Triple Eight is at the centre of most big Supercars stories but, between Gen3 and SVG, the spotlight was even greater in 2023. Tony Quinn covers it all in his own colourful style, including why Triple Eight is now more than just a car racing team in this episode of the KTM Summer Grill.

As he said hes a real people person very natural i was wandering around highlands when it opened and he turned as i was about to walk past and he said hi and then chatted for 5 minutes at least, all relaxed and i am just a spectator it was like sitting down in the pub and someone was there and he just stuck up a conversation not about himself or his cars or tracks. nice guy

That was brilliant. TQ is a legend and uses his incredible business acumen to make successful tracks. Supercars could do well to take his comments on board. Another great episode by Rusty.

Removal of the Incar Roll Bar Adjustment and Rapid Brake bias adjustment was the WORST decision Supercars could of made, That was what made Supercars special and set itself apart from the rest, It enabled the best drivers to rise to the top not just the best engineers.. Also we want to see more rounds more race weekend we dont care about international events we just want more more more

I agree but supercars teams favored cost over entertainment

There are few more passionate motor racing people in Australiasian racing. I have loved watching him race but I think his real value is in getting people to understand how to keep the racing current. I haven't watched any V8 racing this year since the F1. The product is very stale. I think Tony will shake it up. I grew up loving the sport but Supercars isn't working.

If Tony had been racing in the 1970s he may have become a member of what's known as the "Lola Limpers" club in the F5000 series. The open-wheeler series ran a Lola chassis with a five-litre Chev. Still, a badly designed footwell area resulted in most drivers who decided to attack the concrete wall or the scenery, joining the Lola Limpers club. Most of the famous drivers joined the club at one time or another, including Kevin Bartlet and a lot of the top names at the time. Mr Quinn, himself has become a legend in the sport. Thanks for a great presentation.

When TQ spoke about how fragile the new/current porsches are and the price gap between a new shell and the scrap value; it got me thinking. Why dont porsche offer to buy back damaged but repairable shells back from race teams for 50/60/70k ship the shell back to germany and repair it and then sell the car again as a used/repaired car to another race team for a discounted price. At least then the teams can then buy their next car with a smaller outlay. Then porsche could potentially make money off the repaired car?

You could probably facilitate a service like that on the ground here - There are local Porsche endorsed/official repairers with motorsports expertise/experiece, such as Ron Goodman's operation. You could, at a lesser cost, have a Porsche endorsed repaired shell offering. Potentially a good idea, depending on the cost/effort in the actual repair work.

what i dont understand about modern V8 Supercars is some idiots are charging $250grand to build a supercar engine , that only has 650 hph yet i can take my 6.2 litre LS to teckno performance do some upgrades bolt on a supercharger spend around $40grand and make 1000+ rwhp go back to a H pattern 6 speed so we have real drivers not the princesses we have now , and a lot cheaper to run we been using the same boring 5.0 litre engines since the class started , and if your worried about fuel shorten the races a lot better to have fast entertaining short races than boring long races

I am a motor racing fan. Supercars blah. I will go to Taupo but I am not expecting much based on past events. I am going to Melbourne and Japan for F1 this year, Singapore last year. That is excitement because of the car performance differential, the driver ability and the race format. Supercars lost everything with the gen cars, the franchise model and the self congratulating attitude of all involved trying to make out it is something which it is not. The corporate control of any criticism of the cars and series by drivers is sickening. It exists because that is all we have got.
