Uh, I stopped your video at 7:26. The reason I did so is I was lost. You spent the greater part of two minutes explaining what I am guessing is a simple process, with many discussion points and diversions. Compound the fact that you started the overall video by stating that 'this an introduction which I dont like to do...' followed by another introduction out under the awning. Put succinctly: to much data/information put out to quickly in verbal format. Please understand this criticism is meant with sincerity and gratitude for your efforts and not as a dismissal and condescension. Thank you.

Hi Rob! Thanks for the comments (and unlike me in the video.....succinctly well said!) to boil it down --- More do....less say. Very good advice.

Should I use undersized bits make specific for plywood or will normal size bits work well?
@sdsconstruction
@sdsconstruction 3 месяца назад
Hi Adam.... thanks for commenting! I use upcut spiral bits (1/4in on my cordless router and 1/2in on my corded) when I have them and two flute straight cutters when I don't have the upcut. I also use a router pattern bushing that inserts into the router base allowing the bit to pass through it while the bushing guides the cut with whatever pattern I am using, in this case, straight quarter inch slots while keeping the pattern safe from cuts and nicks.

Does your plywood fit loose in those joints you router or do you use undersize bits made to match the size of the plywood? I bought a set of router guides and can’t wait to use them!

@@Adamthebuilder Hi Adam. Thanks for the question. The router bit I use to route the slots is 1/4in and the plywood is slightly less than 1/4in (likely metric) so they fit but not tight so I don’t have to force them.

Really appreciate all the time and thought you put into this video. I’ve been weighing the pros-cons of making this jig. The tips and pointers in this are super helpful. Thanks.

Thanks for checking out the video and commenting Mike! I appreciate you and the time you took. I am very happy to have made this jig and have used it to make 3 cubbies for my basement in the style of Ron Paulk's trailer and have used it to route slots in box sides for dividers. To me, it was worth the time. I will really get my time's worth when I build out my next trailer (with luck, next year) and create the three 8 foot stacked set of tool cubbies. That build out I am looking forward to!!

@@sdsconstruction Teaches full time and does a construction side-hustle in the summer…. wow…. wish there was a ‘send $’ button so I could help you restock your Pabst supply or get some cool new tool. As a retired veteran teacher, I noticed the joy you get helping others. It really shines through in this channel. Can’t tell you how thankful and hopeful it makes me to know there are people like you out there. Mad respect not only for the tips but for the inspiring example.

Congratulations on your career and I hope your retirement is going well and that you are having a great time with it! I am 10 years away from submitting my letter. Its all good since I am still having a good time and really enjoy helping my students out with the chem and physics! My channel started with the Ron Paulk trailer tour during C-19 and my Paulk bench build. Back then the only editing I did was the pause button on my phone. Thanks to Ron for all the inspiration for the builds and as much for the inspiration to make and post videos. It all started with a challenge from him to make a tour video that he would post. I made it but posted it myself and since then, have really enjoyed making it a neat hobby. If any of my videos inspires someone like the inspiration I get from other contractors and their "how to's" and their trailer tours and their shop builds, then I feel like I have given something back for what I have gotten from YT! Thanks for the kind words and vote of confidence! @@mikehiggins8673

What kind of router bit did you use on the edges to to trim the edges
@sdsconstruction
@sdsconstruction Год назад
Thanks for the question Jonathan! My go to router bit for easing edges is a 1/8" round-over bit chucked into a quarter inch collet on the cordless router I use (which only takes quarter inch shafted bits anyway). I know a lot of woodworkers that prefer chamfer bits instead of round-over bits. If I had one, I would likely use it as often as the round-over.

I do love your smart trailer it's awesome I've seen it before in your videos but I haven't mentioned it until you brought it up

Thanks jonathan! I bought it and built it out in 2019 and with 3 years in, I am still amazed and happy to have it (or some system like it) for organization and tool storage/retrieval. I appreciate the comments!

Not to rain on your rainy day, but that’s not a spiral router bit you show at 31:03
@sdsconstruction
@sdsconstruction Год назад
Good One!! You are correct. I never swapped it out from the two flute bit to the upcut spiral! I think it was still chucked since I broke my last upcut spiral a while back. I had ordered more in but never actually swapped out. Routing went well and was easy so no problems there but up/downcuts are supposed to move material away that this bit is not designed to do (I think....) Nice catch Andy! Thanks for checking out the video and for the comment.

thanks for the comment and for checking out the video. In the video I am truly sincere when I say that this jig is very cool for making those cubbies! I am very happy I invested the time and resources into the project and I know how additionally relieved I will be when I get that new trailer in a couple years and use this jig again for the next trailer build out. Good luck with your projects!
