A papercrafter here... I've been a paper crafter for over 20 years. The tool you held (Fisker) is a paper trimmer and it works great on cardstock. However, the one you have is not the best. Consider a Tim Holtz guillotine cutter (they come in small and large) mad by Ranger the reason you are perhaps struggling to cut thicker paper with your Fiskars is that the blade is a drag blade, which dull quickly and pulls at the paper versus much like you described in the video for using a craft knife.. the drag is a DRAG lol. You can also get rotary cutters (for your straight cutting) I would recommend a Carl brand (sturdy German made and has multiple blades you can change out for great visually interesting cutting -- wave, deckle, scallop) The other thing I may recommend is to look into is a Die cutting system. ( I recommend a Spellbinders cutting machine) If you love shapes in your collage art, you can get shapes such as circles, square, teardrop and many others intricate shapes that you can place on your images and cut perfect clean shapes. You can also get many sizes -- Tim Holtz again has a die cut set made by Sizzix that has multiple of the same size Geometric shapes so you can cut many much faster. One more tip for your circle punch is to use aluminum foil to sharpen your punch by punching several times and then use some wax paper and punch it after the foil to smooth out and make the cuts cleaner. I love your tips and am just venturing into the collage world and am excited to find your channel. I am so excited to find additional uses for my paper crafting supplies.

Hi Leah, as an older person, I use Fiskars Easy action scissors. They have many sizes, I have a small very sharp pair and they have a cutting action like secateurs. Much kinder on your hands after hours of cutting, loved your video and your work, love from Australia

This is a great, informative video - thanks much! I smiled when you said you recently discovered your paper cutter had a ruler! So many times I’ve used something and then later found out it has “other features!” Always learning, right? Really appreciate all the good info in this video! Thanks, Kathleen

It's so funny buying something from a store and never thinking to look it up. It wasn't until a few comments and looking at the Amazon product review that I figured it out 😂 cheers, to learning! Glad you enjoyed.

Leah this was a great video, really inspiring and I know it will inspire other collage artists new to the art or more established. I like that you talk from a perspective of a working artist,I agree you need yo think about the longevity of your finished pieces and use materials that will ensure this.(matt)P.s am still being inspired by your October art prompts list.

@@flanzella going back to basics is a really good idea, and you have the perspective of a working artist talking from experience and people can really relate to that especially other artists.I as usual created a board on my Pintrest page to post all the pieces I'm creating for the October prompts,up to just over 80 pieces so far and still going.if you have some time take a look and let me know what you think (Matt)

Hello everyone at Flanzella...I like to use Nori paste (thin with water), acid free, and slower drying for repositioning. It is great for tissue/thin fragile/delicate papers. The products you mentioned? I recognize many of them, and many are ones I like to use. Thank you for this helpful video. I especially liked your advice on small brush and thin coatings.

Great info! I am brand new to this and am super excited as I have been wanting to find a way to incorporate ephemera and family stories into art. Also, I am an amateur enthusiast photographer and use Luminar Neo which has some features like photoshop at a cheaper price.

I love midjourney and firefly on the digital side, I use these to create original works than can then be printed out. Once printed out I treat them just like any other paper in my stash.

@@flanzella To some degree, it’s still a graphical slot machine at the moment. Which is a big part of what I’m love about it, the happy accidents are more interesting to me. The majority of images I work with get digitised and printed(real or ai) so the go on a compatible paper, as I work with encaustic most magazines are incompatible with the medium.

Hi this was super good! I’ve been trying out collage (also with vintage magazines) but for the life of me I cannot get it to not wrinkle and bubble! Even with a tool to roll and spread it on it seems to always happen… any additional tips? Your work is great!

Thanks so much. That's tough! I've heard people glue their pieces to thicker paper before cutting it up to help keep it flat. If you want to just go the traditional route, I try to start at one side and slowly glue it part by part to ensure it's perfect before moving to the next part.
