It's so heartwarming for the show to offer counselling to real life Aberfan disasters. It shows that understanding of mental health issues has come a long way since 1966.
It's sad because they did not do that for the victim's families with the Dahmer drama series, they copied their court moments exactly and made them relive their trauma after watching the show.
She should have been paid equally to Matt Smith from the start. I knew her prior to taking the role. She was in Wolf Hall where she portrayed Ann Boleyn and she did a wonderful job in that. And Woman Talking as Salome. This is just ridiculous that the pay disparity continues!
I should have guessed that Diana and her pals celebrating her Royal engagement was improvised, since they all looked liked they were having a ball, and their joy seemed natural. Also, singing the British National Anthem was the cherry on top of the cake! 🍒😂
Buts it's not about that. You pay people in shows and movies not for their role but for their drawing power. I only started watching The Crown because I saw Matt Smith was in it but since then I've started to pay attention to the roles Claire Foy is picking up to see if any of them interest me. This wasn't about gender.
@@mattsmith1859 Exactly, I had intended to watch The Crown, but kept putting it off. When I found out Matt was in it, I finally decided to start watching. He literally was my reason to start watching. Foy is great, but she's wasn't a draw (before). Now that I know how good she is, I'll be more inclined to watch her stuff.
Its all about contracting and drawing power. Claire Foye WAS newer in the acting scene, while Matt Smith has been a draw for decades. Matt Smith has the power to ask for more money in his contracts due to his star power. Claire Foye will be able to do so too once she has more experience under her belt.
I think all the actors in the crown are tryimg their best to respectfully try to protray them as best they can. We need to remember they do not write the script. Some events are real but some are fictional like the Queen meeting her PM at the time. Love every series but I know not everything is factual but I understand why the Royal family are worried the series can effect how people feel about them 😕
I wouldn’t go so far as to say bras are “incredibly” comfortable. I’m in my 60s, and have yet to find any style of bra or cami that I didn’t want to throw off (like women’s dress shoes) as soon as I walked in my house. I know men feel the same about ties.
I think Matts gender had nothing to do with his being paid more. He was paid more because he’s popular and would draw in views. Everyone knows Doctor Who, he’s an accredited actor and led a successful series for 2 seasons. Many people ( especially us here in America) had to be introduced to who Clair Foy was. To think that it’s offensive that he was paid slightly more is wild. Imagine paying a new teacher the same price as one who’s been teacher for years. Like any career , you work your way up when it comes to pay.
I agree and I imagine he was paid less than Helena Bonham Carter, despite the fact that she is a woman, since she is a huge celebrity with many more years of experience in the industry.
This is my thought on that pay gap too. I’m sure Helena got paid nearly twice as much as Matt since she’s a seasoned veteran. It’s only a gender pay gap if all the women are paid less not just one.
Wait... I thought it was common practice for Hollywood to pay the more experienced/popular actor more money than the newbie actor, regardless of screen time differences. In Superman 1 (1979), Marlon Brando got a lot more money versus Christopher Reeve.
It is unfair she was paid less: the star is THE QUEEN and she also has more screen. The rest is simply nonesense people say in order to justify the unacceptable.
The series is called "The Crown", not "The Queen". And it's the same in every industry: whoever as more experience gets paid more. And honestly, her salary must have been scandalously high anyway.
Edward Milward only died in April 2020 and lived to see his portrayal on screen. Both of Tommy Lascelles' real life daughters were also still alive when the show first aired - one died on November 3rd 2020 and the other is still alive aged 95. They would have seen Pip Torrens bring their father (who in reality died in 1981) to life on screen and I wonder what they thought of it. And without spoiling too much, Season 5 has a lot of cameos, probably because it was intended to be the final run. There are also references to modern events and pop culture peppered throughout the series. Season 5 has a direct reference to the modern Ukraine war, even talked about how Russia is faltering and not doing too well as Yeltsin shakes off the last of communism (it's an obvious nod to Putin's Russia getting rekt).
Who? We had season 1/2 cameos, but I don't remember any of the season 3/4 actors returning. To be fair, I did doze off at times, so I might have missed it. lol That is not a knock on the series, though this was easily my least favorite of the 5. I was just really tired over the weekend while I watched. 🤣
A bit more behind the scenes trivia: the gold ball that was in the coronet that was placed on the Prince of Wales' head at his investiture was actually a gold painted ping pong ball. "In the centre of the arch is a monde (which is actually a gold-plated ping-pong ball." credit to wikipedia
Intimate scenes is something no one would want to see in this. Even if it made us believe that's where it was going. Same as a scene with the Queen and Philip
Matt Smith was arguably underpaid as Doctor Who. I seem to recall he got the same for a whole series than David Tennant was getting per episode. It's all to do with profile and what fees you can command. I'd never heard of Claire Foy before The Crown, but she's now hugely famous and can command higher money for better roles in the future.
