THANKS for watching! Last week David also talked with Stargate writer and executive producer Joseph Mallozzi. Among many other topics, they discussed whether the writers ever planned to make the Stargate public. Watch here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-I3Jj8QZgj9Y.html
Apologies to whomever posted about an actor recently passing away (I hit the wrong button and deleted your comment). You might be remembering the great Carmen Argenziano, who played Jacob Carter on the show.
I hope all these interviews and canceling the stargate online site means something is in the works. Almost seems like they are all trying to build up interest in stargate.
Absolutely. My late wife adored both of them and we were both a little heartbroken when Don passed. He played General Hammond as a fabulous leader ... stern but loyal and compassionate to his people, personally brave and wise. Master Bra’Tac had such gravitas and confidence as played by Tony - you really believed that the venerable Jaffa could still kick ass with the young bucks but his experience and 'centredness' spread courage and steadied nerves whenever he took the field. And whenever he came on screen my wife would hail him with a welcoming "Bra'tac!", a bow of her head and double 'rock horns' :chuckles in fond memory:.
@@JonathanFlexx Thank you, Felix. Most kind of you to say :bows head:. Serious things below so if readers don't want real world tragedy injecting into a happy fan-thread about a great character, stop reading at this point. Losing your spouse to cancer so relatively young (she was just turned 42) does rather shatter you as a person but, as with anything hard, you have only two choices, give up or get up. As a somewhat cautious hint of hope for anyone going through something similar, it took me five or six years of fulfilling my death-bed promise to my wife that I would not 'give up' but I have finally started to 'get up'. A great help in the first year was the bereaved spouse forums on the Macmillan Cancer Support site. Not to say that the pain is gone, but you get more used to bearing it. Watching Stargate always brings things back to the surface tho', as we used to watch it pretty much every day in some form or other - and seeing Don or Tony or Richard ever sparks the memories and emotions afresh. But Stargate is too wonderful to leave ...
He had some pearler that’s for sure... When the clan of female Jaffa is staying at the base when jack is the general was brilliant...when he is all smiles an calls him “o’neill of Minnesota” Jack calls him on his “sweet talking” And the wedding rehearsal going poorly, he lifts the chalice with the wine to drink it and mutters “I see now why one must rehearse these things”
I also love the gesture he'd make whenever referring to "Hammond of Texas" holding his hand just above his head to indicate his baldness. He was one of the best characters in a show full of great characters. Until his introduction the Jaffa were not fleshed out enough or easy to sympathize with. It was his first episode that really completed Teal'c as a likable believable character.
I liked that scene but the one scene that was better was when he was trying to convince O’Neill to let them have Ra’ac’s wedding in the SGC so he calls him O’Neill of Minnesota and O’Neill called him on his bs, lol
I rewatched the pilot of Psych the other day which had Don S. Davis in it and all I could think of was General Hammond yelling at Shaun and Gus for driving a golf ball into the gate.
O'Neill: Well we will just have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Bra'tac: No the bridge is to well guarded. That had me laughing so hard first time i saw the episode with Bra'tac and also Jack saying sorry for knocking the 130+ years old on his butt.
After having Patrick Stewart stomp on my heart, seeing Tony clearly still have so much love for the show, Bra'tac, and the fans was very much what I needed. Thank you.
I'm really glad they developed Bra'tac into a more of a regular character, I liked him the moment I saw him in the show, so glad toward the end they put him and Teal'c in alot of episodes together. I wouldn't mind seeing a direct to DVD, movie featuring the Jaffa point of view with Bratac
"I guess we will cross that bridge when we come to it" -O'niell: "I don't think that particular cliche works here" >.> yea Amendola really played this character well; his fighting ability with the staff was quite impressive on top of his acting chops, and he made the Jaffa struggle with ethics believable. One of my favorite moments with him is the episode where Tealc gets brainwashed by Apophis, and is faking being better. He manages to fool everyone at the SGC, but they bring in Bratac to make sure, and they make eye contact and he knows immediately... HE IS DECEIVING YOU!!
