I love watching Tony Allen, Avery Bradley, Kawhi Leonard, Alan Anderson, Patrick Beverly and others like Bruce Bowen, Dennis Rodman, Ben Wallace, Scottie Pippen and Ron Artest (Metta World Peace). You don't get many player who are "up to play defence" these days. Even Kobe is a beast when he decides to play D.
Christian Schaefer absolutely. if you get a chance, catch Kobe vs McGrady defense compilation somewhere on RU-vid - it's beautiful to see Kobe's relentless ferocity on easily one of the all-time great offensive forces in T-Mac. That shit is riveting to watch.
HelloNiceToMeetYou Definitely. A lot of Bulls players too, though their D is more 'collective defence'... that 04/05 Pistons team, though. /that was something else. Grizzlies now, good as they are defensively, nowhere near that Pistons team.
Tony Allen is the best lockdown defender in the NBA. He hustles hard. I would recommend ANY young upcoming basketball player to watch Tony Allen. ....Defensively. Most of his offense is a result of his hustle and defense... (fast-breaks). Go Grizzlies.!
Jeremy P. No wasn't and any video you're deluded mind is watching is less than 0.1% of his play. That video in particular includes less than 0.001%. Kobe is shite defensively.
+nigga851 I kind of agree. I feel like his defense is overrated tho. He plays uber aggressive and sometimes goes for really easy ball fakes. He reaches a lot and isn't the most disciplined defender in the game. He makes up for it with good hustle and a high motor. But you can see him being too aggressive too often.
+Edward Dominguez Disagree. Jimmy Butler is better. 1. J.Butler 2. Allen 3. Kawhi 4. Pat Beverly 5. Bradley. Tony Allen sometimes gambles too much and falls to pump fakes. Thats one of the reasons Memphis had a bad time against GSW along with Conley being injured.
Tony wasn't a 100% that series he had a hamstring problem. But hey if you think Jimmy is better I wouldn't argue that. Jimmy is awesome on both ends of the court.
Its always a struggle when someone shorter guards you, unless you post up all day. I'm 6' and I hate when someone 5'5 with speed guards me, I always gotta be careful with my dribble. anyone else have this problem?
Remember that smaller players that will try to steal the ball from you are going be very edgy, shot fake, pump fake, hesitations and if they bite for it, capitalize and make em pay for it.
I feel you, the thought of getting crossed up real bad is the worse lol what works for me best is forcing them to go to their non dominant hand by putting a foot in the way of going their dominant way. Jimmy Butler is the best at doing this, give them a lane to want to drive with their non dominant hand and since your usually bigger than them, you can let them get a step and try to finish with their non dominant hand, otherwise you will have a high chance of blocking their shot
Jay Kay82 I actually am 6 feet tall and I play with guys around 5'6 - 5'10 and that's honestly the best way to guard someone that loves to drive. Put your body on their dominant side and make them drive with their non-dominant side. If they beat you on the non-dominant side, chances are they'll have a harder time shooting the ball
I asked a friend of a friend of mine that question and he told me he only plays great defence if he's up against a superstar. He doesn't play like this against everyone. If he's up against scrubs he'll play defence on the bench!
When anybody says KD would destroy the 90s bulls teams if warriors and bulls matched point them to this video the bulls had 4 tony Allen’s except they were bigger KD would have issue vs that bulls team and this is good evidence
if you simply don't let kd get to his spots, or fight through his spamming pindown screens and ick and roll screens, he becomes easier to guard, or less scary to guard, he is not that good on the perimeter
As a Kawhi/ D Wade fan, I have always said Kobe feared me more than KD in terms of them guarding Kobe on the perimeter, from my respective perspective, with Kobe he takes you 1 on 1 face up, and tries to get to his spots, while with KD, he is kind of limited on that component, he usually needs lots of pindown screens, or pick and rolls in order to score very easily, he is skilled but not as skilled as someone like kobe or mj
Him and guys like Patrick Beverley are what make the game so fun to watch. Nowadays scrubs are scared to play defense or something. Let's play physical like the 90s!!!
Kwame God Yeah. Even Tony Allen said that although he was lowering Kevin Durant's shooting percentages in that series, KD was still averaging about 30 ppg (for the exact numbers, check basketball-reference website.).
