Agreed. I wish the gong slam was a little more pronounced in the album, but that's why these live videos (and seeing them in concert) is such as treat.
@@bryanclark7608 You said it sir. I saw Tool a few months ago before Covid ruined everything, and it was GLORIOUS, STUNNING, BEAUTIFUL. I got choked up. Amazing show.
i dont think descending is tool at their best. its amazing, i love the new album, but lateralus and aenima were much stronger. song like H, Lateralus, third eye, holy trinity, the grudge, wings pt 1 and 2 are much better
@@Trevor_Shepherd No doubt about Lateralus. I've seen Tool perform that song live 3X, and it left me completely speechless. Descending for me is perfection because the song has a beautiful flow, MJK's voice is in top form and the rest of the geniuses are firing on all cylinders. To me its Tool doing what they do best. Just saying 😌
@@rubaidaallen2764 That they likely paid themselves for. Can't shut up for 2 hours of their lives. Cheer in between songs. Not that hard. Talk then if you have to.
I talk to the people next to me while at a concert and sing along. God knows I belted this song when they played it. People don't have to stay quiet, i think Tool should do live dvds so we don't have to find remastered audio from people's phones
what. the. fuck. i have waited 13 years with all of its ups and downs, and when i gave up on them, they come back with this shit, hit me right in my core, ending up in tears, suddenly
@@shawnlake1102 Bros.........right there with both of you. I've seriously probably listened to this track over 100 times since that Rockville performance and it's still as incredible as the first listen. It's so damn solid!
The light-tech inside me noticed that with the gong the laser effetcs were introduced for the first time that night.. it's one of my favourite moments of the evening and the best example for how well that show is put together as a whole!
One of Adam's best riffs into a monster fucking gong smash from Danny. Love how he just throws the mallet and picks the stick back up and doesnt miss a beat. I'm so glad these guys found each other in the world to make the music they do and grateful to be alive to witness.
So many bands change their style to feel "relevant" as the times go by, but I cant think of one time Tool ever caved to any change in any era. Greatest band to ever grace this earth.
Seen them live at download festival yesterday, got to the barrier, as close to Maynard as possible. When he sings “Mobilise, stay alive!” I got goosebumps like I never have before. It was chilling like jumping into an ice cold shower for the first time but in the best way possible. I then couldn’t stop shaking from pure adrenaline until the final climax of the song when Danny hits the gong, then it happened again, the same chilling goosebumps feeling all over again just a few minutes later. I’ve been to quite a lot of concerts but I have never felt so alive in my entire life, Descending is everything I wanted from Tool’s new album and more
Queuing up to get in and overheard a lad saying"tool haven't done anything for years they shouldn't even be on the main stage". My god I hope he watched this and learnt about proper musicians proper craftsmanship of songs. They were stunning
Sound the dread alarm To the primal body. Sound the reveille To be or not to be..... MJK has reached another level of greatness. As have they all. A monumental work.
I have listened to Invincible and Descending live multiple times and really like both songs. I have to say that Danny Carey’s drum work is some of the most powerful stuff I have heard and I can’t wait for the new album to come out.
Danny now officially IS probably the best drummer of all time. Such a beast! This Level of Creativity, the skill, those polyrhythms, this speed and with that accuracy is just INSANE and I'm not sure somebody ever got there before. Great stuff going on at Adam's there too, can't wait to hear the Album and the other songs! !
Cinnamon Life Cereal yea I like Vinnie...check out Dennis Chambers as well, a lot of good studio drummers...in any case all of the above named drummers are beast Carey, Peart all of them
"officially IS" ....... then you say "probably" lolol. I feel you though before I really studied tool I thought it was Gavin Harrison and you never know who is out there... but until I find someone better this IS the greatest drummer to ever do it..... by a landslide.
Super duper awesome! They’re really tightening these songs up as they continue touring! So great that the day of new tool music hath FINALLY arrived! Aug 30, hold on to your seatbelts!
What I like about Tool's work is that it has to be listened to multiple times before the overall rhythm and concept bursts forth. An exploration, preferably in an altered state.
Justin playing open to Danny and Maynard, and Adam playing open to Danny at the end is extremely powerful. These four band mates still love playing with each other bc they didn’t overdo it, and push out needlessly these past years.
YOU KNOW WHAT I ABSOLUTELY LOVE!!! PEOPLE ARE TAKING IN THEE GREATNESS THAT IS TOOL... AND NOT YAPPING THERE GUMS OUT!!! WELL DONE ON THEE AUDIO AND VIDEO...
You Germans really appreciate good live shows it seems.. in Florida there first time playing this people just would not shut the fuck up... Thanks guys for this .you guys are some of the most loyal metal fan base in the world!!!
It was a festival in Florida. Not everyone there was there to see Tool. I was there and everyone around me were dead quiet when they played the new tunes. Dont let one video make you form an opinion on a state with 20 million people. We have jackasses just like every other place
@@yrmthr ,lol don't take that comment too serious ..my main point of that comment was really just how much good energy I seen in this video.but I get what your saying tho.. I've seen some of the best shows there was ever to see..and there is always your handful of assholes
Tomas Haake and Mario Duplantier are just as good, if not better. But Danny is awesome as hell and is very creative. Just like with all great bands, each musician compliments the other. The sounds these guys create together are like no other. Can't wait for the full album!
@@maxotto9877 Of course. But just listen to Bleed by Meshuggah. He worked on the drums for that for 6 months. Also check out the beginning of the art of dying by Gojira or heaviest matter of the universe. Danny is awesome but these other two edge him out imo.
