I would like to highlight a couple of things you're doing here. - You're a very experienced professional that is sharing a lot of knowledge through an open channel - The only money you're asking is to help children at hospitals - You are always in a good mood and listen to the comments (which is good for everyone, imho) - You understand a lot on a music style that is extremely hard to perform and compose The world needs more people with this spirit. Just share knowledge you have for a honorable cause. Donate yourself or part of your life to those who have so little or that just need a bump to feel better for the next day. Keep it up man, you're a good guy

Bill Hicks, the gentleman at the intro, was a comedian in the late 80's early 90's. Controversial and deemed one of the best ever. Maynard and he were good friends (the whole band really), so this is a tribute to him after he passed from lung cancer early in his life (30's?). Very influential person as far as mind opening and truth speaking. Third eye opening and psychoactive drugs were kinda his forte. Along with political slamming and just generally getting people to wake up.

Bill Hicks. A comedian Maynard really loved and connected with. He truly looked up to him and wanted him to open up for Tool on tour. It never fully happened the way Maynard wanted to. Bill wasn't sure about the idea. When he passed, Maynard made sure Ænima, the album, was in his honor. It's in the booklet.

What a way to start the year!! Third Eye has always struck me as less a "song" and more the attempt to convey an experience sonically. Its design is so ambient and evolving and non traditional. Its really a journey of thought and emotion versus structure. This piece takes a number of listens to really begin conceptualizing the whole form and interconnections, and I've found that my relation to it changes drastically depending on whats going on in my life. Sometimes it drives me away, sometimes it pulls me in. Really amazing work of art.

@Spasstiful
@Spasstiful 3 года назад
This resonates so well with how I would describe it. I only ever appreciated this song after a lot of listens, but when I reached that point to "structure" what seemed like a "structureless" mess of sound it became very powerful to me. There is no part in this song that throws me off, it's like the concept of a missing "structure" forced my brain to create one on its own - in that sense this song is literally a tool. This is pretty uncommon in music I believe, or at least in most music I am accustomed to and it really makes me appreciate this as an art piece so much. When the "guitar solo" in the beginning comes, this concept can be seen very well, it has somewhat structure and then turns into a weird kind of noise making, sometimes it feels like it's that which I can't understand when reflecting on my myself, the deeper you look, the less clear it all becomes, yet it somewhat makes sense, this "chaos", even if it is incomprehensible.

Geebz, you're an incredibly proficient RU-vidr, you're doing a great job already, and the depth of conversation that you're bringing to the field of music is something that we really don't see much. So often, people who create reaction videos or even analysis videos will focus much more on the surface, and rely on researching things about the music rather than really listening to the tracks and feeling them / getting lost in them while simultaneously breaking them down. That's what you do, and it's really clear to me that it's something special. As a fan of Tool's music, also, I have to say that it's refreshing to hear someone with an overall neutral take on their music really trying to understand what makes it creative and interesting. It's helped me appreciate their music better (and the music of other bands I've seen you do), and has already taught me a lot about both how I can more deeply listen to music, and about music theory in general. Thank you for being an inspiration, keep up the great work.

46 year old regular dude that just so happens to be a Tool fanatic since ‘92. Last decade or so it’s almost a closet thing, lol. Kids, career, no longer athlete I used to be, etc. My close friends know the effect Tool has on me. 2008 concert in Richmond, VA and I’m into it, doing my thing... look up and the 6 other guys I came with had given me 4 seats worth of room and were applauding and giving me my Tool. That said now I enjoy my evening with a drink and l always find myself searching Tool. You my friend have hit EVERY thing that I’ve been looking for in a Tool reaction I’ve been looking for. I have my own ideas and thoughts etc. and your perspective shines SO much light. My parents put a baseball bat In my hand when I was a baby and not a guitar. Last 10 years wish was other way. Obviously You get it and you help lead me to “getting it” fully. Appreciate you and doing this. Keep em coming my man.

The repetition will put you into a “meditative wobble”. Very common driving pattern of Tool songs, purposeful. Ever get into that involuntary wobble as the energy oscillates through you when meditating? Tool puts me right there.

This song (and record) terrified me when I was 12, and I loved it so much. There's such an ominous and suffocating vibe throughout the entire record because of how they played with mono and stereo. Great review!

I notice you havent done any of their "new" songs yet (other than the drum cam video).....I recommend Descending. Is has a little of everything TOOL is good at. Parabol and Parabola (2 songs but MUST to be played back to back) is in the same vain

The "Salival live" version of this song is, IMO even better than the album track, a near perfect live performance. IDK if you have done it yet, but a great Tool song for you to react to would be their cover of No Quarter by Zepplin, another one from Salival, Tool push that song to the limits in such a perfect way, I get chills still every time I hear it.

Happy New Year. Really anything from Aenima is likely to blow you away, they really peaked on that album and 3rd eye is no exception. Would love to see you branch out into some of the newer prog that's going places few bands/reviewers are exploring. My suggestion, Frost's "Dividing Line" is a modern day masterpiece that I've not seen any reactor's touch on yet and that's a shame.
@awakenedtarot7306
@awakenedtarot7306 3 года назад
In my experience, the people who think Tool peaked on Aenima are people who at least appreciated the alternative scene from the early to mid 90s. For someone like me, who was deep into progressive metal, Tool really came into their own on Lateralus (best album ever) and continued to pioneer the proggy metally genre from that point forward. I literally enjoy every album after Aenima more than Aenima. By a lot.