As a not native English person that idiom was the first one I ever knew of because I watched Stargate in English back in the day to better learn the language Helped me a lot and have already watched through the entire show (and Atlantis) in English 3 times over
he looks exactly like he did in the show lol.... Bra'tac is definitely one of my favorite guest characters and Tony Amendola did a really great job with him! His and Christopher judge's acting imo is really what brought the Jaffa to life and set the tone in the series for them. I feel like a lot of the time there is a disconnect in between the writers and actors as to what a certain sy-fi race should be like it.
I met Tony at a GateCon in Vancouver and I can attest that he is the most cheerful, gracious soul as was Don Davis who gave me 5 of the most genuine and intense hugs of my life. 2 truly wonderful human beings.❤️
It's amazing that he hasn't aged a day and is a very happy and congenial guy! I remember seeing him in "Dexter" as a bad guy and couldn't get it out of my head that Bra'tac went bad.😁 This is probably one of the best interviews I've ever seen when the interviewee stays on-topic and is genuinely interested in the interview. He reminded me of John Rhys-Davies' interviews on "The Lord of the Rings" movies and he spoke just as passionately with his experiences.👏 You hit a homerun with this one David, great job.😉👍
Bra'tac has some of the most hilarious quotes in the entire series. Some from season 1: O'Neill: Well, we'll just have to cross that bridge when we come to it. Bra'tac: No. The bridge is too well guarded. O'Neill: No, actually there, I was using a cliché that... O'Neill: All right, here's the plan. Bra'tac: You will do as I say. O'Neill: Right.
I actually wish we could have explored bra tac's storyline more than was done. Tony was great and the character was very interesting. Thank you gateworld and tony for the interview
Tony was great on Stargate SG1, great actor, he added so much to the continuity and action scenes. For an older guy he's in great shape!! I re-watch Stargate SG1 from the beginning to the end every few months, can't get enough of the show. I pray Brad Wright is able to sell the new Stargate to Amazon who just bought the floundering MGM, I think they'd be nuts not to go for it. Stargate has a mammoth fan base who are dying to see the show revived.
Tony you were such a joy for me to watch! I've grown up with the show, and you were one of my favorite characters. Thank you so much for your effort, its given me years of enjoyment!
Was on Stargate and on Continuum, where Tony played Kagame. He's in everything shot in Vancouver. One of the best local actors. A seasoned professional.
Tony played Master Bra’Tac so well. Bra’Tac was a stalwart character needed as part of the Stargate series. I've been in hospital for a few weeks. After a decade I have watched all of SG-1 again, picking up on episodes I never saw or remembered. I'm now up to Atlantis Season 3. Like Startrek, Stargate, and Firefly, I've been hooked since the late '60s. But I've never taken to any Starwars movie (boring)
I had the absolute privilege of working with Tony, very briefly, some years back, doing photography in the "get your photo with the stars!" things at a scifi convention. I worked that convention for a number of years, and probably worked with a good three dozen (or more) stars, and Tony was one of the most -- if not the most -- memorable experiences I had there. He was kind, humble, enthusiastic, and genuinely cared about the people who had come to the convention to see him. We talked a good bit, and he talked about things like how he would gently squeeze the shoulder of the fans he was getting pictures with, to make the experience a bit more human and thus get people to relax, so they'd get better pictures as a result. Over my time working that convention, I learned that there's basically two kinds of stars I worked with: The stars that thought the fans were the privileged ones for being allowed to be in their presence, and the stars that felt *they* were the privileged ones because there were even fans that wanted to come see them. Tony is literally the embodiment of the latter of those groups. He is one of those people that I will always think back to when I need to be reminded that there are good people (and Jaffa) still in the world, and I'm grateful for that.
I looked up Tony's filmography on IMDB to see what movie he'd be working on before getting cast on Stargate SG-1, and I have to say, Tony must be one of the hardest working actors on television.
Tony Amendola is always delightful on-screen (or audio track when he does VO). Bra'tac was by far my favorite recurring character on SG-1. Tony Amendola is to SG-1 the way Andy Robinson was with DS9... at least to me.
