Yep, same. I still might not find Andor to be the most captivating character in his own show, but his journey has shown me some very compelling characters and really interesting glimpses into the _Star Wars_ universe, haha.
Same here, after the khm...well after Obi-Wan I've arrived with 0 expectations and this show knocked me off my chair. I've watched Narcos and Rouge One so I know Diego is a great actor so no surprises there but then they started showing world class actors alongside him playing characters written so well I was blown away. Such layered and nuanced writing given to actors who can really work the material the way it was supposed to...I cant tell how much it surprised me. In my opinion this show is right up there with the best of the SW and thats a really high praise from me.
"It's your passion and insane loyalty that gave Disney the guts to gamble on something like this. If we don't have you, we can't play this hard." --Tony Gilroy
Andor is the best Star Wars production Disney has done. It may become the best Star Wars production of all time. Let's see! I get that Star Wars is for kids as well, so I hope they focus animated Star Wars stuff more toward kids, then make more adult live action tv series and movies...like Andor. High hopes for Ahsoka. Let's hope Ahsoka doesn't go woke. Even Mandolorian is more for kids, etc. And, that is fine. But, c'mon let's see some real adult content, some R rated stuff.
"You don't write to break people's hearts. You write from the heart, and that breaks people's hearts." And then he goes and speaks from his heart to his Latin American fans, and I cry joyous tears. What amazing humans we have behind this incredible show.
@@roccosiffredi6900 lmao. Jerk. Only read the headlines bud? Didn't read about the viewers growing episode by episode until it was huge? No just read the tabloid rubbish
Andor, the cast, writers, directors and producers have to win every award that's around. It is amazingly well done. And the music! A jewel in the SW universe. Looking forward for S2.
@@TheRumblewagon I think he means live action, and the siege of Mandalore is a part of one of the worst clone wars seasons (Rafa and Trace). Should've a better build up to the finale, Andor is just good all around.
@@TheRumblewagon Siege of Mandalore is just four episodes and still a part of the worst clone wars season to DATE. That is inenviable, which sucks cuz those last four episodes are great. The season overall was wasted potential, Andor has been consistent with its writing from the first to last episodes thus making its overall writing far superior as a season versus the clone wars season 7.
@@koolerman4443 Look, all we got from lord123j's comment that pertains here is "best piece." There's no reason (yet) to disqualify animation nor a reason to judge alternates only by the season if it's from a series. Why dismiss a four-episode story arc for arbitrary reasons, when you can still hold your opinion and enjoy an argument based on each example's own merits? If you go ahead and say why _Andor's_ writing was better than those four _Clone Wars_ episodes unified by a story arc/event, that sounds interesting. Might even be a better comparison if you pick one of _Andor's_ three-episode arcs instead, but arguing that a "best piece of Star Wars writing" _has_ to be by the season's worth when it comes to shows is not as interesting, in my opinion.
I’d say even better to the point that it makes me wish it came out before. Imagine the way we’d have felt not knowing Andor’s fate at the end and then seeing him on that beach with Jyn. I would have been WEEPING
Now that Disney discovered Andor went from the most unnecessary to one of the best Star Wars materials recently produced, they might focus more on this show's "political correctness", if you know what I mean. I will truly miss Sergeant Mosk's Earth swears in Star Wars, too.
@@meklavier4664 Serious. Natural sets that don't feel claustrophobic like Obi Wan or Boba, side characters have a role to play and each of them is important to the narrative, it fleshes out the 19 year gap better than anything before it, and it has the best star wars politics since the Darth Plagueis book. No "adventure of the week" vibes, no gratuitous cameos, and the effects are actually good. If you have the time do yourself a favor, trust.
Andor is the future of Star Wars people. That show is class, best thing to happen to Star Wars in ages. Gilroy doesn’t talk like he knows Star Wars: he talks like he knows how to make it.
