A hand vise is an excellent way to protect your fingers and your parts when cleaning with a rotary tool.

Just stumbled into your channel. Sewing machines are awesome tools. I think your demo is to show the clamp and I find jewellery tools are handy in many situations. What really surprised me at first glance, "People actually rebuild a 15 class bobbin cases?" I moved on from sewing machine repair about 20 years ago after 30 years of doing it. (Did I just show my age?) It's great of you to show people how these things work and what to do if they don't. 1 of the most common problems I used to see was the needle in wrong. I always checked a machine the moment a customer brought it in for the needle, if it's threaded right to trouble shoot before they left it. With the needle in wrong, I'd tell them right away "Let me show you why it's not working. I'd turn the needle to correct position , Thread it up and sew away. I'd also show them the correct way to thread it. Sometimes people forget. Ever tell someone their machine was threaded wrong and they reply "I've been sewing for 30 years, I know how to thread my machine!" Haha. Side note, Anyone with a 3D printer..... Doesn't need the mailman.

Much truth in that! But yes, some people WANT a vintage bobbin case to keep it all original, plus, taking them apart and reworking them is therapeutic.

Micromark carries one as a Universal Clamp, but they also sell a bunch of others in different sizes and different configurations. Thanks for sharing, though.... We like to see new gadgets and gizmos!!❤❤

I enjoy seeing all the tools you have & how you use them. I’m a nail tech, and have found a lot of nail tools are small and very precise so they can also be used in sewing machine maintenance. I use similar nail files as you, but let me suggest that if you’re going to buy very many, it will be cheaper to purchase them elsewhere. Nothing against Sally’s, I buy some things there, but there are brick & mortar stores as well as online stores that have better pricing.

True, there are cheaper places, and truth be told I go to Sally's for a couple of reasons: 1) I like to buy local, even if it's a chain and 2) one of our favorite restaurant and bars is in the same shopping plaza and I can take Liz with me and we can stop off for a steak, baked potato, and an adult beverage!

We use a vice like that for jewelry making and to hold objects for engraving. Great idea to use it for sewing machine parts!!

I was a jeweler. You can coat the pins with rubber so they can get a better grip and not damage the parts. Also you can trim one side of the pins to make them flat or concave. Or create your own odd shape pins for different shaped parts. Because round vs round doesn't hold well 🥸

What an odd tool! I’ll continue to add to my multi-year Amazon shopping list! Most recently, I added a third-hand tool for soldering. Next….alligator forceps. Oh, and I never used to buff my machine parts…until I virtually followed you. Thanks for adding extra work for me! 😂. Happy Fourth! Thank you for your service. 👏

Great idea, Bob. I have a watch case vise that’d probably work pretty well for that. Thanks as always

That too would probably work just fine. I have a watch movement holder that is a little too delicate though.
