Man, Prey even just the scenes where she's throwing her axe at trees. The sound of the axe flying and the impact with the tree are night and day. 100% video and audio both are very noticeably improved.
@DrakonR copium? Oh jesus.... so you're definitely the console wars type too then? Your life must be fucking miserable bro. lol Which plastic box do you shill for? The tragedy of thinking shitting on things is a substitute for an identity or a personality...
@DrakonR Art is subjective. At the end of the day, who cares anyway. The story being good or bad doesn't take away from how good the visuals and audio are.
Great list ! Glad you got to enjoy some great physical titles!! Keep collecting sir!! My personal favorite of this whole year is definitely Oppenheimer. When I rewatch some thing multiple times, I know it is eye candy. The IMAX scenes were amazing and the dialogue was clear.
Awesome video Adam! “2023 It’s…eh…been a year.” Cracked me up. I can’t wait to get my atmos set up next year. And revisit these films. Thanks for an awesome post. Looking forward to 2024
I’m new here and glad to Know your channel 👍 I trusted you on THE OTHERS for his sound design and just ordered it right after your review😊….I can’t wait to hear that damned ATMOS 😮
1. Avatar Twow 2. John Wick 4 3. Oppenheimer 4. Gran Turismo 5. All quiet on the western front 6. Barbie 7. Super Mario bros 8. Babylon 9. MI: DR 10. The Equalizer 3
My favorite movie release has been Ronin(1998), a movie I can repeat word for word without watching 😂. This movie had great acting & one of the best car chase scenes
If you want to hear how incredible John Wick Chapter 4 sounds check out the start where he’s punching the rope thing. My goodness I had bottles the other side of the room clanging “warriors come out to play” style! 😄
I was really disappointed with All Quiet on the Western Front. Audio was so-so, video is OK I guess. Oppenheimer was mindblowing though. I was even more impressed with the A/V that when I watched it at Imax (dont think it was 70mm). John Wick visuals are stunning for sure.
The Fugitive 4K uhd and the Fargo 4K uhd waiting for 2024 the Crow from 1994 and the Abyss 1989 4K uhd relase thx for your great job from this side of the globe Miki Budapest Hungary 🇭🇺🇺🇸
lol I think it’s funny how 2 of your best ended up on MidLevel’s worst with Evil Dead Rise and Mission:Impossible. I was surprised on how good Expendables 4 looked, just wish it was a better movie.
My top 10 is 1.john wick 4 2.gran tourismo 3.the convenant 4.transformer rise of beast 5. Avatar way if water 6.65 7.evil dead rise 8.equilizer 3 9.air force 1 10.blue beatle
All quiet on the Western Front is exceptional. The movie is so realistic. Best WW I movie ever made. You realized how terrible this foolish war was. So many young men died on both sides.
Prey looks excellent on my Panasonic 820 paired with my Sony 4k TV- The movie itself I thought interesting- Although some may say it's a Predator rip off
Adam, I luv ya but the audio for Oppenheimer could've been better. It was really good for 5.1 but I would've preferred Atmos because it's noticable but nonetheless really good. But accept for about 3 different parts in the movie, my subwoofer was pretty impotent. I have a great setup so it's not that. Being mostly a drama with tons of dialogue it's good for what is but one of the best of the year audibly is misleading, imo. I'm definitely going to pick up Prey and MI because of this episode though.😎
You forgot to mention that on "All quiet on the western front" the Dolby Atmos is only valid with German Language and English Subtitles. ( at least that's how is on my copy of this fantastic movie).
The only part of "Fall out" thats looks better than "Dead Reckoning " is the Imax sequence in the end. Overall Dead Reckoning is a better looking movie. Bravo for "All quiet on the Western front" Love the realism of the German subtitles. OPPENHEIMER is a masterpiece, cinematography on both are exceptional! John Wick 4 left me speechless. Titanic should be in the top 10
HAPPY NEW YEAR, OK: I have Fast X, have not watch yet, I have Volume 3 Have not watch yet., Have Prey have not watched yet, I have Dead Reckoning, have watched yet, I have Expendables 4 have not watch yet, Both 4k Avatar have not watched yet, [ only seen the Avatat1 on BluRay , I have All the Wicks on 4k Have not watched 4 yet, Okay watched Western Front Very Good, we talked about Oppenheimer lol and two subs lol watched and wow.
