They need to have a channel dedicated solely to replay these EXACT runs. Nothing changes. They should even play commercials from the late-90s and early-00s.
I gotta say 'bumps' guy for Toonami was ahead of his time. Using anime shorts coupled with precise kinetic animations and musical synchronicity was quite timeless.
i'm happy i got to live and grow up in this era, this is a beautiful thing to look back on. I remember how peaceful things were back then. Times have changed :/
22 years ago Toonami started… The internet was new and it was the golden age of Flash and Anime, the web was full of silliness and innocence and all of us were younger and perhaps less jaded… Let us look back to that Golden age and reflect on what once was.
This was THE best anime late night cartoon show ever.Seriously the longer it ran the better it got.I miss this awhole lot anyone remember Tenchi Muyo? that was a crazy show lol.
Toonami was how I even learned about Sailor Moon. Granted the dub aged like milk but man does it still hit me in the feels. Hell, it was how I learned about anime in general with Sailor Moon, DBZ, Zoids and of course, Gundam. And I still remember when Transformers Armada premiered.
I think there’s a Toonami rhythm game that came with this album. It’s where you play as TOM 2 and you run through obstacles to the beat of the music. It’s a bit like Vib Ribbon, but with Toonami.
Decades later, and this still hits me like it used to, making me excited for the wonders of anime. There was just something so different about that world of animation, and Toonami hyped it up perfectly....
The Toonami creators were going to have multiple designs for TOM, he was going to be part of a band consisting of a rabbit drummer, a monkey bassist, a chicken guitarist, and an AI keyboardist who would later become the second version of Sara. Along with this, he was going to wear a Playboy bunny costume, and then have a human girlfriend named Hecate.
I like the new intros but I hope in the future the intros will be more like this again 0:30 or 9:34 or different. Nice vid, it brings back memories and the new toonami's also making new memories for us. It keeps getting better and better :)
Great time in life and history! I’ll always remember coming home from school after trading Pokemon cards and having to choose between watching Pokemon and DBZ. I’ll never forget all the great anime that I was introduced to. Reboot was great too!
That was the great time that my brother and I watched Toonami back then when the program was in it's prime. Reboot, Sailor Moon, Dragon Ball Z, Yu Yu Hakusho. Oh man so many great action cartoons and anime that we watched when we was were kids. The best period ever that Toonami had it's A game on when the program used to be on weekdays.
For me adding DBZ to the lineup made this block better than before. Feel it peaked when it went to three hours and just didn’t feel quite the same when they got rid of most the shows I liked watching. Even when the added the third hour back there were only three shows on the lineup.
Look at how much its grown from this in 1999 to the peak with TOM 3... It gives me hope that it can grow to at least, a good portion of its former glory :)
Man I freaking LOVED Reboot, that was my show! But at 5 you dared not miss DBZ! And Tom, the instrumental remixes, and atmosphere of Toonami fit so perfectly, you knew this wasn't the normal cartoon block hour.
Um In that time, when changed Moltar to Tom Love the Changes adding NEW SHOWS 1999 - 2000. Outlaw Star, Tenchi Muyo, The Gumdam Shows, Reboot, Batman Superman Animated Series, Midnight RUN. Tom being the new Host. Greatest times Ever! There's Nothing going to be like this Ever Again.

Drum n bass, named after a tsunami..... I'm genuinely surprised the name hasn't been changed or come under fire yet. I'm sure it'll come. It took em a few decades to get aunt jemima so we'll see
OMG Reboot, i could not remember the name of that show to save my Life. but man i miss the old Toonami, but it is back and with even more Anime now. so i am fine with that, but i can bet the old Toonami.
Was def there for this.... miss that Kenshin hype back then... 100% responsible for my love of anime... lived for this after school... had to move on to subs though, sooo much better!
Wow! So many promos from the golden era of Toonami! I haven't seen most of these finds since they aired and some I've never seen at all. Toonami was the only place i remember encouraging kids to stay up past their bedtime, haha. I only wish this wasn't stretched. You can fix this using most editing software.
My rumor is that TOM 1 was not voiced by Sonny Strait, but a computer which used voice samples to sound like him. This is because TOM 1 spoke in a high pitched voice which sounded a bit like Vocaloid.
