Our teenage ducklings have grown too old to be ducklings. I now need to introduce them to the flock. Introducing ducks to a new flock and be a tricky proposition.
About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. Our dream is that someday we are able to transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.

Your analogy of letting go as children grow is pretty much spot on. I many times told my kids the hardest part of parenting is letting go so they can learn the next step of growing up.

Interesting how much more comfortable the old white ducks seem with the teen ducks, it's like they're shielding them from the rest of the flock.

Hi Gold Shaw Farm, When I was young our next door neighbours here in Matlands in Perth Western Australia had ducks, chickens and turkeys. They were some of the best years of my life. Best wishes to you and your family. Enjoy and thank you for the opportunity to view what you do. Cheers, Peter Fornero Claremont W.A.6010

You might want to do some research on geese. My understanding is that they are monogamous. Usually taking a mate for life. To have them function as guard geese they need to be raised with what ever critter you want them to guard so they bond with the species.

I like to think of a big Planet where all the Animals go, Like a planet of cows spirits. A planet of Happy ducks spirits ,A planets of happy chickens spirits . They have the best time Every planet is just what they would love . If I think of animals in Heaven and Happy , It doesn't trouble me the whole death and life . This life is full of troubles and heartache .Especially Death of Family , pets and farm animals .If We people are offered to go to the Great resting heavenly Dimension with Jesus . I pray animals are put out to perpetual lovely pasture planets+oo ..❤😏😹⚘.

Before harvesting the ducks and geese - you should flood the pond to let them have one day in the pond - it's no big deal to put a long hose from the well to the pond..... a dying duck wish to be in the water...

I have had my ducks break off into little packs that travel the yard and pond in their respective group. At night they all come back together into their pen and get along OK. In the spring it is more noticeable than the fall and winter when they all keep together (safety in numbers thing I'm thinking).

Thank you for sharing this video of the teenagers joining the main flock. Since it is nearly time for freezer camp could you save one of the geese to be your guard goose for the chickens. It makes for a nice relationship and they really are protective..they take their job seriously. Have a Blessed day, looking forward to more work on the duck house.

"All Ducks Go To Bed!" That is really some cool shape training. I actually just suggested your videos to White House on a Hill because they were literally complaining about getting their ducks to go to bed. Hopefully they saw the post & will try it. I'd love to see how their training goes with their boys assistance in doing it. Been really enjoying your vids while putting together my new charcoal grill. Turned a supposedly 45 minute activity into 4+ hours. I'm normally slow though & watching the vids did help me keep my temper though. Thanks for the entertainment!