I will argue with you on the sound design for Oppenheimer. I think good movie and good visuals is causing you and many others to be bias and over look how lacking the sound design is. We will start with the LFE and how truly strong it is and how it hits you from the beginning. The LFE is too strong and overused. Overused to the point by the the time they get to the bomb test there is nothing left to differentiate from everything before to create the impact it could of had. You may say it is my subs and I am running out of juice. Well I have two PSA S3000i and one PSA XS-30se (total of 5 15" drivers) controlled and tuned with a MiniDSP and REW in my 7.3.4 setup and can hit 105db at 5Hz. Great if you love bass but poor use to build the tension and slam with the bomb scene. You give to much credit to the insistence of the 5.1 track. Sorry that is unacceptable with today's audio. Atmos has been in theaters for over a decade now and the home for what seven years? Back to the bomb scene and think what could have been done with the Atmos channels? Think about the scenes out in the New Mexico desert and what wind atmos subtly done could do to immerse you. All the subtly of suburban sounds the echo of being in those brick buildings of the classroom. While considerably better than most of Nolan's films, Dialogue could have been better. It is a heavily dialogue driven movie after all. Nolan's dialogue always comes across as muffled. No argument, the movie is great, acting stellar, visuals amazing, but audio is not even better than 2000's only on DVD Titan A.E. animated film.
I think 2024 going forward is going to be a difficult time to review discs. Why? Easily over 90% of movies coming out now look and sound great. We are sitting here only wondering if something is going to be a good, great, or outstanding visual/sonic experience. So the only real review with value, in terms of reviewing quality, is letting viewers know if a release is subpar or just bad (i.e. T2, American Graffiti). Again, that is 10% of discs or less. Notice the number of stars given to quality ratings at High-Def Digest in the last two years. It is 4. 4.5 or 5 for almost everything. As for reviewing the movie itself, that will always have value, but when reviewing quality, today and going forward we are really talking around the edges. Reviewers I think will have to talk about something else than just quality.
To a degree that’s true, but older catalog releases still are subject to a more discerning eye and ear for disc quality. I’ve already scaled back my new movie release 4K disc reviews for that reason.
In no order: MIDRP1 is def on my list, but I enjoyed Love Actually as well (I need to watch it again; I picked it up for Xmas and was surpised at your review). CBA with Expendables at all so didn't buy. Titanic is my best, it's how I want it to look and sound, GT looks and sounds ace, but... not for me and I'm a gamer... Oppenheimer is in my list but it pisses me off that Nolan doesn't like Atmos. I watched the first Avatar for the first time this year and ATWOW is in a selector for the new year. It's runtime scares me... All quiet is so fucking good! I'd have it about 2-5 and might need to go and watch it right now - it's that good - but the dub kicks it down a bit for me. GOTG3 is great as a disc as well. JW4 is a surprise! Titanic is my 1, only Hobbit 1 beats. But I'm gonna go watch JW4 now. Happy Xmas/NY etc
I see you lean towards Dolby Atmos... Myself a Movie Collector as well... Yeah, it's important to have a great picture and great sound effects... But I'm still all about watching & enjoying a great movie 🎬 for the movie... Most great movies these days are a hit and a miss... Since the 90,s I bet they haven't made over a 50 great movies period... Having HDR 10, and Dolby Vision, and Dolby Atmos, is Awesome... But if the story line sucks... Who cares about the rest of what it has really who cares... Only the ones that are promoting the sale that's it... And trust me, they hype every movie, & 75% or garbage story lines, period... But Hey if Dolby Atmos is all, you need to enjoy your movie... 🎬 Turn it up Up UP... 😆 🤣 😂
I’m a movie fan first but this is a channel that focuses on 4K physical media and its aspects, both visual and audio. Even if a movie is a turd, it’s inconsequential when talking about the disc quality. Somewhere, someone likes that movie and is genuinely interested in the disc. That’s what I cover.
