Tony Sibson was tough as nails. He took Hagler's best shots and fought with great tenacity and courage. Gave Minter a spanking. Tony was a first class boxer, shame Hagler was around to dominate the era so much. He seems like a real gentleman and very down to earth. Top bloke- *RESPECT.*

@@michaelgregson7808 Hagler beat Leonard and sadly boxing lost a lot of great fights that Hagler could have had left, but he was robbed and knew that they just gave it to the pretty boy who used pitty pat flurries during the last 10 seconds of the round and the short-sided idiotic judges handed him the fight. Robbery...plain and simple. It destroyed Marvin as far as boxing was concerned. Hearns was robbed in his last fight with Ray as well. Guys like Ray and Oscar were pretty boys who both benefitted greatly from biased judges. I'm not saying those guys were not great fighters, both were great, but Hagler was something else altogether.

Sibbo is a Legend, undoubtedly, such a humble fella, and massively underrated by casuals but not by his Peers, which is all that matters. I reckon he would have been a Great SMW back in his Day but this Weight wasn't recognised back then and was only looked on as a catchment Weight between the MW and LHW Guys, and had very little significance then either.

100% on side with your sentiment- very well said. Tony Sibson deserves far more recognition for his talent and the performance he put up against Marvin Hagler- who is arguably the best middle weight ever, if not, he certainly was the best of his era. Tony showed immense tenacity in that fight- he was like a Staffordshire Bull Terrier- he just stuck at it and kept going. His humility and down to earth attitude is much to his credit.

In my opinion Tony sibson was one of the best British fighters to never win a world title. I used to love watching Tony fight...Tony was a tremendous puncher and be threw them in combinations . He was also a very good boxer. Sadly for Tony Marvin Hagler was the undisputed champion at the time and I believe Marvin was the greatest middleweight champion at the time. I have about 30 fights of Tony's on DVD and he drifted in and out of fights at times. Tony was well past his prime when he fought Frank Tate and Andries was to big for Tony when they fought. Tony has all his faculties and speaks honestly as he always did. God bless you Tony. A great fighter.

@KryptonitetoallBS
@KryptonitetoallBS 3 года назад
@SchecterC7FR11 This is a British video of a British boxer. Why would I have to clarify for anyone which nationality of boxers I'm referring to? Secondly it's YOU who need to learn your history. Below is an account of the reaction to Ali refusing to go to Vietnam. And just fyi the British always loved him. He actually won our biggest award for foreign sportspeople every year for years! Annually it's called the Sports Personality of the year award. Now read below and learn something............."The remarks and actions were even more controversial than the former Cassius Clay’s conversion to Islam in 1964. The Vietnam War was popular at the time in the U.S., and the sight of a man, especially a black man, who not only refused to serve-but did so eloquently-incensed the sporting, media, and political establishments. Ali instantly became a national pariah-perhaps the most hated man in the country, as can be evinced in this monologue from David Susskind, the American television host, who was addressing Ali: (The link itself is worth following for Susskind’s obvious antipathy toward the man on the television screen.) I find nothing amusing or interesting or tolerable about this man. He’s a disgrace to his country, his race, and what he laughingly describes as his profession. He is a convicted felon in the United States. He has been found guilty. He is out on bail. He will inevitably go to prison, as well he should. He is a simplistic fool and a pawn. Nor was Susskind the only man, nor whites alone in opposing Ali’s actions: Jackie Robinson, the first black man to play in the major leagues, said Ali’s stand was hurting African Americans who were, unlike him, fighting in Vietnam.

Great interview, honest as the days long, he is as he was in ring the gym a true gentleman When Sibbo came to London he trained at Knacker Hills, Tony Lavelles Masons Arms Battersea, we sparred and trained together he was a banger, and hit so hard. Great fella, proud to say I know him, lovely guy. Com on' Sibbo he lit the world up with his style and power.

Sibbo was a very underrated fighter. Leicester should be proud of him. At one point he used to train at the Queen Vic in Syston, if I remember correctly. Back then there were more than a few British fighters that were hyped beyond their capabilities, but I remember watching his fights with Hagler , Collins, and Dennis Andreas and thinking Jesus this guy can box. Never saw an episode of Minder with Dennis waterman without thinking about tony Sibson.🤣

His KO over Collins was straight out of Hagler's destruct and destroy manual. Why Collins elected to trade punches with a vicious left hooker like Sibson was beyond me. The Americans were going mad during the short duration of that fight.

@BLOGAN BURGESS John Collins. He had an impressive looking record until you looked a little closer. Went back to fighting cans after Sibbo battered him, before stepping up again and getting the same treatment from Robbie Sims.

@BLOGAN BURGESS Same thing happened to another Collins....George Collins from the UK who I think was 36-0 before fighting a really good opponent. He lost to the only two class acts he faced in Kirkland Laing and Gary Jacobs.

Went to see him fight Mark Kaylor at Wembley. I went as a Kaylor fan and come away as a Sibbo fan. Think Bruno was on the same bill that night. Another British fighter with a big heart, like Dave Boy Green and Colin Jones. Good to see he's well and the full ticket.

Great comments there and about some of Britain's forgotten fighters from the 70s like Dave Boy Green and John H Stracey etc. I was brought up watching highlights of these lads on Sportsnight, on the BBC on Wednesday nights, introduced by the late Great Harry " Arry" Carpenter, who knew his Boxing and was a brilliant commentator, who was very fair and unbiased.

@@francishegarty8087 I can remember Dave Boy Green or the Fen Tiger, got matched up against Sugar Ray Leonard. In th US I think. Unsurprisingly, he got outclassed by Leonard. Great days!

Cheers for that, yes your right, he was stopped by Leonard who was on a different level but fair play to Dave Boy, he gave a good account of himself, another 1 of Britain's finest to be never crowned World Champion like Watson and Graham amongst others. At least the Top Guys fought each other then and you had to earn the right the hard way, take care mate.