Andor the show was logical, emotional, powerful, and fantastic. It's a writing masterclass set in the Star Wars universe. Season two is going to be intense based on the hints we've gotten. Just hearing Tony speak about canon and events make me extremely excited for season two.
Same. Im thinking the gorman massacre and mon leaving the senate and formally instating the Alliance as an absolutely critical piece of the story that builds on characters we are already following. I cant unfortunately think of many others that would fit, except maybe establishing the base on Yavin and bringing all the cells together. ANH alluded to Scarif as the first major victory so I cant think of how many events were critically important to the story of the Alliance. But I trust we are gonna get S grade drama especially since Gilroy is gonna take Saw from S1 Andor to Rogue1 level of paranoia.
Especially since he himself said he wasnt really into star wars. I do think he is genuine when he says the fans are the ones that gave disney the spine to gamble on this project. And im glad they did.
Tony Gilroy out here telling everyone some of the best Star Wars dialogue ever written (those monologues) was easy peasy for him ... but cereal boy and his mom was hard. Hehe!
The amazing thing about Andor is its rewatchability. I've rewatched it probably 3x and picked up on stuff in the dialogue i missed the first time around, mulled longer on things knowing the trajectory the show goes in.
At first, I was reluctant to watch another series that fills in backstory, even though everyone was talking about how good it was. I already know what happens to that character, so I didn't bother. Finally caved in and watched. It. was. fantastic. The dialogue was so well written--jaw-dropping at times--the acting was amazing, the sets, the story, the music, all of it. THANK YOU to everyone who worked on this.
Saw Guerrera continuously riding the brink of madness was palpable in the first season. Incredible writing and delivery by those involved. So floored at the quality of this show compared to its peer group.
Too bad they don’t put this same dedication or passion into the Kenobi show, it’s just sad because the Andor show was truly astonishing. It’s hard to believe they can top this show. Diego and the rest of the crew were phenomenal !!!
I know everyone agree that Keanu Reeves is our lord and savior, however, can we all agree that Diego Luna is his little brother? Impossible to hate that man, when he busted out the Spanish you can see the love on his face. Man, he is soo good. ❤
I also have to say, I was never a star wars fan, my younger brother however is a Diehard fan and he told me, you gotta see Andor, see Andor man, have you seen Andor yet? Just to shut him up I sat down to watch the first episode, ten~eleven hours later I had gone to the toilet, grabbed some snacks and drinks and sat down to see Rogue One! That's a testament to the quality of this show. So far this year its my favorite show!
The work of Tony Gilroy on Andor season 1 have been absolutely amazing - everything was perfect. I'm really looking forward to season 2. Andor just hit different than the other Star Wars shows.
Andor operates on a completely different level than any other Star Wars project. PLEASE keep this crew and tone moving forward. Exquisite storytelling.
From this interview you can feel the authenticity and legitimacy of these men's natural talent. You can feel Gilroy really takes it seriously and puts out the best he can for the final product, and that he actually pays attention for things to make sense in the story instead of just throwing notorious moments there for the sake of fan service. They feel earned and they are a consequence of good storytelling. Edit: also I'm Brazilian and I don't speak one bit of Spanish though I can understand it thoroughly and my heart warmed up when Diego sent his greetings to Latin America at the end. I usually don't feel represented by this kind of thing but I thought that was very nice.
It was inevitable that the fandom for Andor would build up despite the not so shiny release. It's a masterpiece. Gilroy and all involved deserve all the recognition. Superb acting, cinematography, writing, the whole deal. Maybe some will bash me for it, but imo its the best written piece of live-action SW ever, as much as I love the original trilogy. I've lost count of how many times i've rewatched dialogues and monologues from Andor. More than anything (when it comes to writing/dialogue) from other SW related shows/movies combined.
