I so much appreciate your work. I’ve been carving since this spring. It’s going really well again thank you for your videos. They have helped me a lot in my journey.
Thanks for sharing a look behind the scenes. Really appreciate your authenticness and sharing tips of the trade. You are truly humble in sharing your talents.
How about a “How I sharpen and maintain my chainsaws and other tools” video. Depending on the carver, everyone seems to have their favorite bar oil. Most carvers say their favorite is the one that’s on sale! Keep the videos coming! A few step by step videos on a carving might be nice, even if you break a carving video up into a few weeks worth of videos, so you can explain it in detail.
Your answer on pricing was excellent. It never crossed my mind, but it’s kind of obvious, it does depend where you live. If your near a busy high dollar realestate area, I’m sure you can charge more, and visa-versa. I am getting near the point that I feel I could almost go full time with this too, with many thanks to Facebook. Each carving I’ve sold has caught attention of mutual friends, which in turn is going to continue to grow. I just hope I don’t ever get to the point that it’s not fun anymore!!!! Because I Love this stuff.
I purchased those bits but find they don't work for me very well so I got some saber tooth and kutsall burrs and I absolutely love them. I picked up a kutsall 4 and half inch angle grinder disk and is awesome. I took of my brake on my new stihl 193 it's a lot handier but you have to be extra careful for sure. Thanks for the tips and videos I am working on a pair of your eagles and they are looking pretty good thanks again.
Hey Chad . Cute pup we've had three golden retrievers over the last 30 years . They're an awesome dog what ever you're doing that's what they want to do to . And they love to lay in saw dust or dirt or mud or anything dirty lol . Thanks for the vid you answered most of my questions .
Heya Chad. I'd like to see you do a video on changing out the bar on a chainsaw. Maybe you could add a few chainsaw maintenance tips to that video.. like basic preventative maintenance on the saw, how to sharpen the blade, etc. Thanks for the great vids!
Thanks for the GREAT videos. I just started chainsaw carving so I really appreciate ALL you do on RU-vid. Yes.... I would like to see a video on how to CONVERT a chainsaw to a small tip carving bar. Thanks again for sharing your skills with everyone on RU-vid!!!7
@@Chainsawchad ...... Thanks for the quick reply . Enjoyed the review of the battery powered chainsaw. Hope Santa has some chainsaw goodies in his sleigh for me. Would love to see you carve a near life-size ANGEL. Got a log I could use!!!! Thanks again!!!
You read my mind! A life size angel is on my list of things to carve I just need some better weather for a good week to carve one. It my be a three part video.
@@Chainsawchad.... That is great! Have a LARGE stump (10ft) next to my pond I also could possibly use. Not sure if it it large enough in DIAMETER (21") ??? GOT MY C-Chad ALERT BELL "ON". :0)
Thanks Chad 😊that was very educational . I could not help noticing the ceiling fan blade of your house that too looked like it's carved by you - correct me if I'm wrong 👌😊. Thanks again Chad
Thanks...yes I would be interested in the Video to install a carving bar.. I have a Dewalt 40 Volt battery saw. I knew I needed a 1/4 ' sprocket and asked what was on my saw and Dewalt did not know.Anyway I would like to see what is involved in switching it out.
Does the burning preserve the carving, or do you do something else. Yes a video of changing the sprocket and chain bar would be great. Your video about equipment was very helpful, and informative. Thanks.
.. a video on changing the sprocket would be interesting I haven't needed to do that yet myself.. a video on adjusting a saw for summer vs winter would also be helpful and one on tuning a carburetor or maintenance because it's confusing.. I made a deposit today and ordered a Stihl MSA 140 C-BQ at the dealer for myself to get the 2nd battery deal going on..
I have been using black eyes or doll eyes from craft store and black marbles for bear carvings 3/8 and 1/2 inch I found work well, but that would depends on the size of carving you are working on.
Its TUESDAY Chad.Merry Christmas to you and your family!! Question: do you sharpen your own chains? What's the trick, with cedar, not chunking off, when you relief carve the headboard, and finer details, with a chainsaw?
Yes I do sharpen my own chains. You are right, cedar does chunk off. I usually use white pine for more detailed carvings. Just yesterday I was carving two Cardinals from white cedar and broke off both tails. So I called it a day. Lol.
I have a Husqvarna 240. I bought a 12" carving bar, but need to get a 1/4" pitch drive sprocket. where would be the best place to get one? just started some carving. so far two bears and a owl. i think they turned out quite well. enjoy your videos, they are very helpful.
Great video, after reading some of the comments left by other viewers I would also like to see some additional videoes of saw maintainence and of sharpening and changing blades. Also I have a question on cracks or checking in pieces that are carved, is this caused by additional drying out of the wood or is it a result of the wood being used. I have several large pieces that are developing these symptoms and not sure how to fix them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks and keep them videoes coming.
All wood cracks, there is no stoping it. It also all depends on how dry or humid it is out side. If it's inside winter may cause more cracking because your heater is drying the carving out. You can paint in the crack or fill it then paint.
I collect my wood from all over. Some I bring down from my property in the U.P, some I get form tree service companies, and some just from the area like peoples yards. But it all has to be green so there is no bugs.
Keep up the good work! Love your channel. Watched alot of your vids and every time I say the same thing, how can he top that? Then you grab up a chunk of tree and turn it into a masterpiece.👍👍✌
Hello Chad. I have seen in some of your video's when it comes to finishing a carving you pull out a nice case of assorted eyes to put in your carvings. May I ask where you get your eyes. Do you get them from a taxidermy supply shop. Great video and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching the video Dennis, the eyes I bought years ago and don't remember the name of the company. They are not taxidermy eyes, thought are to expensive for me.lol
Chainsaw Chad talking about eyes again... what would you say are the most popular sizes and colours you use the most. I’d like to try some, but I don’t want to buy any that will never use.
I get my logs from all over as long as they are green crash cut so there are no bugs. I still cut on my property in upper Michigan, and I have a supplier for cedar down near my home.
Have been a beginner for a while!! Lol. I've heard of de barking the logs so bugs don't enter , but how long do you have and how do you go about this? Curious to how you get such a good burn or paint to stick on green wood ?
The bark is debarked using a chisel and good old elbow grease. I carve them green and then dry the carving. Some logs are already dried because they have sat around for years with no bark on them.
Sorry I missed one of your questions about how long before the bugs get into the log. In upper Michigan where I lived the pine Beetles will lay eggs in the bark within three days of cutting down a live tree.
I love the puppy, unfortunately, I see too many of them after Christmas when people decide they no longer want them and they end up in the pound. I am sure that you will have thought about this beforehand and found a friend for life.
