Fun fact about beast claws, when it’s transformed it’s jump attack has you do this drill attack where you launch yourself at the ground, and it’s faster than most charged attacks, and that will do the same thing as a fully charged heavy when you hit an enemies back. So you can in fact get backstabs with the beast claw
A note about the Burial Blade: While it is true you can only get the base version near the end of your run, if you're willing to delve into the Chalice Dungeons you can buy an Uncanny or Lost version. I used an Uncanny one for most of my skill play through and it was amazing to use
Weapons in Bloodborne are just beautiful. In Elden Ring, everyone just keeps talking about stance damage, motion values, FP costs, damage types etc... In Bloodborne, every single weapon will have somebody who loves it, just based on moveset alone. My personal favourites would be the burial blade and the Rakuyo (the sharks really aren't that bad btw, you can just parry them.) But there is a reason to get genuinely excited about every single weapon, without having to look at any of the numbers. And you can get the majority of them after only killing 2 Bosses.
well yeah when the base game has like 10 weapons you gotta make them really good compared to the game with 300+ (excluding dlc which adds like 100 more) and what you said literally applies to elden ring aswell, every weapon will have somebody who loves it and taking into consideration the countless ashes of war you literally have infinite combinations
@@N0MotionIn Elden Ring, weapons usuallly does just one thing or two at best while BB weapons does multiple things at once so they’re far more interesting and fun
trick weapons are what got me into fromsoft they are the best by far but that’s bloodborne’s thing it wouldn’t fit in every game besides it’s nice to have variety they each have their thing.
@@kim-xo very nice actually, it outputs a lot of damage. Unfortunately I can't visceral after the transformed charged R2 attack. As for the untransformed charged R2, it's pretty quick
At the end of this series, could you do a ranking of your top 10 favourite weapons across the series? Not like, for each game just one video where you rank your favourite souls weapons. You can even include Kusabimaru if you want. Or more than 10 weapons if you want.
For Pve the Holy macaroni moonlight greatsword is the best in most situations. Has physical, slashing damage, arcane and projectiles. It's tranform attack from arcane to physical, just slam most thing, the L2 send flying. And has one of the best smooth and useful movesets in the game. The cons are is hard to obtain for a newbie, is late in the game, and you has to invest on arcane limited to use some strength or the Ludwig blade, and the awesome scythe.
the amygdala transformed running r2 never gets old, honestly bloodborne weapons are so much fun to use that i actually tend to learn how to optimize their movesets more weapons then other soulsborne titles
How i feel this instant: 10: Tonitrus 9: Blades of Mercy 8: Simon's Bowblade 7: Boom Hammer 6: Threaded Cane 5: Church Pick 4: Holy Moonlight Sword 3: Ludwig's Holy Blade 2: Stake Driver 1: Beasthunter Saif Oh, I think Beasthunter Saif is pretty different from the other short range mezzaluna/bar-handled cleavers even untransformed. Seems similar, but not quite, got lots of attacks that move you around yet more than the others untransformed, mitigating the range issue, surprisingly good range. And the Saif is a whole different beast with reference to the transformation because they can get you in and get you out with good damage, range and speed. That transformation is why a Beasthunter Saif fan is a Beasthunter Saif fan. It's a dance. That weapon stuck with me, it's the fivehead's weapon of choice, or perhaps the coward's. Nothing is commited. You can disengage whenever. Or you can rush in and thrash your enemies at a moment's notice. Or you can play keep away with the big range mode.
As this is the from software game I've played the most, I have the strongest opinions about this game's weapons. Gotta say, the list was pretty spot on! the moonlight great sword is kind of annoying to get the good gems for, and I actually haven't used the church pick much. The only weapon I feel was missing was the bloodletter. Sure, it takes a chunk of health to transform, but that transformed R2 is so insane! It also swings faster than I feel like it should for how big it's swings are. Just an awesome weapon to use. But I agree with whirligig being #1. It's my personal favorite too!
Bloodletter is definitely missing from this list imo. Having used both the chikage and it, it's basically "what if chikage, but twice as long?", and is as murderous as that sounds. I personally also think the rifle spear belongs here, because its untransformed R1 chain is all thrusting damage and is just stupid good, and the transformed R2 is one of the best charged R2's in the game if you ask me.
