Top 10 Atari 7800 Games According to Facebook!

These games were selected by taking in the top 5 games from Atari 7800 ProSystem Gamers Facebook Group, Atari 7800 Forever Facebook Group, and the AtariAge Facebook Group. They submitted their Top 5 games and then I gave them a score from 5 to 1. Their number one game got 5 points, number two got 4, number three got 3, number four got 2, and number five game got 1 point. I then added the points after 2 days to come up with this list.
All gameplay was recorded by me using real hardware. I use clearclick capture card and Retro Selector 2x line doubler to increase resolution. The console is hooked up using composite video.

Hey guys im going through all my old videos and leaving "directors comments" as a treat for anybody rewatching. So this idea for this list actually came from the Atarian Magazine and I have a whole video on that mag actually too. They used to have a section called the top 30 where people would mail in and give them their top 2600, 7800 and XEGS games and they would score based on where they were on your list and how many people voted for them. I used their same exact scoring. I used to do Opinion Time on the Facebook group Atari 7800 Forever and I would feature a different game each time and ask for feedback. Then i did an opinion time poll as a sort of off shoot and there was a great response! Over 50 people responded which was incredible given that i was some rando, but people love giving their opinions. If i ever get a huge following and can get 100s or even 1000s of feedback I plan on doing this again! So stay tuned!

Surprised Commando, Mrs Pac Man and Ballblazer didnt make the top ten. Its so many great games on the 7800. Its my favorite system in the 3rd Generation.

I was honestly shocked too but I think a lot of homebrew pushed those off the list. Galaga should not be as high as it was but the people spoke...

Always liked this console for it's arcade ports. I understand many of them were late and even dated games but many of them never looked better on a home console. Quite a few of the arcade ports even blew the NES versions out of the water. Cannot say that about Double Dragon.

The 7800 was a very capable system and could do a lot that the NES couldn't do as well and vice versa obviously. The arcade ports were excellent, for people that wanted the arcade at home the 7800 was great!

The homebrews got a strong showing in this list, and I'm glad to see Food Fight get the respect it deserves. Surprised that Joust didn't even get into honorable mention territory, as many seem to consider it the best home version of the game for any system.

Yes Joust is beloved for the 7800 and I used to hear a lot of people say Ballblazer was their favorite 7800 game. What I think has happened is a ton of great homebrews came out and people are forgetting about the old favorites a bit. But regardless the list shows that the 7800 has a strong library since excellent ports weren't even mentioned!

I remember voting on this one. How did Alien Brigade manage to crack the top 10? That game sucks! Bummer Baby Pac-man missed the list. People are missing out.

Thanks for voting and watching. I made a mistake initially and triple checked the numbers. I do personally think baby pacman deserves a spot but people seem to love alien brigade.

Right I love pole position II! But I'm sure a lot of the fantastic homebrew pushed a lot of the originals off the list and that's okay. Maybe one day I'll do another poll just for retail and just for homebrew...

Fun fact the developers at GCC nicknamed asteroids "meatballs in space" because when they were making it at one point all the asteroids were red and looked like meatballs! And yes these are fantastic versions! Be sure to play Robotron 2084 in dual stick mode!

Dang, Centipede and Midnight Mutants didn't make the list? 7800 has the best console version of centipede hands down. Midnight Mutants not only pushes the graphics and TIA sound capabilities, it's also a fine adventure game I'd put up against any similar game on NES or Master System.

I'll admit I was expecting games like ballblazer to make the list too but the voting surprised me. I'd like to do it again when my reach is much larger so I can poll maybe 1000 people instead of just 50

I don't know man. No love for Ballblazer, Joust, Xenophobe, Dark Chambers, Ms. Pac Man. I don't think I'm down with the Facebook Atari community.

I think you have to consider all the great homebrew that's knocked a lot of classics down the list for a lot of people. Donkey Kong PK/XM, Frenzy, Dragons Havoc, Petscii Robots, Pac Man Collection, Bentley Bears Crystal Quest, and more. If you count homebrew (even just from Atariage) the library has been doubled in size! That said I did expect games like Ballblazer and Ms Pac Man to do better but the fans of Facebook spoke and think it's a decent list. A much larger sample size will yield different results I'm sure, I had about 50+ participants on Facebook. Maybe my RU-vid audience could make a better list now?

@@TheAtariNetwork Yeah, I guess. I don't personally count homebrew as an actual part of a console library even though the quality of homebrew across all systems has really increased over the years. The one exception I have made though is good fan translations. I have a lot of catching up to do now, but up until around 4 years ago I had every NES fan translation which added just over 400 games we never got here in the states if you include the FDS disk translations. Many of those were never ported to the US for good reason, but there's probably around 30 or so that would have been considered classics today if they had. Real life got in the way of my emulation hobby, but I always intended to go back to the Atari 2600/5200/7800 and see all the new stuff people created. Last time I was involved at all with that somebody had made an amazing 2600 Pac-Man that really put the official release to shame.

I know there is a new rom on AtariAge with the bug fix and new carts might have the bug fix. But if you have a PRGE or first run cart there is definitely a bottle glitch that cousin Vinnie over at atari7800forever.com found! Good point!
