Tony Romo’s infamous mistake in Seattle needs a deep rewind

You know what's about to happen. The Dallas Cowboys are in Seattle and looking to take a lead over the Seahawks that could give them their first playoff win in ten years. They've had another year full of dysfunction, but finally look like they will shake out of the funk they've carried for the last decade.
You know the disaster that follows, the career that had its wings clipped before it learned to fly, and the first step of a new journey that never seemed to stay on the path.
But what about what came before that? So much had to fall perfectly so in order to make this moment what it is, and how it remains in our mind. The pain and heartbreak of an entire franchise, the fans forever divided over the quarterback, the lack of playoff success. It masked what led us to this moment. We forgot everything that raised hope so high and made the landing after the fall so much harder. Welcome to a moment in history.

@TheLocalLt

Waifu Wars Racing nope actually Bledsoe came back before the season was over but Brady was just better than him by that point. And by “better” I mean he wasn’t a turnover machine like Drew. Bledsoe was washed up, he was even worse in Buffalo and Dallas. Also Brady was a Belichick Draft pick whom he could coach up, whereas Bledsoe (and all his bad habits in the pocket) was inherited. If Bledsoe doesn’t get injured he would have still lost his job once they got to about 1-5 on the 01 season. Belichick was definitely not trying to go down with Bledsoe and get fired

I watched this game. That Terry Glenn fumble into the endzone was a pivotal moment. Yes Romo fumbled the snap but that safety really hurt my Cowboys.
@lonniecraig5186
@lonniecraig5186 5 лет назад
In my opinion, it's a shame that the real turning points of a game (like Glenn's fumble for a safety) are almost always ignored while someone else ends up the fool. I'm not saying Romo doesn't deserve his share of responsibility, but Glenn was just as responsible. The problem I see is that the vast majority don't look at the middle of the game/season/whatever, they look at the end. As a Bears' fan, I see the same thing with Cody Parkey. Now, he SHOULD have made that field goal; no one will debate that, I believe. So he deserves HIS share of the blame. But if Adrian Amos, their safety, doesn't do an illegal tackle on the Philadelphia WR around 10:00 left in the third quarter of the Wild Card game, the Bears stop the Eagles on downs (well, it would have been 4th down, but you get my point. LOL) Instead, it gave the Eagles a new set of downs which led them to scoring a TD. And on that TD play, very few remember that the Bears only had 10 defensive players on the field! Something told me that when the illegal hit happened, the Bears were in trouble... Yet it is rare to see anyone point either of these out; they point to Parkey.
@AlexSmith-tz2lf

@@lonniecraig5186 That is a very good point. I saw the same critique of Kirk Cousins in one game during their struggles early in last season where he got blamed for a loss where I identified 8 points lost by teammates. Not only the Glenn fumble that gave Seattle 2 points because no Cowboy fell on it so we could likely punt 3) Cowboy defense Not holding them to force a punt? Or maybe give up a FG? Noooo. They gave up a TD 4) Seattle just signed Pete Hunter off the street to play DB and Parcels still played and called e Uber conservative game plan 5) The K Ball rule change After this game...that allowed home teams to handle the 🏈. Rono dropped a new, super slick sprayed ball just inserted into the game 6) After The dropped snap? Everyone in the building Knew Seattle would run it, Dallas couldn't stop them knowing they were going to run it down inside their own 10...didn't stop em. Even if Romo didn't drop it? I've seen a couple of 'Rewinds' and have enjoyed them. However....I really think you're on to something. As a student of history I've learned to study particular events in context. It's how I remember, and more importantly understand, a specific incident and how the 'then' impacts the 'now.'. As opposed to memorizing dates and names, which is how history in generally taught in the classroom. What you've got here is a perfect model for instructing average students, in mass, in such a way the learning has meaning, and sticks. It isn't a long 1:45:00 documentary, it isn't a boring long read, it's targeted, enjoyable, memorable, and it makes sense. Good on you. Love to see this type of teaching in the classrooms.

Ummm Romo was undrafted. What hype did he come into? The team wasn’t that great when he came in and the team was finally building something good but his health failed him. 2005 White Sox World Series! Broke the streak, went only lost 1 in the postseason 🤷🏻‍♂️
@lonniecraig5186
@lonniecraig5186 5 лет назад
As a White Sox fan, I concur. Two moments in that stretch would make great Rewind topics. The first is the most obvious- the dropped third strike that A.J. ran to first base on, which changed the whole complexion of that series. The second is less obvious but I think just as big- remember in Game 2 at the Cell when the Astros were leading the White Sox 4-2 in the bottom of the 7th inning, and the White Sox got men on 2nd and 3rd with two outs and Jermaine Dye batting? On a 3-2 count, the pitch came inside and, at first look, hit Dye on the arm, which gave Dye first base. The replays show, however, that the ball clearly hit Dye's bat and it should not have been a hit batter, but instead a foul ball with Dye still at the plate. Instead, the umpire gave Dye first base, and the next batter, Konerko, hit it out of the park for a grand slam to give Chicago a 6-4 lead (of course, they go on to win that game 7-6 and take a 2-0 lead in the Series). To me, that was the turning point of the 2005 World Series. I wager the Astros win that game if that doesn't happen, and who knows how that changes the tide of the series. Both of those moments were massive, and with some work I wager they could be made into some pretty interesting Rewind videos.

Your One Black Friend Who Gave you the N Word Pass he was actually overrated. He had one of the best Olines to ever exist. You could drive a Mack truck the holes they’d create. It was actually frustrating a lot of times because he was so indecisive as a runner and his oline was so good that if he’d just did his assignment and hit the gap he would’ve gain a lot more. But a lot of times the gap would close. That why he was pretty mediocre between the tackles. He was best a stretching runs to the outside and making a cut.

As a Seahawks fan, this video was awesome to watch. Apart from SB XL which should be forgotten, this is probably the most memorable play I can remember for Seattle before the Russell Wilson era. I remember watching it live and freaking out, but as I've become a much more invested/passionate/knowledgeable fan of the game since the mid 2000's, I didn't appreciate the immense odds Seattle faced leading up to this moment. That's a chip shot and the only thing that could have gone wrong was the snap or hold. Also, Romo almost got in for the TD if not for Babineaux. This is, at least for Seahawks fans, a monumental moment in history for the franchise. Thanks for shining some light on it.
