Thanks Patrick, I loved this video! The only point I don't completely agree with is choosing to learn a sister language to the ones you already speak. Cognate languages are often very tricky not only in translation and interpreting but also in language learning: calques and confusion are always an issue and it may be hard to keep the two of them separate in your brain. I really loved your wonderful language learning tips anyway:)
Thanks Michela! I agree that over the long run they can become problematic but I think they are really beneficial initially. As time goes by you need to develop coping mechanisms to avoid confusion
I needed those coping mechanisms when I was learning some Dutch having done German. It's good in the first instance because you can have a stab at something (same for Spanish from Portuguese or v.v.) but once I'd learnt more, it became difficult to remember which was which.
