Critical Bill, I don't know about Tonya being the greatest figure skater in the world at one point in time but at the 1992 Albertville Olympics, Scott Hamilton rated Tonya as the 2nd best technical skater in the world behind Midori Ito.
@@lsrasr158 Scott Hamilton is wrong. I liked Midori and her performance at Albertville was gutsy and terrific. She didn't have Tonya's posture, or spins. Tonya had besides her jumps the most perfect spins ever done. If my opinion means anything she to this day is the greatest skater man or woman ever.
@@sheriffburfordt.justice4488 nice to hear from you again. I know you are a big Tonya fan. Scott Hamilton, the 84 gold medalist and at least 6 olympic games analyst for NBC is quite knowledgeable. Hard to call him wrong. But it was not just him. Toller Cranston, the 76 bronze medalist, Dorothy Hamill, the 76 gold medalist, Chris Dean of Torvill and Dean all sang Midori's praises and raved about her. At the 90 Worlds in Halifax, the triple axel Midori landed was so incredible that both Toller Cranston on Canadian TV and the UK commentator on the BBC said it was probably the best triple axel in the competition including the men. Tracy Wilson, bronze medalist for Canada commentating with Toller at the 90 worlds said that the 89 NHK a few months earlier, Midori skated so well, many thought she should have won the men's competition. Tonya really had one great year, 1991. She never landed a triple axel in competition after 91, did not prepare or perform well at the 92 albertville olympics. On any ratings of triple axels I have ever seen on the youtube or the internet, Midori is rated #1. I have never heard any accomplished skater call Tonya either the greatest skater ever or the greates jumper ever. I know you have strong opinions about Tonya and that is fine. She will always be remembered as the 1st american woman and 2nd woman ever to land a triple axel in competition. And hopefully the I, Tonya movie helps clear the air somewhat about her involvement with the attack on Nancy. Tonya did not deserve to be banned by US figure skating.
@@lsrasr158 Yes I am the biggest Tonya fan. I love her skating for more than her jumps. Spins are a throw away item for most skaters. I loved her spins probably more than her jumps. Don't get me wrong. Midori was a wonderful skater. I also know she had more consistency with the triple axle. In case you are wondering my other favorite skaters are Michelle Kwan, Nicole Bobek, Jill Trenary, Robin Cousins, and Victor Petrenko.
Tonya was the best in the world at one point, she was the champ.I remember those days, and it was heartbreaking watching her skate. Gorgeous, and a power people weren't used to seeing. I'm glad I was there for that brief moment in history.
I got to see her in an exhibition in 1992. You really cannot appreciate just how high her jumps really are unless you are there rinkside. She just hung in the air. I was ready for her to vault herself over the barrier.
She was a absolutely fantastic skater it’s unimaginable to think how many years and hours of practice it takes to get to this standard. In my opinion she was the best in the world, if she had put a performance like this she would have been a gold medalist.
Then why was her husband so threatened by Nancy. I still say Nancy is a classy and more artistic skater. It's not just about how perfect your moves are or about the triple, it's about style and a certain classy elegance that Tanya could never have.
I know that Tonya will never read this but you inspire me so much and you my favourite figure skater and I love you so much and I feel bad for you and what happend to you in your life and your the greatest figure skater
She is awesome! This is a breathtaking performance, Tonya really was the best skater in the world at one point in time. She’s an inspiration and proves that if you work hard enough it doesn’t matter what background you come from. Well done Tonya, you’ll be pleased to know that you’ll go down in history even if the film hadn’t of come out. Although I’m sure, like many people, I’m so glad it did to see your side of the story and the difficulties you faced to get here.
I miss skating a lot. I still could do it. Even though I'm in my 50s. I taught myself to skate when I was younger. I did axels and Lutz and toe loops. I learned from watching tv and had no coach.
Mrs. Tonya harding, you are my biggest life inspiration. You are and will always be the person I admire most. PLEASE Keep shining strong. Pieces of shit will always say shit. YOU ARE FUCKING AWESOME
I'm no expert and I know it's been said to death, but having watched Midori, I observe the following: 1) Tonya is physically powerful and brings sheer force to the art whereas Midori is just so smooth and polished during her performances. The difference in that regard is clearly observable. I don't know which is better, but I am quite sure that the judges always had a whiff of prejudice against Tonya. The whole thing about the costumes pisses me off. My family was much like hers, so I have my own prejudice to play out in Tonya's favor. That girl was screwed in every direction, so it was rather a great accomplishment to have gotten where she did.
When this song started playing at the end of the movie i almost SCREAMED, I just love this song so much, and it goes so perfectly alongside Tonya's routine.
How come everybody talks about tonya's hard times that weren't her fault but they don't talk about Nancy Kerrigan Wrecking a marriage which was her manager and then married him!!!!!!!!!
She didn't try to wreck another person's life, she didn't seeker rival as a threat, she didn't badmouth another skater. Tanya mocked Nancy for getting her leg hit. She didn't like the fuss she was getting.
Eres impresionante y siempre lo seras, eres única y la primera en lograr un triple Axel y eso no lo cambiará nada ni nadie jamás, saludos desde Barcelona España!
Dude! This would have been an excellent song to skate to! Better than Sleeping Bag by Zed Zed Top, but the past is the past. Seriously though, the end of that movie to this song raises goosebumps. I love you, Tonya! As far as female sports I cannot think of a more obvious underdog in history.
@@juliestabile7255 idk what you are talking about. Tanya’s early life was pretty interesting and sad, but people only cared, because, as this video shows, she could skate her ass off.
@@cobrastriesand7693 I said that because I thought you were mocking Nancy and saying no movie would ever be about her. But as far as Tanya's life as a little kid, that true, it was very difficult and interesting to watch, but People do like to make movies out of people's Turmoil.
@@juliestabile7255 oh fair enough. I just meant the fan video (irl Tanya had terrible taste in music), because Harding was a more exciting skater than Kerrigan, though less consistent. Kinda like Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis.
@@cobrastriesand7693 To be honest. I think Nancy just has a more classy way of skating. But of course Tanya is an excellent skater At that competition. I really thought the gold medal winner really blew every one away Wow, her skating, her style. Even her facial expressions were awesome!! That was, of course Oxsanas performance!
I'm only Olympic team member. Placed the in winter Olympics at seven years old. Record gold in ballet at nine. World record at nine Irish jigg. This was 1972
I have been texting Tonya a message on 23/11/2021 and she replied to me a week later on 29th November at exactly 0:43am with a big surprise on my face. it was such a great pleasure to get a messaged back from Tonya. =) I am now a fan of her. she is 51 years old now.
The Best of the Best, i hate amerikan courts, corupted judges... She was to good and they was scared of her. I hope tonya you are ok, that everything is now alwright in your Life, you deserve happines🌈♥️🌈💪
At the competition it was Batman soundtrack(I think) ‘Send In The Clowns’ And ‘Wild Thing’ by Tone Loc was the end of the program. All were instrumentals obviously