The point was to make it harder. KD was gonna average 30+ regardless, Tony Allen just made him more inefficient. And Allen definitely got into his head. You could see that KD rushed a ton of shots. Shooters like KD and Curry all have the same weakness, being played really physically. Sure, they'll get the foul calls and go to the line, but that physicality wears them down in the long run.
Tony Allen was a great defender. But don’t discredit the whole grizzlies 2014 team. They were underrated defensively. They had mike Conley who was underrated pg defender, Courtney lee who was also an underrated 3 and D guard, Of course tony Allen, and Marc Gasol who was underrated defensive center who was making his way into his prime.
make more please, i always did like allen on grizzlies, fits perfectly with their system, as long as you find the right system in any sport you can play with your full potential.
Binuyaka Vanilla Nah.. the Grizz just choked. Zach Randolph punched Steven Adams in Game 6 and got himself suspended for Game 7. And still that Game 7 was pretty competitive. And even if they got past the Thunder, I don’t know if they would’ve made the finals. They were definitely better than the Clippers, but I don’t know if they could beat San Antonio. The Grizz never really had an answer for Kawhi Leonard.
@@jenneferlegaspi3589 Except the Grizz faced the Spurs in the WCF the season before and got swept. And the Spurs played even better in the 2014 season.
Imagine Celtics once had Tony Allen locking down the perimeter and KG the paint whew that’s not fair. Imagine if he had more inches like maybe 6’7 as to 6’4 boi we talking bout 24 hrs lock down
What's so special about Tony Allen is that there was nothing really special about Tony Allen. He's 6'4, quick enough but not a burner, above average leaper, but nothing exceptional physically--even undersized by most accounts at SG, and definitely at the 3. He just locked people up with tenacity, understanding of cut-off angles, and an unwillingness to take half a possession off. But he also had the discipline to get perfectly vertical on contests even before there was a verticality rule (like Bruce Bowen).
I love Tony Allen, but I think Tayshaun Prince was the best Kobe defender (2004 Finals). EDIT: I've watched more tape on Kobe. Prince peaked during the 2004 Finals, also Kobe just refused to drive the lane during the Finals. After 2004, Prince never really shut down Kobe again. And if Kobe says that Allen was the toughest defender he ever faced, I'm inclined to believe him.
Tony Allen is obviously a world class defender, but Scott Brooks' play calling is just abysmal. Half the time the first option is Durant running out to get the ball from Westbrook and iso outside the three point line with all five Memphis defenders staring at him. Worst coach in the league by far.
En cuanto digo eso de por defecto ya estará alguna diciendo que se quiere cargar a todos los hombres..se hacen las tontas pero para esas cosas se ponen al lado de medio tontas a las que les gustan
i dont understand how tony was able to shut down a 6'11 durant when hes only 6'3 (even tho hes done it when they've matched up in past yrs) . imo i still consider allen the best defender in the nba he made kd (the mvp) look like a bitch throughout this series.
Durant almost has a complete game but he needs to post up closer and not far out near the 3. I saw countless times where he could have sealed Allen deep in the paint. If he post up that close he could just face up and shoot over him or dribble for a double.
this video is completely irrelevant be it that the grizzlies have NEVER beaten the thunder in a playoff series when they are fully healthy. he can have all the defense he wants but he went home after game seven.
***** haha are you serious. your comment is so absolutely absurd that it does not even deserve a response, but I will enlighten you. either you are just playing dumb or you really are. Been to the conference finals 3 out of 4 years. Finals once. How many times this grizzlies team been to the finals? I will still be waiting for your answer after this playoffs. But oklahoma is chokelahoma haha you are hilarious. I could go on but I will save my typing for something more worthy.
yeah and who beat mavericks in playoffs if tony Allen shut kd down how kd make the buzzerbeater out of bounds tony Allen ain't even better than kawhi Leonard at defense
What are you talking bout I'm 14 and kawhi was not in this video kd a beast kawhi Leonard is the best defense player in the league guess what you will see me in the NBA ima be the mvp and win a ring becuz ima a beast i love basketball bruh I want quit playing or looking at it for nobody but god
+JAYLIN PETERSON I'm just saying that your comparison of Tony Allen to Kawhi is stupid since Kawhi won DPOY, if you named a bad defender like Harden in your original comment, then it would have made sense.
RockyWorldKenny Lmao idc that was hilarious Lebron chocked his ass off I’m just saying motherfuckers be Saying KD is unguardable and nobody from any era could guard him in Maury’s voice “Well that was a lie”
