I am livid. Where the hell were my damn doctor’s recommendations? I have come to realize I need to manage my own healthcare, but back when I needed this, I didn’t have access to the information. RU-vid hasn’t been around forever.

Same. I’m 62…never was advised about possible benefits of hormones. Became a WORSE alcoholic, MASSIVELY depressed, started on increasing doses of cymbalta…damn. So after a little research, I decided to try to go on HRT and was treated like I’d lost my mind and they said “you’re too old”… by specialist in a well-known and large hospital system .Yesterday I went to a different gynecologist in a poor part of town and we talked a long time and she put me on an estradioll patch and progesterone pills. I just want my last 40 years to finally be DECENT!

I went through menopause at 40 and no one suggested anything and all hormones for women were considered dangerous. I'm now 53 and have bad creepy wrinkly arms and hands and my health is bad. It was terrible enough going through menopause so young, I'm so mad and frustrated.

At 69, I started back on HRT last week. I regret ever stopping ! A heart issue has returned. My skin was better after menopause than before. It was a no-brainer ! HRT protects your heart, bones, and reduces risk of lung cancer, colon cancer & even breast cancer. I can hardly wait until it kicks in again !

Hi Maisie, Me too...i am 69 years (seventy in July) and i started back on after 2.5 years break...what a disaster of a decision that was for me too. I was scared to continue...my gosh what a mess it was like i aged ten or more years in just 2.5 years. My skin, my aches and pains, my blood pressure, insomnia and my hair was dropping out. I started again just six weeks ago...i am sleeping like a baby, my hair is no longer falling out...i am not full of aches and pains , my mood is better. What the heck was i thinking...i wasnt i was just scared and intimidated by the info out there and my doctor. You know my mum is 95 and still on hrt...been fifty years for her. I should have paid attention, she is still alive lol and cannot understand why as no one in her family ever lived that long...her words...she has wonderful skin, thick beautiful hair, sleeps well and is a sharp as a pin mentally.

You are absolutely right. I started early with HRT and it was a god send. I feel and look like a young girl, turned 70, i am super healthy, never had menopausal problems and have no idea what my friends talk about. As my mom suffered from severe menopausal problems, i was wise enough to take care of myself and did not let some docs to persuade me that HRT is unhealthy. We women must take our power in our hands. Fingers crossed for everybody s awakening

Mine began mid thirties with panic attacks and weird periods fibroid surgery because of hormone imbalance. In forties night sweats mood swings. Right when I turned 50 BAM!! Heavy periods, Mood swings. flooding almost hemorrhaging. Now I'm turning 60 in September I still have mood swings, joint ache, vaginal atrophy, UTI's , OCD out of now where, major hair loss, no libido at all ,memory loss, Very high cholesterol and the list goes on and on. The hot flashes are still severe but I manage it all with Vitamin E, vaginal estrogen esterol, Progesterone cream, anti biotic post coitial once a year!, and DIM, Vitex as my progesterone levels are not even noticeable on lab work. I am finally ready to throw in the towel even with cancer history and family stroke history ( all females and all with in a year of taking HRT) There are some specialist in town who can measure my hormones and give me what I need. I surrender to many years suffering, my marriage and family suffering. Enough!!! Thank you for this video. Thank you

Great review of HRT in post menopausal women. A recently released study on the subject was published in Menopause The Journal of the Menopause Society on April 9, 2024. The title of the study is: "Use of menopausal hormone therapy beyond age 65 years and its effects on women's health outcomes by types, routes, and doses" I'm sure your followers (including me!) would love to hear your opinions on this massive study on such a critical and controversial subject.

The detail that you went into about those women and the health initiative I haven't seen anywhere. Thank you for that. I am livid. Also having surgical menopause at 48 years old I was told I don't need it. My body will still make it somehow someway. These doctors are told what they can do and what they can't do. It's really frustrating. So here I am 68 years old still not on any hormone replacement except for some vaginal cream for bladder health, I thank God I had to scream to get that I don't know if this video came out at the same time that the 10 million women over 60 study was released in April 2024. That is what I have myself armed with to go to my doctor with and try to get them to start helping me .

I feel like Steve is talking directly to me. I'm 68 and only in the last 6 months have I quite suddenly awakened to the idea that - even at my age - I could start HRT. I'm remarkably healthy - all seems fantastic actually. Yet... what is the status of my coronary arteries - -do I have any plaque? If so - where... beyond coronary - what about carotid? How would I be able to assess that - a single full body CT? look at calcium in the artery wall? How deep is the rabbit hole on finding out what my artery status is - and how expensive is the testing not covered by Medicare? This part I will definitely discuss with my GP (a PA so not much expected there) but, realistically, I'll need to learn more by ferreting out information elsewhere - no doubt. I've already gone to the simple hormones website and I plan to sign up now. Pharmacists rule. Warmest regards Jennie

Remember, the biggest “risk” to heart attack and stroke is getting older, not HRT. Not much we can do about that. So I figured at 63 and healthy, I really didn’t have anything to lose by starting HRT. 4 months in, I’m feeling good and definitely experiencing some of the benefits.

Currently, I am suffering from premenopausal symptoms that torment me every day. It has been tormenting me for almost three months now, Every day I lose all my energy and I can't go to work, I have insomnia, I'm depressed, I have no energy left to do anything in life, I have to fight with it every day and felt so exhausted, I thought I was going to die. I cried to my gynecologist and begged her to save me during this time. After all the urine and blood tests and all the other examinations, finally my gynecologist I also said I'm in pre-menopause, Finally she decided to give me Hormone therapy (estrogen patch) and progesterone pills, I just started using it 2 days ago, I hope these will help let me get well and have my life return to normal, I really never thought that premenopausal symptoms could be so terrible.

@liqaanaser9258 That's certainly one of the steps that can help assess your heart risk. It's not the only one though. A hormone specialist will often look at a comprehensive blood panel, a carotid intima media thickness (CIMT) test (looks at arteries in your neck), and other signs of heart risk.

@clarewalters5189 As I mention in the video, there's not really a hard and fast "rule" about when you can or can't take HRT. If you have gone without hormones for 10 or more years, a thorough work-up should be done to rule out any underlying heart disease or other conditions that would cause hormone therapy to be contraindicated. If all clear, hormone therapy can be an option. Topical, local vaginal estrogen is always an option, even in those with history of breast cancer. Basically, guidelines overall say the benefits outweigh the risks when started younger than 60 or within 10 years of menopause, but 60 or older or 10 years out from menopause, the risks may be greater than the benefits. This is from the Menopause Society. That still doesn’t mean one can’t benefit during that time, it’s just important to be safe and make sure no previous conditions before starting it. You as the patient have input, its your body, so once you have had good work up, risks and benefits explained to you based on your circumstances, and you want hormone therapy, you should have it prescribed. I hope that helps, it’s a common question, and many women feel angry their provider did not discuss it as an option during that window, but that’s okay because it’s still a possibility like he said!😊

no! do not give up and suffer like that. I am seventy and just went back on HRT...because when i stopped a couple of years ago my insomnia returned. I have tried everything so finally i went back on it has only been six weeks and i am sleeping like a baby again. Please you can get hrt elsewhere if your doctor ignorantly turned you down...do not accept that. Go to an online menopause clinic, do an online consult and get your prescription mailed to you .Simply hormones has experts who can help you i am sure. I live in Costa Rica and here i can just buy HRT without a prescripton in a pharmacy...but then i went to gyno to get checked out and double check the dosage of what i bought . It was not a discussion...i basically told the Gyno that i was going back on no if, ands or buts! Now i feel great again.