I think you did the Beast Hunter Saif a little dirty. Not that it necessarily belonged on the list but it's vastly different from the two saws. The core of its moveset is moving in and out of range with the transformation attacks and the untransformed light attack. It doesn't get the Serrated modifier so no extra damage to beasts, but it probably doesn't need it. Very stylish and versatile weapon (has access to all damage types!). Either way good vid.
I miss the fluid animations of bloodborne. The movesets just look way less stiff than even some elden ring weapon classes. One of many available examples is scythe, why don't we have that kind of moveset for scythes in their later games? I know sony owns the ip, but it's not like fromsoft couldn't make something *like that ever again?
Elden Ring is just stiffer in general, first i thought it was in my head, but then i replayed DS3 and no. The gameplay in DS3 is just way faster and smoother, idk why they changed that in Elden Ring.
Yeah exactly! Where it's most noticable imo is in the basic ashes. To understand what I mean, look at spinning slah on curved greatswords in ds3, versus how clunky and slow it is in elden ring@@kimashitawa8113
An important tip for the Chikage: don't use the transform attacks, they're too slow. The best way to use the blood part of the weapon is to press L1 first and then R1 while the sword is sheathed, this does a special fast horizontal swipe that does about 50% more damage (iirc) than a normal transformed R1. It's pretty easy to do too, the animation of sheathing the sword and bathing it in blood is pretty long, and throughout all of it you can press R1 to get this attack. You should definitely try to use the blood part most of the time, it's the best damage type in the game. Transformed Chikage damage with the right gems is op
Honestly transformed chikage *without* the right gems is op. It does an absurd amount of a damage type basically nothing resists extremely quickly- out of all my runs, my bloodtinge chikage and bloodletter runs were easily the ones that felt the most like I was breaking the game.
@@three6jay Frankly I never fussed over the gems much but anything that increases blood damage since the transformed version, which you should always be using and only scales of bloodtinge, only does that type. And yeah, it's absolutely stupid in PVE. A run where you just use the hunter's axe until you can get the chikage, pump bloodtinge up to 50, and go from there? You just destroy everything left in the game. The only remotely difficult thing is detransforming the sword strategically in between openings so you can manage the hp loss.
Chikage paired with Evelyn is really fun to use, I've parried everything in the game, dealt a lot of dmg and it appeared to me that the trasformed blood infused version does bleed dmg like the new fromsoftware games, it's insane
The holy moonlight sword is the most absurd weapon in the game, it does everything Ludwig's sword does two handed while one handed. There is basically no recovery between uncharged R2s, so either stunlock with horizontal R1s or do better damage than the pizza cutter with multiple R2s
As you mentioned yourself and in the comments, all bloodborne weapons are amazing (maybe except the cane). It also comes down to how many hours you wanna spend farming the best and optimal gems for specific builds.
