When John Jacob Astor's crushed,soot-covered body was recovered from the waters, his pockets contained his pocket watch (time frozen at 2:20) and over $2,000 cash.So this mantle clock registers the same time as his watch.
It's amazing that the clock remained on the mantle considering how hard the wreck hit the bottom. I imagine the remaining woodwork would just disintegrate in your hands
I have loved the real Titanic all my life and have loads of books and really appreciate the spirit of it. There has been a lot recovered from the wreck site and yet I have seen none of it and would I feel anything if I did see it? I doubt it. Yet look at what Jim managed to do by making his film. Global uplifting in interest and fascination of the real ship herself. I would thank Jim as much as Titanic has thanked him herself.
I was just about to say here how on earth is the clock still on that fireplace un till 55 secs in n James answers my question it was bolted on, alway wondered that
This video includes one of the most remarkable archaeological discoveries of the modern age. It's truly unbelievable to see such a relic surface from the murky depths after so many years lost to the ravages of time.
I've been a Titanic fanatic since Ballard discovered the wreck in '85, and not because of the James Cameron film! I've remained interested ever since the discovery and I had strong reservations related to taking items from the debris field and certainly not from the ships interior. Older, I still agree with that logic on whether or not they should remove artifacts from the site. I mean, it is a grave site overall, but now knowing the ship will one day be a rust stain on the ocean floor, I've weighted other options and beginning to think, it might not be such a bad idea.
If everyone would think like that there would be no need to build museums because they would be empty. There would be no need to hire archaeologist's because they would not be allowed to retrive our lost history.Without our history we can not know who we are nor what some day we hope to become. Some don't want to digg up our past out of fear but our history is oss,it is apart of oss. If we do not serach for it it will be forgotten and lost and our lives will have no past,no future and no meaning.
Had they been able to get both ROV’s in the Strauss suite at the same time they might have been able to see the hands had one bot shined its light directly at the glass from the side . While the other viewed from head on
Yeah I'd have a big notebook like that to ask Cameron questions as well! LOL imagine being stuck in a submersible with him for 12 hours. The endless possibilities of questions. Id learn the whole life story of the guy. 😂
OMG the adverts. They are literally full of the indigenous population of Britain. When you look at advertising now they have mainly box tickers in them. It’s nice to watch programs and know we used to not be gaslight about the ethnic make up of the country.