As weird as it feels to place the writing quality of a star wars project beside The Wire since it's some of the best writing of any medium I've experienced, Andor is so good that I have no other tv show to compare it to except The Wire. I have to start talking about books and mediums other than film to find its peers. The amount of world texture and the palpable emotional reality is just wonderful. It feels like a novel.
Andor will be talked about for years and years. It will keep building a following these next year and a half. Boba Fett and Kenobi will be forgotten in a few months.
This series raised the bar for the franchise. You might have to rely on cameos and sher spectacle to attract audiences, but to truly engage and connect with them the story have to show the human (or alien if it's the case) aspect of the conflicts within the characters. That's the heart of the story, not the blasters and lightsabers.
Seeing Latin American fans rejoice makes my heart warm. Culture is such an important thing, I'm happy for you guys. I'm hoping my own culture makes it big and is appreciated like this one day.
I’m excited for S2 and at the same time saddened by the fact that we won’t be getting 4 more seasons as originally planned. Give us more of this superbness whether in this series or another ❤
When I first saw first two episodes I was skeptical that they could do such a good job. But it just kept getting better and better. It’s genuinely incredible tv. Should be in top 50 tv of all time list.
I'm not actually certain you Star Wars people are aware that Andor is superior in almost every level to all other Star Wars shows. You should absolutely acknowledge it.
Glad Tony Gilroy’s getting the writing love he deserves. Michael Clayton is outstandingly written and his character focus he brought to Andor is a pure example of why his approach to respecting the intelligence, emotion and moral complexity of the characters drives the events of the plot and the stakes naturally. Not to mention his ability to craft memorable, linguistically fluid monologues is second to none. Can’t wait for season 2 :)
Andor is Empire Strikes back in terms of great Star Wars writing! My ONLY complaint is that the Obi Wan series wasn't written and shot the same way! It would have been 1000 times better if it had even half of what Andor had.
Dave Filoni and Favreau are cool and all but Tony Gilroy is THE guy who should be given a new SW trilogy. Andor is WAAAAY better than anything else in disney-star wars
Andor is the most meaningful Star Wars thing I have seen in ages and I didn't know wanted it until it was bouncing around my eyeballs. The Empire was a cartoony evil, a bunch of bumbling sycophants jockeying for position. They way Gilroy and his cast and crew were able to realize it was jaw-dropping. Stoked for season 2. I doubt Tony has ever seen the direct effect of his work like this. He looks genuinely bemused by the number of people and the attention. He is an amazing filmmaker and I feel lucky that he is working on Star Wars again. Michael Clayton is one of my favorite films, and no slight to Gareth Edwards because I love Rogue One, but after Andor Ssn1 I fantasize about what Tony would have done with it.
andor being this good is purely a product of putting it into the hands of good creators who actually care about stories, the politics and themes behind them, and take them seriously. Like what other piece of star wars media has a heist inspired by young stalin? I can only hope that the second season continues on the same path
I was skeptical about Season 1, once I saw the trailer I was like this show is going to surprise people. I cannot wait to see season 2, Andor is one of my favorite SW content out there.
An Andor confused me but as soon as I read the synopsis, I was won over. A lot of people still seem to be hung up about the show being about a “nobody” from a spin-off movie, but I knew from the beginning that it would be more than that. Even I was surprised at how massive this show would end up being.
Season 1 was WOW ! It was beyond any expectations I had ! Watched the last episode so so many times !!! What a great show ! Diego is an amazing actor and person ! Love him ❤
This is what storytelling is all about. I loved this series it was utterly captivating and wasn’t going for cliches and tropes, the cast and the writing. Pure luxury. I’m so happy to see them humbled by this. It’s a lot of hard work ❤
Andor is absolutely fantastic. I would love to know what influenced Tony to make a Star Wars film and when Diego was first approached about having his own spin off
Andor should be the textbook blueprint for how Star Wars shows should be scripted ❤ Other then the first 2 seasons of the Mandalorian there’s nothing you can compare, the quality was great, refreshing :)
