The main inspiration for the Eds was the Greek Myth of Sisyphus, who was punished in Greek Hell by being forced to push a boulder up a hill for his freedom, only to have it roll out of his grip and down the hill every time he makes it near the top. They can’t win. If they win, the show ends.

Also the Ed’s were totally inspired by The Three Stooges (Curly, Moe and Larry) as well as three kids that Danny Antonucci was aware of during his youth.

I think it’s fair to say, half of the Eds’ failures are because of each other. Ed’s stupidity, Double D’s paranoia, Eddy's lack of judgment or foresight, or a combination of the three.

Ed swallowing the teeth reminds me of when I lost my first tooth. I didn't even know I lost it until my mom pointed out I had a tooth missing. I didn't feel it fall out or anything! We think I might've swallowed it by mistake because what other explanation was there?