I loved Bra'tac. He was kind of like Teal'c's Obi Wan Kenobi or Master Yoda. And I'm so glad he survived through the end of the series and they didn't kill him off.
Actually I was thinking that he looks the same or better than when he did the show. Everyone else is showing their age, well maybe except Amanda Tapping still looks terrific. LOVED STARGATE SG1 .
Bra'tac wouldn't have been Bra'tac if it wasn't Tony Amendola. He ABSOLUTELY nailed it and every time I see him my heart goes warm and while he's in so many other things and I see him in pictures, the fondest is always Bra'tac. I want him to be my stand in grandpa.
Amaizing thanks! Could listen and watch these stories for hours and hours :) the best tv show franchise forever! Also Tony havent aged a day from the bratac days :)
I've been a fan since The Mask of Zorro. There was a scene at the beginning of the movie opposite Stuart Wilson where Tony asked, "Who are these men that you would risk your life to have them killed?" Stuart replied, "Who are they? No idea. Three peasants pulled at random from the crowd." The face that Tony made in response was the most iconic scene of the movie in which I'll never forget and it's a tribute to his acting ability.
Awesome! I know a lot of mad stargate fans, they are a bit older so don't really use youtube but I think if i tell them about this you will have a few more subs ;) Keep the good work up!
Master Bra'tac was one of my top favorite recurring characters. He was like the grandfather who could love, protect, and simultaneously kicked your butt into the dirt. His character was just pure gold. The first time I saw Bra'tac gesture to his head and say "Hammond of Texas," I cackled so hard.
The glue for the head tattoo was this stuff called "BetaBond", and it's basically just a slightly thicker, heavy duty version of the stuff used to attach fake fingernails. It's actually quite similar to a product now marketed as "DermaBond" these days, which is just a brand name of liquid suture used in medical settings in place of traditional thread type sutures or dermal staples. The BetaBond actually smells pretty similar, but it actually takes a bit longer to set up and requires the skin to be exceptionally clean/bare prior to application. Otherwise it gets kinda gummy and results in a prosthetic not staying in place; same thing will happen if it comes into contact with moisture - particularly sweat - prior to curing entirely. Also, in order to remove a prosthetic applied with the BB, a specific cleaning solution must be used as far as I know, which really makes it let go and rinse right off with warm water almost instantaneously. Otherwise the shit will hold for days. I actually still have a bottle of both the BetaBond and the removal agent that Mrs. Jan gave to me back in like 2002. If I add a few drops of water and high-percentage isopropyl alcohol or denatured alcohol (denatured works best) to the adhesive and shake it up a bit, in about 3 minutes it's back to near original consistency; within 5 minutes it's as good as the day I got it and it still works beautifully. I'm not even sure if that stuff is still manufactured or otherwise used in the special effects/prosthetic makeup industry anymore. It was great for me because I used to have incredibly sensitive skin, and the BetaBond was the only topical dermal adhesive I could use without completely breaking out or having a nasty reaction toward. For example, back in the day when I was younger I was astoundingly allergic to povidone iodine (brand name Betadine) of all things, a pretty standard topical antiseptic used across the globe in medical settings and operating rooms. I didn't have an anaphylactic reaction or anything, but that shit would literally cause a reaction akin to a 2nd degree chemical burn if left on my skin, which it usually is in most cases where it's used as topical skin disinfectant/surgical prep in the OR. It was utterly bizarre and left even a few allergists a bit stumped. So yeah, I needed to be careful and fortunately my head tat glue worked for other prosthetic applications with no issues whatsoever lol.
He is also the voice of Khadgar in the game World of Warcraft. "Knowledge is power." Every time I hear that in game I'm all, Master Bra'tac, what are you doing here. lol.
One of my favorites! I liked them all but definitely one of the ones I enjoyed seeing in episodes more than others. I don't even think he has aged at all since his last appearance on Stargate lol. I'll have to see what else he's been in lately.
It's weird to see Him so relaxed and enjoyable...he was always tense in series xD Same with Real actor when U see him when he's not playing it's weird ....you expect seriousness and calmness but he's so fun :)
