I can see, coming back after 13 years can make a lot of sense for how they felt coming into the scene again. Then they showed off like old men on a basketball court and dunked on us all!
This is a fucking masterpiece. I've experienced this song live 7 times... it's STUPID good. I've sobbed so many times to this song. It's beautiful but also hits hard AF. No words. You need to listen to this song at least 10 more times today. It may take a while to sink in ..as with most of their songs.
The breakdown where it goes into the very rhythmic instrumental (at 12:00 in this video) is godly live. I will go to every tool show I can from here to their retirement hoping to experience it again
@@lonewanderer2287 I didn't serve in the military but I spent 20 years as a paramedic. There's quite a few things I'd like to unsee. That "shield" gets dreadfully heavy
Spot on to the meaning. Been with you since the beginning of your Tool journey and I can tell you will be waiting with all of us for the next album when and hopefully it comes. You my friend are a hard core member of the Tool army now
Glad you enjoyed this one. It's funny, this is one of my favorite tracks of theirs now but I don't think I would have liked it had I heard it as the raging teen that initially felll in love with this band ( I'm 42 now). 0:21
I knew you'd like this track, it literally is my fave song by them and I've been a fan since the start. Lyrically it hits home every time and musically it just plain out rocks!!😎😎 Great reaction, continue your spiral man!!🌀🌀🌀
As a brand new 50yo, this song has special significance… more years behind than ahead, strength waning, racing against the darkening when usefulness will fail me.
We are all warriors fighting to live and thrive I feel this song is a reminder to do what you can while you still have the agency. There is sort of reliving the glory of the past of where I have been, tales told of battles won. When one spends too much time dwelling in the past they neglect the present. Just like agonizing over our own mortality can do the same. You CAN do something meaningful as long as you still draw breath. That is what I get from the last lines. Don't let the truth of mortality fool you into giving up before you are forced out. "False hope perhaps, But the truth never got in my way Before now" The limited time we have is not a spectre looming it is the horizon none of us can see over. Do not rush toward it instead maximize what you are able to do now where you are. This was the first song I fell in love with on the new album... now it is Descending... who knows what it will be in the future.
This song feels good. Feels even better after multiple listens, at high volume, in my shop, while working on things that need fixin'. EDIT: You might be one of the few, or maybe the only reactor I have seen recognize Ponce De Leone in this song. It seems most people don't catch that reference right off the bat, and need to research the history.
I know you're all about the timing. If you never figured it out, I think tapping it out in what are probably 1/4 or 1/8th notes as 1231234, over and over for the majority of the song helps. I assume it's mostly 7/8. They do some crazy stuff during other parts, but it seems like a lot of 123x4 alternating between a 12 and 1234 at the end.
When a song section meanders and, for some, might seem to be going on and on and on ...... well, my guess is that they are playing with various sounds while waiting for the various polyrhythms to all sync up on "the 1" again.
@@B-Drags-Den it's in that middle breakdown section. The first part is a bass solo by Justin, then the second part of it is where the drums drop out and Danny starts on the xylophone
Now go do Ren Genesis. Lol “time is the order the lesson, time is a murderous weapon, time is a curse and a blessing, time is confined in the eye of my mind…” ❤
@@B-Drags-Den the big push’s sweet little lady both versions. Both versions of murderer both versions of animal flow I mean truly Rick you’re gonna have to do the whole catalog honey and it’s three albums the demos as a double album our boy is so talented he can’t go wrong follow the rabbit Alice follow the rabbit Alice. I do like that you also do tool and rage against the machine that’s awesome I’m here for it. Hey do you know the band Morphine? Albums are: Good., Cure for Pain., Yes., Like Swimming. They are mellow it’s drums a three string bass lol and a saxophone and sometimes the saxophonist will play two at one time! They were pretty big in the 90s. ❤️❤️❤️
@@B-Drags-Den Thanks for your reactions & opening up your thoughts & feelings about Tool. The Tool Army feels the same way! And Congratulations on the 1K subscribers! The crazy thing about this band, is there is still so much to listen & react to. We all can’t wait to experience them with you! 🤘🏻🌀
@ted1976hailspiralout I feel like whatever Tool song I react to next is not random, but rather the one that is calling me. It's weird. I think it started with Wings for Maria/10,000 days. Probably all in my head. 🌀
