#6 in the Tony Vaz tribute series. This is one of the funkiest and tightest bass lines I have played so far. With distinctive phrasing in every verse and instrumental break, a plethora of licks and nuances, it's a perfect complement to the percussion while being a song in itself.

Wow man. This song has always stood out with its amazing bassline. Love how the bass locks in and plays with the rhythm throughout the song. Both Tony and RD were geniuses. And you are such an amazing player.

@@pkanth1 Thank you very much...one song is also there from Shiva (Hindi)movie..."marte hai tum par kabse hum" or from movie Mayor Sahab - "chora chori milke door Rahe...( Excuse me for above choice of songs .. but I found use of bass in these songs great... though All his songs have bass).

Lovely bass line and great tone- what gear are you using here? Looks like a 5 string bass (is it a Fender)? I must say the bass line is the diamond in the rough in this song; personally the lyrics I find to be not up to the standard of the bass line and the periodic gunshot is pure camp! But hidden behind all that and something many might miss is a gem of a bass line. Thanks for posting! Shankar.

Sevak340 thx! It's a Sire V7 designed by Marcus Miller based on his Fender Jazz bass. It's a 5 string tuned EADGC.

He was a genius. Understood melody-making on bass minutely, and has a fantastic grasp on rhythm - how to lock in with percussion perfectly. He was always coming up with different takes on a phrase through the song, if you listen to Dilbar Mere closely, every phrase is ended differently. He understood how to use the 5th note elegantly, and also used runs on the pentatonic and full scale occasionally to give the sections energy. Finally and most importantly, he understood when not to play, and create spaces in the music. Pyaar mein Dil pey is a fantastic example of playing on and within the beat, and also accenting certain percussion hits while skipping others.