@@maxotto9877 You like his style and I get that. I've been listening since '94 but I can admit that sometimes the tool community has a tendency to engage in some hyperbole when it comes to these guys. Danny is awesome, but don't think anyone can say he's the best drummer in rock. To be fair, I don't think you can say that about anyone. Each of the drummers mentioned brings something different to the table. Let's just be thankful that we have them to listen to. And we finally have a new Tool album after all these years!
I believe it is. It's not like Tool to play a part one without playing part two. But considering this is a new song, I feel like this is defenitely a part one to something else.
this is some damn good stuff. Justin is more animated than ever and Adam using techniques that he creates to confuse virtuosos. Danny the solid backbone of the band, a fucking 8 armed drumming machine. at possibly his peak. Not alot to say about Maynard that hasn't been said its obvious that he is an alien visitor I'm ok with that. Fothermucker Thank you for this well done...
how the fuck does any man play drums like that!? he's got that jon bonham thunder-stick grove to him, for sure! carey demands the attention on this track...on this entire album really.
I love Bonham and Peart... but there is something about Carey that just brings it to another level. The composition is top notch. Every hit is to add to the story of the song. All while playing odd meters with polyrhythms. No one can match the compositional intellect that is Danny.
I saw them in Vienna. Before the gong thing they kept it quite repetitive, so i was drifting away with thoughts. Then he hits that gong, but in vienna he hit harder, so it was almost like a terrifying scream and i pulled me out of them thoughts and a realised that suddenly lasers appeared and in that moment I became a better version of myself.
Man...over the last 4 years, I absolutely thought we were not going to see another TOOL album I just cannot wait for Aug. 30th. I actually feel like a kid the night before Christmas...you know, where time feels like its slowing down the closer we get to it....I havent been this excited in decades...it feels so great!
Thanks for posting. Wish, there was a drum cam video of Danny playing this song, hopefully Vic Firth recorded the whole concert, lol. That gong hit at 10:48 is just incredible.
Danny has a renewed energy field in him. I definitely noticed him hitting the drums a lot harder than ever, especially close to the end. Perhaps he is just happy that they are finally playing new music live! Great song. Band is still on fire 🔥🤘
I think it's still so mind blowing that they are only 4 people... and only 3 instruments. Tool is the band that we need but don't deserve. They are the dogs of music.
*if there's a perfect combination of completely different individuals which actually for once worked out- it surely has to be this band right here- Tool!*
Pure genius, I feel bad for people who miss the opportunity to witness and embrace musical talent. They rather listen to artists who have no talent with names that are initials and letters...
Unfortunately a lot of people just want something that is easy to digest. For me personally, listening to music is a very intense experience and only music that I have to work hard to listen to satisfies me, and it took me many years to realize that not everyone in the world is as interested as I am in things like complexity, attention to detail, and composition. Tool will never be appreciated enough for the same reason that great philosophers and scientists and artists will never be appreciated enough: you have to give it time and energy. People are, for lack of a better word, lazy. They don't want to seek out and take time to experience great art. I feel sorry for these people honestly. They have closed and deactivated their mind, the greatest gift they have, and they will never experience the world to the fullest. At least you and I know and can experience Tool!!!
@@josephtattum6365 I agree and thank you for your reply. I listened to Tool every night for a year straight during my last military deployment to Iraq. I worked out to them which helped motivate me and keep the distractions of military service while deployed less stressful. I sincerly wish this album would have been available. I've been a Rush fan since 1979, All the Worlds a Stage, I wish Tool could drop a live album especially off their current tour.
I concur. Listening to a 16 minute masterpiece is not for everyone. I think you have to be a certain kind of person to appreciate what Tool does. Some people want easily digestible garbage while the rest of us what to be taken on a journey and have our minds blown. That's where Tool comes in 😌
@@FotherMucker00 NP we as fans need to unite! It's 2019 and we are getting a new tool album!! I'd rather wait then get a terrible album every year. They make masterpieces
Thank you dude, I was right up the front in the standing area hearing this for the first time ever with my arms wrapped round the love of my life.... Truly electric moment!!!
This song seems to be a desperate call to action to save the human race from self-inflicted doom. The narrator describes us as being stuck within a madness of our own making, and quite passionately expresses the need for us to rise up and take action- “lest we cease to be.”
To all those that are disappointed with the new Tool material all I can say is maybe you'll like the next stuff coming out circa 2032. As for me I will savor these new efforts for I'll never make it another 13 years.
for tool standards, this text is anything but subtle. its a very clear call for action. its the only tool song i know that directly calls for action, too.
Been listening to this on repeat since the first tour leaked.. Saw them in Lincoln.. This video really captures it right. Great job thank you so much for putting this up. The song has really grown on me lots of detail and tight precision.
*they travel with their own equipment (from amp to PA). that and people on their crew that know what they're doing probably helps a lot to achieve a better sound each time.*
Dude i saw them in Budapest, a few days after the Amsterdam show. I don't know about you, but it was one of the best nights of my life. I literally cried for like 1/4 of the concert. This band means so much to me, and seing them live was an actual dream come true.
You almost trick yourself into thinking they can’t be this good....those three guys must feel the utmost humble to be the best instrumental gathering of mankind. At least they have broken the envelope of perfection, and for everyone else to realize it besides them is a mind bender.
Agree best song of the album. Btw outstanding sound that you captured. Chapeau how you were able to capture it with the security guys roaming around every minute
