A good example of vicarious would be people watching reaction videos. They are vicariously re-experiencing their first time listening to the song through your first time reaction. It's what fuels the popularity of reaction videos. And things like twitch TV. They get the emotional response through your emotions. Where they can't experience it themselves anymore. "It's like blood to a vampire". 😂

Synching the Spotify with the lyric vid was a pretty fuckin A+ move. ✊🏽. This band deserves the best possible sound quality.

Listen to this song (or another by Tool that catches your vibe) 50 more times or so and you start to appreciate all the nuances, every little hit on the drums Maynards voice and so on to the point of you getting overwhelmed with emotions and start to cry. It happens, sooner or later.

It's "We won't _give_ pause," not "get pause." Meaning we won't stop and think about, and maybe begin to doubt, something "until the blood starts flowing." Living vicariously means living through someone else. Maybe if you always wanted to play baseball, you encourage your kid to play, and live your fantasy vicariously by going to and watching his games. The song basically says that we all sit on our sofas and experience excitement through the TV, watching the spectacle of other people suffering violence and tragedy.

Tool is the master of controlled chaos. Each of them are usually playing different time signatures but because of the mathematics they come into synchronization at key parts of the song. They’re amazing.

Funny you should mention Terminator 2. Prior to Tool, the guitarist (Adam Jones) was an effects artist who worked on that movie. The scene where the T-1000 is shot and splits apart, Adam did the practical effects for that. He also worked on Jurassic Park.

A majority of people that like the music of Tool do not know just how advanced musically these performers are. It is crazy.

The best ways to explain the meaning of VICARIOUS is exactly wat we're doing. We are watching yr 1st experience listening to it to feel wat yr feeling again! Right? Or taking yr kids to an amusement park and seeing the joy their feeling gives you the kind of thrill their having. And MOST ppl often describe TOOLs music as controlled chaos, so yes we get it lol

CDs are great. Only way to own and archive music anymore. Once stremaing services deem a track not worth it, it will be lost forever without physical media.

Big ups for sound quality. Its evident even on our end. As a recovering audiophil-oholic, the sound is tickling that part of my brain that is an audio snob and will do nothing short of everything to opimize every sound experience. Its nice to feel something, even if its manic!

Sometimes on Spotify you can press on the microfone Icon (3rd left of the vollume icon) and read the lyrics. Sometimes it even colors the correct part of the song.

I actually downloaded Tidal just to listen to TOOL uncompressed. It makes a whole fucking difference, even compared to Spotify. Highly recommended. Also got the Airpods Max a couple weeks ago. I get goosebumps and tear up when I listen through their music like that. Just amazing.

15:15 yes, they will shift around in most of their songs, playing early or late. you also noticed that they like to overlay different rhythms which may seem unaligned, but will do so after a certain amount of bars. they base their songs on emotion, numerology, natural patterns and mysticism. you'll be pleased to know that their guitarist is a huge hip hop fan and did a collab with dälek.

My Mom would not let us watch tv except for music and old horror movies that used to be on Saturdays. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I still listen to more music than tv and all my kids do.

What i think you need to understand about this group, sometimes spelled '][' {[]} {[]} ]|_ , is that they're a group of virtuosos who found each other, can actually get along long enough to produce songs, and have such profound talent that their genre "prog-metal" doesn't do them justice. They're unique and we're so so lucky to have them.

For the first decade of my Tool loving existence, I focused mainly on Maynard. I was a singer myself, after all. The the majority of the rest of my fandom I enjoyed the band as a whole...all masters of their craft. The perfect band. These days, especially since the Pneuma drum cam, I focus a lot on Danny's drumming. My God is he amazing. He IS Tool's secret sauce. Spiral out...

With regards to Tool songwriting, it’s rather atypical in that the band puts the musical score together first. Then Maynard will listen to the score for days, weeks, months and let it speak to him while he ponders lyrics for it. That’s why so many of their songs have guitar riffs and drum hits that sync with his lyrics. He wrote it to intentionally do that.

I think you mean that the beat being off slightly off gives the effect of it being an echo which punctuates the section they want to highlight. I'm just guessing.

Drums coming in too early and off beat are polyrhythms. Tool also changes the tempo faster and slower throughout the song which most bands would say is wrong but they use it to create tension and release.
