Hear ya brother. Pushing 30 for me too, I'll be 39 soon lol. hell of a time to become a teenager in the early 90s after being raised on pink floyd, zeppelin, Hendrix, Santana, yes, deep purple etc... Paul & Justin are my inspiration for learning bass.

52 already behind me, but tool keeps hitting deep, specially last album, decending gives me goosebumps everytime.

This album from start to finish is chef’s kiss. It always takes me back to the moment it was released. I was 16 at the time and had been listening to them since I was 13. But when THIS happened It evoked something in me and still does. Tool has taken me places I can’t explain with words. True fans KNOW exactly what I mean. Seeing them live in my 40’s was a life altering moment, I felt like my life had come full circle and it was like I had reconciled my damaged teen self with who I am now. And all was right in “my” world. As I said above … it’s difficult to articulate with words.

Sometimes I find myself losing interest in Tool's music as I'm a daily listener. Geebz never fails to rekindle that interest and passion for the intricate beauty that Tool has created. His ability to articulate the feelings woven into the auditory web of complexity is inspiring and makes me want to continue to dissect the layers of meaning that tool has laid for us to discover.

@@scottballinger40 some Tool fans are tools. They just think they're super smart and "mindful", or "spiritual" or whatever other gae thing. Tool itself has actually even poked fun at the fans that take their music way too seriously

@@scottballinger40 I like pushing myself to use more complex vocabulary when communicating especially when I'm writing to improve my vocab skills. Not really for anyone but myself. I do in fact talk like this in certain conversations but only when I get deep or philosophical or I'm talking about something I'm very passionate about (eg. TOOL lol). Tool music is deeply meaningful to me I've never heard anything like it. It's the only band I can listen to every day and never get tired of. Which I think is why I like to write or speak poetically about them, because their music is so deep and profound to me. Didn't mean to give off a pretentious vibe I'm just very passionate about Tool music lol and I figured that's why everyone was here in the comments section of a tool music dissection video. My all time favorite Tool song, and probably top 10 songs for me period.

Yeah... I was listening again just now... haven't heard in a while... The sound of it takes me waaaayyyy back... the pick scratches, the clean tone... an undeniable magical album this one was.

Same boat, born Dec 87. Graduated 06 and listened to Lateralus non stop. Took years to appreciate Aenima, but now it’s a staple and irreplaceable in the catalog, especially as a guitar player. H. is a tense song that builds and build and builds and finally releases.

That’s exactly how I felt with Schism. I always asked my self, “how the hell is this one of their most popular songs??” It’s my FAVORITE song of theirs now lol

hey its me. cheers to all our 88/06 late tool fans. I was able to see them at the gorge in george, washinton - amazing show! Got tickets to two shows for next year - I'm always thinking "this could be their last tour!" so didn't want to miss it.

That was me killing everything inside of me that was my mother, including getting treatment for my bipolar 1, clinical depression, PTSD, and anxiety; something my mother never did because it's not our way, and something my abuela never did because, again, it's not our way. We're Chiricahua and Mestizo-- our family endured the residential schools and the abuse of having the Indian beaten out of us by the whites at the schools, and that, method of discipline got passed down generation by generation and created a chain of rage and PTSD. It's serious, what multiple concussions as a child and a persistent fight/flight response does to your brain. "As the walls come down, and there's a look in your eyes, my fear begins to fade, recalling all of the times I have died. I will die. It's alright. I don't mind." That's me seeing my sons look at me with love, not fear, and that I'll happily kill that part of myself a million times to see that love there, that trust, and not the fear that I harbored for my mother all day, everyday, until I was 16 and realized I was 7 inches taller and 30lbs heavier than her and I fought back for the first time. I have my father to thank for teaching me that you could love and trust a parent, that I didn't have to fear him. He died July 25th and I miss him so, so much. I miss his voice. I miss talking to him everyday. I miss his wisdom and I miss his love. He and my husband are the reasons I became a good mother and I'm glad I told him all of this and thanked him long before he died.

Regardless of the memories that will never leave you, the support from your husband and love of your children will always defeat the burning rage internally suppressed. As a male who was physically and psychologically abused throughout childhood Tool have helped me through many dark times and still do today as a form of personal therapy and anger mgmt. Ths song especially hits home as a father now to a son who I could never dream of hurting the way my family hurt me. Hence why to him they don't exist. Thank you for having the courage to share your experiences, you are not alone.

hm. never saw Jambi as a cycle of abuse song. I usually saw it as a personal issues and his own divide "if wants and needs divide me then I might as well be gone".

@@tool-reflectionarmy6258 yeah, I can see from that line but as a whole it doesn’t, to me, seem to be about abuse. “Here from a kings Mountain View…but I would wish it all away if I’d lose you just one day” actually seems more like a relationship he is trying to keep except he has this ambition to make money and feel like a sultan. I read years ago this was a possible song towards his son. I read it As his internal desires (legion, he wants to silence) wants him to be selfish. “Damn my eyes if They should compromise the fulcrum” his eyes are desiring something (I think money and fame). We already know Maynard doesn’t like fame and attention. Personally, I think he exorcised a lot of those abuse demons with Aenima. And I’d say Pushit is definitely another to your list.

Huh?? His father did nothing to him. That's a horrible accusation. His parents divorced when Maynard was 3. His dad is a school teacher and also wrestling coach. Maynard went to live with his father and that is where he joined the Glee club, wrestling team and theater. He also did long distance running at that school. If you're thinking (Prison Sex) is his personal experience with his father that is completely wrong.

@@ks5553 P.S.- I'm of two minds when it comes to The Melvins; one on hand, I believe their music is way too underrated and they should be recognized for more than just "The Band That Influenced Nirvana". They've created a ridiculous amount of music over the years that is so diverse it's crazy; but I think that the things that make them so unique are also the things that kept them from attaining a Nirvana or Pearl Jam level of fame; which they are fine with and I have to admit, so am I. I would much rather have a smaller group of loyal fans who truly appreciate the music, than say a larger group of fair weather fans who only like the hits. Lastly, one of the things that I love about The Melvins is their integrity; they care about the music and their fans, That's it! All of the hollow posturing that goes on in the superficial vanity projects that make up the majority of 'music' these days is the antithesis of what The Melvins are; and I, for one, am thankful that I was born in a time to have witnessed that firsthand.

@@20th_century_Ghost I saw them for the first time in '91and have been a huge fan since. I honestly think Buzz is one of the greatest songwriters of all time, up there with Hank Williams and Mozart. On one hand I would love to see them recognized for 3 decades of brilliant music and get hugely famous. But I know that'll never happen and I'm kinda glad because I can go see them perform at shows with only a handful of people...and they're never not one of the best shows I've ever seen. They actually came close to getting big right after Nirvana hit. They had a deal with Atlantic and put out a few great albums. And then when Cobain mentioned them (they were supposed to play the MTV Unplugged concert but missed the flight) all the MTV fans got on board for a bit and Buzz was not into it at all lol. The album that resulted from the fame-push was called "Prick" and it's one of, if not the most all-time experimental "hard to listen to if you're not into them" bombastic time-signatureless machine metal noisescape things they ever did. Put an end to the whole fame thing with style lmao. Buzz also talks about Mike Patton getting revenge on the MTV fans for booing the Melvins (opening for Mr Bungle) at shows during that era.
