I completely understand what Tony Jr. says about Theresa going back to the races, especially Daytona. I live 50 minutes away and have been there countless times, but for 20 years I have had mixed feelings that I never had before. I was in attendance in February 2001, stunned at what I saw and heard over the radio scanner. I was there in July of that year, with tears welling in my eyes as the 8 and the 15 sat in the trioval after the race. My God, what could have been........................

I started watching Nascar in the '80s and was a huge Earnhardt fan. My first and last race was the Brickyard in '95. My seats were right across from Dale Sr. pit box. Having him win the race made it even more special. Once Sr. passed I just moved over to Dale Jr. I watched him race and it gave me that need for racing. When Jr. finally stepped away I lost interest in watching Nascar. For me it just wasn't the same. I think Dale Jr. turned out to be one class act. Thank you and your family for what you did for me to be able to enjoy racing. I truly miss it.

Go to your local short tracks. If you're in the indy area check out CRA Super series. If you got time to get there they are at Winchester today. The racing starts at 6. At the time of Sr's passing, he was the last active sports idol I had from my childhood, and it was particularly difficult for me. So many layers to a family dynamic that I don't think it was over looked. I think at the time Dale Sr. didn't think they had the maturity to handle it. Notice when Junior stopped using his Earnhardt last name in his licensed autograph images was years after Senior passed…and guess what? Every single fan would and will tell you that we knew Earnhardt Enterprises would never survive without Dale Jr. and it didn’t. It is so extremely sad that Jr., Kelly, Taylor and Kerry didn’t have a fair chance to bond together and keep Dale’s legacy on the track. Teresa could have been the brains behind it if greed hadn’t set in her being. My husband and I would go to at least 5 to 8 races per season including ARCA races. When Earnhardt was killed, we put it all on Jr.! We were their at Daytona when Dale was killed and when Jr. won after Dale was put to rest. I did not see one person, man, woman and older children with dry eyes or not holding the number 3 in some way or fashion. I don’t think my heart has ever been the same since. It really put a dent in it. Oh the stories I could tell about with them off the track! I still love Jr. as if we were kin. That’s just how racing was. After Gordon retired, then Jr., we have lost our love for racing. Rock and Roll had a phenomenon which was Elvis Presley. NASCAR had a phenomenon, that was Dale Earnhardt!!

I agree with 95% of your comment. Well said! But, it was DEI, or Dale Earnhardt Incorporated, not Earnhardt Enterprises. Also, (and I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm trying to be open to both sides of stories) I wonder who was comforting Theresa after his death? The fan's had each other, the team's also had each other... T had a pre-teen daughter, that's basically it. Her parents had passed, I don't believe she had siblings, the only thing she had was just killed. Don't get me wrong, could she have handled Jr's decisions differently... She really didn't need to treat Kerry like she did. That was, in my opinion, going too far! Could she have asked for help, but she probably felt alone, and from experience, the last thing someone who feels alone is going to do is ask for help.... Yet alone a southern woman, who runs a million dollar business.... Just my opinion, and I hope she has found peace somewhere

As an insider, I really can't help but shed a tear here listening to the pain, anguish, and hard decisions that had to be made AFTER the end of the #3 cars driver. I can't even say it. Peace to all. Hopefully time soothes out all bumps.

16:43 That's how I felt about Teresa at first, the first few years after Dale's death. Of course my feelings changed throughout the years.

I think that reflects a lot of the fans quite frankly. Yes, Teresa became a widow and lost her rock through it all. At the same time, she then became vindicative and sought to destroy anyone who wanted to use her dead husband's name, included Dale's own offspring.

Having watched DEI grow to become a strong power house built around, by, and with family it was amazing to see it happen over the years. It truly was a dynasty in the making. Then to watch it fall apart in so many ways breaks my heart. Now after all of these years to see and hear about the mending of relationships brings the pieces back together. I still am grateful for the people who worked so hard to build the Earnhardt legacy, to go beyond the DEI dynasty, it is so encouraging and uplifting. You all are a pleasure to watch in the facets of your lives and the racing family that you are once more building, fostering and nurturing is a magnificent work of love to behold. I tip my hat to you all for not letting bad times and rough words define your careers and lives. I applaud you for the direction that I see you are going and the work that you are continuing. You've picked up your lessons and are writing new chapters in your life. Bless you all. God bless you all

I remember being in Jr’s teamspeak the day Theresa said that he needed to figure out if he wanted to be a rock star or a race car driver. Another young and successful Cup driver entered the chat and when he learned what she had said, I can’t describe the mood. It was a feeling that everything was about to blow up with DEI. I don’t think Jr had even heard the news just yet. Was very somber and sad with so much uncertainty about how it was all about to play out.
