Hello all, welcome back to the bench. Today after several requests, I'm doing a video going over the tools I use to make pedals (and other fun electronics). Enjoy!

Thanks for the video. Maybe you would consider a follow up video at some point covering the more esoteric equipment and what you might use it for. Things like signal generator, oscilloscope, lab power supply, etc.

If there are any doubters on solder's shelf-life: I am still using a spool of Kester 44 my father purchased from a welding supply shop in 1979. Flux is only slightly less effective than newer 44.

Neat soldering station, I hadn't heard of Metcal. Hakko FX-888D guy, been working great for past few years, no complaints. Can also recommend the little red-handle Hakko/CHP pliers, flush cutters, and wire strippers, all excellent. +1 for bike tool/pedal tool crossovers! Pedal building (for leisure) is meditative like wheel building, but I only need so many bicycle wheels whereas pedals...

Metcal has been the industry standard for NASA and MIL Spec manufacturing for about 30 years. You can get different temperatures by selecting different tips (They offer each size in a few different temperatures), but for this application, the tips Joe specified are good. The older models ( like Joe’s) are made better and last longer.

If you don't have a vise or third hand I drilled out a wooden block with holes at different angles tight enough for holding jack plugs, makes it easier for making guitar leads.

Awesome video, I will have to look out for that soldering system, so stoked to see you with the hakko desolder tool, it will change your life!!

The Haako Desoldering Gun is easily the best tool I’ve ever bought! (Oh and high end small needle nose pliers). I mostly do tube amps though and do lots of mods.

Great video. I don’t think the Hakko desoldering tool is overkill at all. I have not destroyed any solder pads with it at all. I have destroyed pads using solder Wick on some stubborn parts. I think it’s well worth the money.

Dear sir thanks for showing more details about germanium transistors. I've bought 2SD72, ECG103A tungstam AC127 in order to service an old stereo. All the transistors have collector to emitter leakage which causes buzzing hum noise in the output and tranststor heats up more. I need AC127 or it's equivalent with minor or no leakage. Could you help me where i can buy them. I am anticipating your kind reply sir.

I would look for the old soviet transistors on ebay. Those tend to have really low leakage. Good luck!.

@@graybenchelec Thankyou for reply sir. Indeed I found that GT404A Russian germanium NPN transistors are equivalent to the AC127 ones. If they are less in leakage I would be lucky.

How come you didn't include the Atlas DCA-75?

I guess I didn't want people to think it was required. I do have a video all on germanium testing if people are interested.

If that METCAL power supply ever bites the dust, PROMISE ME you'll turn it into a pedal and make a video of it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
