These are all the hand tools that I use on a daily bases to install vinyl siding. Also I’m including a somewhat in depth review of how to use them and the benefits and drawbacks of each one. (90-33.75=56.25 not 66.25.... oops lol) And if my voice sounds funny it’s because I’m getting over a cold.

I really appreciate the time you spent going over your tool choices. At some point could you do a video on job cost and material estimating. Thank you!

Hi Steve, I do plan to make a video on material estimating. Job cost is a little harder because it depends where people live and what kind of lifestyle they have, but I’ll probably go over that at some point as well. More videos to come!

Having a hard time finding a solution for fastening would love to use a stapler( hard to find) do you just use 18 ga narrow crown staples for soffit? Would you use a cordless 18 ga for soffit? Model # for paslode ? Any help would greatly be appreciated. I'm on my third house nailing by hand its getting old and slow. Any help 🙏 thanks in advance. Love the way you join j channel I now use your technique. Thank you. I text you recently about finishing siding at the top of a wall where the nail flange was deep in the j channel I ended up trimming 1 inch off the bottom and silicone the pieces in place to finish the look so the nail flange wasn't exposed at the top of the wall

Hi Chris, I would use an 18 gauge staple on soffit (just note that it might not meet specifications). I only know of 1 place to get the Paslode SCS200 with a vinyl siding tip and they won’t ship. I can get one and send it out to you for $425 plus shipping (it might take a couple weeks, fyi).

@sidingschool thanks for the info after next job may take you up on the stapler. One more question if you don't mind. I noticed that you put something in your snap stand as a material holder what did you use anything specific or just whatever you can jam in there?

@audleyboyd1 For the material holder I just found a random piece of 1/2” rebar about 2’6” and threaded it through… I could only find one rebar so the other side I ripped a piece of strapping down to about 3/4”x3/4”.

Interesting set up.. I invested in a 5 gallon organizer to put like the nails, chalk line, any other tools that I don't really need till I get to a specific part..ain't trying to carry all that weight all day..

I hear you there. Despite my bags being comfortable I still have bruises. And it’s definitely worth putting chalk lines away when it’s raining, otherwise they are garbage after one day. I’m still going for speed so I prefer to keep a lot of tools on me unfortunately. Maybe some day I’ll try out the bucket idea. :)

I like your Makita Skil saw vinyl blade. You should try a diamond blade. It won’t chip your siding and it’s easier on the ears.

I tried a diamond blade once and didn’t have very good luck with it (it seemed to cut slow and was loud). Maybe I tried the wrong kind… what kind do you use? If the material doesn’t bind this vinyl blade does not tend to chip siding even at lower temps, (but you can’t force the blade through you have to let it do the work).
