I bought the same model when the 14.4v LXT platform first came on the UK market around 2005/2006. Its still in regular use and I prefer it to the newer models as its more compact and light weight, seems to take any make of collated screw where as the newer models are a bit specific as to which brand it'll take and its been adapted to run Makitas 18v LXT batteries. Perfect screw gun

What you want to do is cut the bottom part of the tip off so the screws don't hit it as they come up to firing position and you'll find it won't jam up or spit screws out

Been sheeting a good wile now and owned and used a rite few guns. Hilti was my pick. I even had a festool and it was shite. Dewalt was maybe the worst but i used this one recenly and its by far the best in my opinion. For knocks and tumbles the hilti would stand out from them but to work with im goin with the makita.

The only thing is you have to be very careful not to hit any wires or pipes. Or your own fingers/thumbs.

I use one of these every day im a 1 st fix roughing joiner, when they work there brilliant but they suffer from wear and tear. The front part has a guide to keep the screws driving straight the springs go on this and the screws start jamming and you can't repair it, this means you need to replace the front section which typically sets you back £100.
@somepunk2541
@somepunk2541 7 лет назад
Thank you for saying this. I was wondering how it handles over time.
@martinstewart688
@martinstewart688 7 лет назад
Some Punk no worries I have since found a local builders merchant who supplies Makita parts and stocks the internal front guide which only costs £20 if that helps sway your decision.

Thanks for this iam going through this issue and it's doing my head in but I have to think the money it earns its got to be worth replacing when you say the front part I assume you mean the section that slides off to change screw driver bit?.

Ceiling fixers rip them rubber ends off the head within 5 minutes of buying a new gun. Other wise, like you said it starts falling off anyway

So when the screws on the strip are depleted do you have to get an entirely new strip with special screws? Or can you just insert new screws from what you already have ?

is there a way to change the screw bit? like to use a philip tip, star tip, and flathead tip? and can it fit any size screw or is there a certain length that it can fit?
@gervasebarnes
@gervasebarnes 3 года назад
Had 1 for a few years, because it cost so much. It can be a little bitch..miss screws quite a bit..I can think of some design changes..screw feed too close, screw feed should be connected to the nozzle so it doesn't run forward and jam up on the front screws..should narrow tge front head..when it works ..mostly it's great...but..needs improvement
@duartepaintinghandymanservices
You didn't mention the weight, is it heavy? And how long does the battery last?

My old one broke . I ordered a festool . 1st none Makita tool I ever brought . Came not working . Is this genuinely suitable for daily dry lining because the old one wasn't and replacement tips don't exsist. £800 for a hilty seems to much as I do carpentry work as well . But every single pure dry liner has one . Maybe it is only real option 🤷. Edit just noticed it only goes up to 42mm . So no it isn't . How you gonna double board or triple board 🤷
@jobandknock427
@jobandknock427 2 месяца назад
Nice thing about Makitas is that the parts are inexpensive, in the main, and readily available. If you want longer screws then go for the DFR550 or DFR551 (up to 55mm screws) - which incidentally seem to be the standard models in the UK (look for a DFR542 and you'll see what I mean). For even longer screws there is a DFR750, but I personally don't do enough overboarding to justify one of those

Hello James, one question about drilling a hole into clay pipe of the old 1970 house so that I can insert a plastic pipe into it, any advice on how to do it and not crack the old clay pipe.
@OurBuild
@OurBuild 7 лет назад
kimatla You could hire a core hole machine, but could be expensive and over kill for just one hole. Personally I'd use an angle grinder with a diamond or stone disc and make a series of cuts around the shape. Most plumbing stores sell pipe repair kits and you can get rubber boots that connect the terracotta to the PVC, so that might also be worth a look. good luck.

You screwed your drywall sheets wrong. When you did the sealing. They are not suppose to end up on the same joint. It's suppose to have a brick form

Does makita have an adaptor like dewalt or hilti for the same purpose?
@jobandknock427
@jobandknock427 2 месяца назад
Makita does a collated screw adaptor, model 199146-8, for the DFS451 and DFS452 drywall screwdriver. Senco also make a collated screw adaptor for these models, model DS55-M1

Never seen anyone hang the ceiling after the walls...the walls hold the ceiling up. Hard to trust a review after seeing this.
@axelsprangare2579
@axelsprangare2579 3 года назад
It's possible with a screw gun. It's made for replacing damaged plasterboards caused by water etc. This is a specialist tool and the job can be done with an ordinary drill WITH a wall built first. But most inner roof replacers don't have a wall in their backpack...
@Samakahzi
@Samakahzi 3 года назад
Walls don't hold the ceiling up the screws and stud adhesive do

Hardwood is too tough as well will leave screw half out half of the time
@jobandknock427
@jobandknock427 2 месяца назад
@@stupify46 The corded guns will fix into hardwood plywood. I can't see why on earth anyone would want to use a collated screwdriver on real hardwood, though - surely more suitable would be to drill and countersink a hole then drive a screw

Use decent quality screws, fully depress the tool when driving, fully extend the tool when removing from the wall and don't push the tool too hard - it isn't a nail gun so it won;t work like you are bump firing a nailer. You need to learn to work at the rate the tool is happy with