@@halfbakedproductions7887 tbf I don't think many people watched The Crown because of Matt Smith. It was the characters that brought commercial success to the show.
No one said anything when in the movie Passengers jennifer got paid more then Chris Prat despite chris being the main character and bigger star. Funny how it only when woman get paid less that it's a big deal.
Oh come on, how crazy does that make Helen B Carter sound, saying that Princes Margret show up as a spirit giving Helen her blessing. Does she really think that is what is going on in the after life.
Season 5 ends with Blair being elected and Britannia being decommissioned, but with Diana still alive. There is a bit of licence because, in reality, Britannia was finally axed in December 1997 after Diana had died. They've already cast an adult William and a Kate Middleton for Season 6, so that's 2001 when they went to university. The show will probably cover 9/11, it'll definitely cover the deaths of Margaret and the Queen Mother, then probably the Golden Jubilee the same year seeing as a Season 5 episode mentioned that specifically. I don't think there's much of note after that within a reasonable timeframe, so the summer of 2002 is probably a good time to wrap it up.
Not the "uncomfortable" corset narrative again, please (8:59). It isn't the most pressing of matters, but still, annoys me. A corset is only uncomfortable when isn't cut properly, it's supposed to fit the body, not the other way around, and that's why it must be tailor-made. A corset can't be taken off a rack, or worn without the proper garments, or shaped poorly for aesthetic reasons, of course it'll hurt otherwise. Unfortunately that's exactly what they do for most TV and film productions, but that's hardly the corset's fault.
Yes, I remember reading something about one actress, not sure who it was, who refused to wear a corset for her role in a period piece, and how poorly fit her costume looked in the movie. I’d say Kiera Knightly in Pride and Prejudice but I’m not sure. Whoever it was, get over yourself
@@rachelgarber1423 Oh, several actors became vocal about this at a certain point, and whilst probably a slice of their grievance was tied to the (inaccurate) representation of the corset as a misogynistic tool, I wouldn't be surprised if they had to wear horrible corsets on set. As I mentioned, designing ill-fitted corsets to save money, to push those tatas out, and so on, is pretty standard for the industry. Having those things with no undergarments on, pressed directly on the skin for hours and hours at times I'm sure is nightmarish. They were right to get mad, but they should have aimed at the costume designers' head, not the corsets.
I understand, but look at the context. Claire Foy had to wear a corset to be able to fit in a dress after giving birth. This does not sound comfortable, although it was necessary for her to emulate the Queen at the time.
You forgot the following - Accurate reenactment of King George VI's lung surgery - Claire's costume adjustment (she is flat chested in real life, unlike her character who was a busty woman in her younger years and Claire needs to padded up) - Princess Margaret's "Imelda Marcos" line
I mean that's fucking sexist. Claire flloy did the hard part and a big role in the show if they did not want to cast a new commer to in the leading role, they should not have opted for another actress. Even if Tom Holland was not famous than Zendaya at the time of casting, would zendaya get a higher salary in a movie like spiderman. People should be paid for the part they play in a movie. It is cast directors responsibility to cast the right actresses, if they dont want a new commer. Claire floy did an amazing job in the drama. I hope she got paid later.

Maybe paying Claire less than Matt was also a bit deliberate, given its meant to be quite a strained and resentful relationship. It's kinda thing I'd do, get a bit of real life emotion into the on screen. And save a few quid.
I am a little disappointed that Ms. Mojo misrepresented a "gender pay gap" when thats not how acting works. Matt Smith is more popular, and had the ability to ask for more money. Claire Foye just wasn't experienced or popular enough to demand the same in the beginning. They only folded *after* people started the whole "gender pay gap" argument, which can be easily proven false with basic research. Don't spread false narratives, it hurts women more than it helps.
Personally I found the actor who played Antony Armstrong Jones dull in the so called "steamy" scenes. He didn't seem to have any chemistry with his female co-stars.
Hahahaha so stupid, Clair Foy was unknown 🤣 would they give her some royalties bc of th succes but as a first bet .. is not reasonable to pay the same for an unknown actress
It is not a disparity if someone of greater renown gets higher pay, and it is not a gender pay gap... Bravo using buzzwords to bring up a stupid opinion.
