Our Story:
We are five years into a seven year effort of transforming 20 acres of "Piney Grove" in Northwest Florida into our dream homestead/mini farm to be filled with animals and joy. We plan to have a variety of miniature critters on our pastures, raise free-range chickens, grow fish in our pond, garden, plant fruit and nut trees, and harvest wild game. Our goal is
to escape the stresses of corporate life and embrace all that country living
has to offer as we enter the next chapter of our lives. Follow along on our
journey!

The fact that you have access to that hunting lease for such a small investment is amazing. Don’t ever turn loose if that!

We bought 62 acres in north west Florida when i was 64 years old im 67 now. 3 years remodeling the house myself and retired last year. And i feel this property keeps me healthy. The comfort i get is good for the body and soul. I came over from Doss farms and enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

We started our homestead over 20 years ago and have never looked back. We live on 20 wooded acres in Michigan and have a 20 acre hay field to support our horses. It is a lot of work and expense for sure. The flip side is it keeps us healthy, no need for gym memberships. This lifestyle is much better than the typical sedendary american way of life. We, as Americans, are very fortunate to have these choices.

It's getting more expensive to live cheaply, but yes, we feel blessed to have the opportunities we have. Too bad so many people take the greatness of our country for granted. Thanks for watching.

I bought a Hercules job site blower at Harbor Freight for $59 plus the battery and charger, which can be used with their other tools. No need to spend $200 on a blower. And often you can get the tool free with purchase of the battery and charger.

Tiger mosquitos are common in texas too.....they will leave a mark where they bite. We bought 110 acres away from town for less than $1000/acre and we love it. But prices have doubled post-Co**d. PS my wife won't let me film and youtube our videos for the same reasons as your friends.

It's a mixed feeling when you see land that had no homes, all of the sudden broken down into small 5 acres plots, or whatever size.You are happy because it's nice to see people going after their dreams, and you're not against progress, but it's sad to see nature and solitude is slowly but surely leaving the area. I'm with you Brad...

You have better vision and clearance for mowing if you remove the loader.

If your cost is truly around $3K-5K per acre, jump on that, Brad. In Oregon, Idaho, Washington, and Montana land with only a little timber, for harvest and sale, was EASILY $15K/ac. 25 years ago. Since 2008, when the housing market tanked, and now politics has awakened the patriots, that PNW land is easily $20K-30K/ac, and that's with no utilities in or road. If it has saleable timber, ka-ching....blue sky prices. Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho has a condition I call "Celebrity Hoarding Syndrome," by multimillionaire of fame or fortune buying 200-20,000 acre parcels and turning them into private ranches, estates, lodges, airports....more power to capitalism. But...... it slams the real-estate greed and now locals are priced out. Haves vs. Have nots....only worse. And as each parcel gets divided and sold, our next generation will not be able to do as you say, find a place for solitude, homesteading, or rural lifestyle. Our society is set-up to cause people to have to congregate in population centers, for jobs, affordability (if you can call it that), and satisfy many of their "easier, convenient" lifestyle choices...often not by choice, actually. With the push to urban and suburban concentration, it kind of becomes a concentration camp...people trapped by the 7am-8pm lifestyle, hour long commutes, angry people, crime, noise, light, hub-bub....no wonder people want out! But you asked the best question to date (paraphrased): "At what price can we afford to chase the rural homesteader's life?" For some, they realize late that to take on a homestead costs more than they can commit, and have to sell out. Sad. Others sink life savings into it...hoping no life catastrophes come along. And others simply can afford it. That highlights the key takeaway-- it is not cheap to try to live cheaply. And as prices rise, land is finite, and cities grow. Ugh. We are blessed to have a 3 acre plot in semi rural area of SE Tennessee. All the surrounding farmland is not destined to sellout to developers, so we get 5000 acres to look at, without encumbrances of buildings, light, noises....and don't have to pay taxes on it!! Lol! Seriously, though...we'd love to have 10-30 wooded acres, but it's just not doable. Keep on doing you. I'm glad you are blessed to pursue your retired life, only now you're busier than ever. Enjoy and give thanks!
@PineyGroveHomestead
@PineyGroveHomestead 11 месяцев назад
That's the going rate around the here for undeveloped land.....the bigger the parcel, the closer to $1-3K per acre. The closer you get to town services, the closer it gets to $10K per acre. We get one letter a week from land buyers around the country trying to buy it at land prices....they don't know how much we've built on it! Thanks for watching and commenting.
