Tony: If you ever need a break from the B-3, you could easily be a hypnotist with your voice. Great video, I picked up a lot of tips to use on my C-3, and I thank you. Be well!

Tony swings more by himself than most bands! Just amazing as always- the registrations and notes can be taught but the feel is the toughest to master. Tony, keep being the great ambassador of the B-3, in whatever brand it may reside.

As a long time bass player of 30 plus years, I am going back to the keys, with emphasis on organ. My dad was Shindig from the 60's. Not sure if anyone here knows him but I followed in his footsteps on bass until his death a few years back and the music seems to have changed. A hired gun on bass seems to be adequate these days for me but there is no good jazz anymore and certainly no keys!! That generation seems to be passing...You sir have given me a lot to chew on! Great presentation!

Tony, great demo! I own an A-100 (1960) and a 122 Leslie I just had it serviced and it sounds incredible. So quiet you wouldn't even know it was on if you didn't look for the light by the power switch. You are a good teacher judging by the demo here!

I Never get tired of hearing a Hammond!!! Love the A100’s too! I had 2 B3’s, one was an awesome, screaming 1955!! But my late 60’s B3 just didn’t have the same bite or vibe. Must have been the coil adjustment differences, or maybe the generator caps, something. From the back they appeared the same, motor, scanner, etc. (Had an RT-3 for a while)

Holy Moses' Sandals. NOW I understand, even after playing Hammonds for 50 years. I play A LOT of pedals, chording left hand. Will be learning more COMP on Lower keyboard, now that I get the drawbar setting for that. I'm actually a drummer SO The Organ is for my "own amazement"!! I'm also a Church Organist where I don't have a Hammond. Too bad.

Tony, I could listen to you all day no matter what you were talking about. So much kindness in your voice. I just bought an A100 and a Leslie 122 so my friend would join my band and be the Hammond organist. We are still looking for the right sound. It is there everyday, but everyday it ends up sounding different. I'm a guitar player that loves the Hammond sound and can play a little. Thanks for the great video.

I am just about to listen to your video. Before I got started , I wanted to tell you that starting way back in the late 60s, I was in a few bands. I played a fender Rhodes and a Farfisa. Then, one day I went to a studio in Manhattan and they were equipped with aHammond B3. It blew my mind! The only ‘thing’ was that I was always and constantly playing with the stops , trying to get that perfect sound. I did not have anyone to tell me and NOW ! FINALLY ! I am about to hear your secrets to the stops (settings). Thanking you in Advance: Robert

I am picking up a free A-102 this morning that I found on craigslist. I've played guitar for the last 15 years and have gotten into the keys over the last few months. I wish I had years ago. Been using a split midi keyboard setup with my computer and Reason software. Despite all the great synth sounds I have been able to produce, I've found my deepest love is for the B3 samples I have, but they just aren't the same as the real deal. This video is going to be very helpful. Thanks Tony.

Thanks so much Tony! This is a *REAL* in-depth study of all the great sounds you can get out of a 'real' Hammond. Even today, the sound is so unique that's it's tough for any digital keyboard to accurately reproduce.. mainly because it was originally an electro-mechanical device, and everything affects everything else, which affects the resultant sound coming out of the speakers! Hammond's XKB does a pretty passable job, but there are still elements that it will never capture, like differences in the tone wheels, capacitors, tubes, etc. that make it to where no two tone-wheel organs sound exactly the same. The 'keypop', the vibrato scanner, the location of coils in relation to the tone wheels all have an effect. Just like no 2 pipe organs sound the same, and even the same pipe organ will sound different according to the weather! Digital electronics have advanced to an incredible level and they get really close, but with devices like this.. *NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL!!* Great video, thank you!!😁👍🎵🎶

Thank's Tony for this clear explanation, I couldn't explain it better. Through years, I found out all the things you told in this video by myself, but then with Jimmy Smith as 'teacher on record' (must be the same for you), its nice to be confirmed, after all those years and struggles, with this cool explanation.

Great to see some organ videos aimed at the viewer who already has piano chops and just wants to learn some organ technique. It's hard to find videos like this. It's agony for me to watch a video where the guy is saying "OK.....Now put your pinky on A, and with your right hand, play G with your thumb, then C sharp with your middle finger.....and finally, F with your right pinky here." when all I need is ten seconds of hearing it played correctly at tempo. I am really finding your B3 videos useful.

Have fun with your A102. It's funny, I'd been playing guitar for 20 years and got a Hammond A102 as my first organ. There are many things you can do to improve your sound. One of the simplest is turning up the little screw for the gain, on the square aluminum box. A Leslie 122 is desired, but you can get by nicely with a simple used 'in organ' Leslie unit. Attach it in place of reverb spkr. Now have L112 & Hammond X-66. Organ is part theory and part imagination. Tony's got both:) Go Columbus!

Learning how to play after not having touched a keyboard for 2 decades. I have komplete 8 in my project studios to be and are picking up a Kimbal organ on Wednesday. I do have to fix two black (foot) pedals on it and will see if I can install a MIDI interface in it. A Hammond is definitely on my list, but first I need to buy, or build a lesie speaker for my Kimbal.. :D
