I have the DLS 713 (virtually the same saw, but it is a slow speed no load 2200RPM but uses one 18V battery) as well as the DLS600. I also happen to have a Metabo KGS 216 18 LTX, which has more or less same specs as the Makita 713/714 and is also a SCMS. The Makita DLS600 is a little gem, dual bevel, laser and LED and a featherweight. Love it! The Makita DLS713, I don't know. The dual slide is a time proven concept . I had it on my Makita LS0714 - my former benchmark for a quality saw in this size bracket - and I am not worried about the longevity as such. Looking at the slow speed (2200 rpm no load) seems to indicate they went for torque rather than speed with the 713. The Makita DLS600 is 5000 rpm and the Metabo KGS 216 18 LTX is 4200 rpm. But to me the Metabo still outperforms the Makita. I have to take more time doing the cut with the DLS713 and the quality of cut is worse than with the Metabo. Original blades used: 190mm and 40T on Makita versus a well used 216mm 40T on the Metabo. Also the Makita is kind of pricey, compared to the Metabo which is considerably cheaper you get a good LED lamp as well as a Laser and the slide is a bit smoother too. The outrigger supports on the Metabo slides all the way in and does not dip under the table base as on the Makita. So far there is no scenario where the Metabo does not do a better job than the Makita. I was hoping to trim down my oufit and replace the Metabo with the Makita but to be honest it would be quite a step down. I didn't realize just how good the Metabo was until I got me the Makita DLS 713. I am very happy with the Makita DLS600 but quite underwhelmed with the 713. No laser and no LED as well as very low blade speed in this price/size category is on the low side - as is quality of cut. I will try a better blade before deciding on whether I will keep the 713 or not. Considering how well the Metabo does with one 18V battery I have no interest in a dual battery saw in this size category. EDIT: The Makita DLS714 2x18V does have higher RPM than the 713, approx 5000RPM, and is around the same price. Would I recommend the 713/714? I don’t think having two batteries tied up to one saw is the way to go when Metabo shows that even with a slightly bigger blade they can throw in a laser and a light and make it perform on par or better on ONE battery. Have a look at the larger dual battery Makita instead - and team it up with the DLS600 if you feel spendy... The Metabo 216 has slightly better cut specs and does not bog down in hardwoods, comes with a Laser and a light and cuts way better than the 713, most likely as good as the 714 (which again, has neither laser nor LED lamp) and the Metabo is HALF the price of the Makita. HALF. I run both Makita and Metabo and I was looking to replace the Metabo with Makita but realized that would have been a mistake.

Looks like it’s not will made, looks good but has issues with the quality. I think it’s worth the money right now I won’t buy it for now. Thanks for the info.

Love the channel! Reviews are great! I'm looking to invest in a cordless mitre saw, I'm invested in the dewalt lineup (5 batteries) and the makita lineup (10 batteries) so it's narrowed down to those two. A lot of the work I do is finish carpentry so I'd like to ask what the quality of cut is like? Would you recommend changing the blade on the saw? It's retailing for $1050 here in Aus, would you pay that for it? Thanks in advance! Keep up the good work, great RU-vidr!!

+Steven Marshall Thanks Steve. I have not tried any of the dewalt gear yet, but I hear there mitre saw is quite good. That said the Makita is quite powerful, so with a good blade it would work wonders. The only thing I didn't like about the Makita was the side arms that some out of the saw to extend the table, they were a little flimsy.

The corded version LS0714 produces better cuts than my Kapex which now sits on the shelf 95% of the time. Have not used the cordless version so can't comment.

I had the LS0714 for many years. Great saw! The DLS713 is nothing like it unfortunately. The DLS714 might have more grunt than the 713 but both being low speed battery mitre saws I don't think the 714 would be a real replacement for the LS0714. Build quality is great but the battery saws lack grunt. Grunt and lasers.

Impressive! How square are the cuts and what do you primarily use it for? I'm a cabinet installer looking to upgrade to this model. Would you recommend it for this?

You all need to look at the Milwaukee 7 1/4 dual bevel miter saw. It’s optimized to work with the 5A battery (one battery) capable of 600 precision cuts and weighs 28lbs. I’ve heard nothing but raving 5 star reviews! And....it only costs $399 bare tool or $499 in a kit.

Great review. I am surprised how long it ran for, seems like a decent piece of kit. Even more surprised it is made in Japan.
