoDan88 NBN is a joke, Rudd had decent policies but sadly a terrible personality, hence why he got kicked out. I think though that under Shorten, Labor will move away from the sound economic policies of the past to more populist-left policies to garner votes.
@Vgallo
@Vgallo 5 лет назад
@David Velevski im agreement with you but would also add, the only reason the labor government was able to give a financial stimulus was because of the careful financial governing done by the Howard govt who got australia back in the black, without that labor could not be falsely labelled as the architects behind Australia's good performance through the gfc. the decision for stimulus was indeed a good one but the fact they were able to do it is because of the Howard govt, next time there is a gfc we most likely wont be able to do that and that is largely due to the stereotypical labor spending, so claiming that they are behind so many reforms that have delivered deficit budgets time and time again is not something labor voters should be proud of, theyve had 1 succesful period in the boom time of the 80's by endorsing right wing economic policies, the opposite of what most of the labor socialists believe in. Its always the same with everything leftwing, it all sounds good on the surface but upon deeper analysis it is revealed as bunk, just like socialism, only the young and the ignorant buy into it. Have a listen to Kevin "narcissist" Rudd's speech, besides being in love with his communist mates in china and saying "trump bad china good" what does he add? besides heaping praise on himself and offering some truly woeful unsophisticated pop Theology, the guy is an absolute pretender only concerned with winning popularity contests, at least Tony abbot tried to right the ship and make the unpopular decision of cutting back on out of control spending, but of course labor couldnt be in agreement with something thats unpopular but good for the country, no theyre way to concerned with being superficial as is evident in their narcissistic and intellectually bankrupt leaders, have you heard one of their latest policies about the mythical gender pay gap??? I mean how stupid are their electorate that they can endorse policies that are largely myths perpetuated by disgruntled feminists, there is not one serious economist that has endorsed the gender wage gap, it has been thoroughly debunked even leftwing economists understand it is caused largely by womens choices to leave the workforce and have children yet our federal labor govt actually builds a policy around something that doesnt exist?????? and people are going to trust them with the economy??

Even on his push back the boat's policy that he was most proud of, he savages a report on hundreds of children being abused in detention centres by saying he feels 'no guilt'. Surely a liberal voter would listen, even if they say that Abbott didn't say that afterwards lol.

Would the foreign workers tax Abbott suggest also apply to overseas call centres for example? How about overseas manufacturing? It's extremely rare that local jobs are "stolen" by "importing docile foreigners" most jobs are actually being lost to automation and outsourcing to countries with lower costs of living and substandard working conditions. The foreign workers tax is a dumb, ineffective dog whistle.