Funny thing about the Rakuyo-if you use a dedicated strength build and used cursed abyssal heavy blood gems, it actually outclasses the damage that you’d get if you went dedicated skill. Kinda stupid, since it’s a SKL weapon, really wish they would’ve had cursed abyssal sharp gems too
@zerocool4159threaded cane ain’t that bad I used it for a whole playthrough (Belmont Build) it definitely isn’t in the top ten though even though I personally enjoy it especially as a back-up weapon
@zerocool4159 are switching from cane to whip a lot? Whip is better for crowd control and the cane especially the R2s are good for single enemies, then you also got decent transform attack combos
On the burial blade, the sword version is better if you want to pile on dps when you have 2-3+ seconds to attack or the boss is prone is to stunlock. The ability to parry and backstab with the curved sword with the dex builds is also massive. I used it in the dlc and I used the scythe on mobs but the curved sword was much better to break Ludwig’s limbs after you dodge in, to stunlock Maria to death and to take advantage of parries/backstabs on orphan and Maria. I used the scythe on Laurence. I repeat, the ability to parry and backstab with the curved sword itself makes it better than the scythe. You are not accounting for the obscene visceral damage on a dex build
All weapons are viable. Favorite weapon is Burial Blade and found it weird they added Gehrman's double slash in ER via Great Scythe. Beast Claw + Beast's Embrace are the best transformation out of the franchise compared to the dragon transformations. You can backstab with Beast Claws you have to use the forward tilt heavy attack on the backs of enemies which is a pounce
very good list the only one I disagree with is the burial blade I would replace with simon bow blade which is a good secondary for bloodtinge/dex builds. I prefer ludwig holy blade over saws a tiny bit but I realize its very close To be honest one of the reason this is my favorite fs game is because the weapons are so well balanced. I never felt like I was at much of disadvantage with any of them and yet all felt very different to use
how could you not mention that the untransformed HMS is the claymore in bloodborne??? that is the funniest thing about it. untransformed makes bloodborne a comedic time, because you quite literally get the ds1 claymore and it completely shits on everything
Played almost every weapon from this list on 1st playthrough cuz I liked to experiment. I didnt try only number 4 and 1 xd and have to say from what I tried love the most saw cleaver, burial blade and rakuyo was the goat
Cleaver spear and saif Are completely different weapons and should be considered. As such, the cleaver has the worst move set out of all 3. The sphere has the second best and the saif Has the best move set for p VP, but has the worst multipliers on it. There is no serrated damage to speak of while the spear is completely serrated, and has thrust, which makes it so overpowered at times but the cleaver has the potential to bully based off of its. Really high swings. That most of the time cripple bosses, because of hitting specific limb targets and head hits
Good list I would put the burial blade higher because of its charged attack. And church pick out of the top 10. Beasthunter saif is better than saw cleaver any day. I prefer moonlight greatsword to be higher than Ludwig’s. Where is kirkhammer? Simon’s bowblade is sooo good should be on the list.
Maybe its just me, but one thing about bloodborne that is a bit annoying is theres so many giant amazing areas in the game but theyre a bit off the beaten path or well hidden so they're super easy to miss the first playthrough.
saw spear best in bb easy. serrated notmal and transformed, fast, pierce attacks, those transform attacks, low requirements, damage convertable for arcane builds, available in the first area of the game, *those transform attacks*. Everything good about the saw cleaver but just better.
Everyone sleeps on the amygdalan arm that thing is a monster 3k damage high range stunlock charged attacks also beast cutter chain slams from 15 feet away
I'm absolutely forced to comment the following now: MAIN POINT -> If you are not allergic to the Chalice Dungeons then you can get late game weapon (yes, that includes even the Burial Blade) for the short price of eliminating the BSB BONUS -> If you use the cummmfpk Dungeon to get echoes for buying stuff anyway, then just beat Amelia to get to the DLC and buy the Uncanny or Lost variant for every DLC weapon
I don’t think that’s how moonlights damage works pretty sure it’s like 70% arc 30% physical in transformed and 60% physical and 40% arc when untransformed so you’re best going with nourishing gems Edit: these aren’t the concrete numbers I have no clue the percentages but it definitely does both the only attacks that don’t are the beams they’re pure arc without landing the sword hit with the beam of course
Am I the only one that hates hearing that the chikage is the only katana? Even though the rukuyo is from the same land and is just a katana with a hand guard and built in dagger? I get it looks odd with the hand guard, but it is a katana at the end of the day, just a pet peeve I guess
I feel like you could have made an argument for any weapon in this game to be in almost any position on this list. Just goes to show how well designed the weapon roster is.
Boo, boo! No Threaded cane!? Boooo! The threaded cane is easily the best weapon by a mile. I'd marry the threaded cane if I could! Boo! Un-transformed it has the best R2 in the game. It's one of the few weapons that can reliably do counter damage. It hits like a truck and transformed it has god like range and boosts all dex damage For that alone it's easily the best weapon in the game. The fact that it's move set is god tier is just gravy. Not to mention that the only weapon that can compete with the threaded cane for raw sex appeal is the hunter's axe. I agree with you on so much but I can't agree with you on this one. Alas, how can this be? Tis such a shame. =(
I feel like Beasthunter Saif is an older cousin to the saw twins. It has a forward movement based moveset that differentiates it enough. The transformation attacks alone create or close so much space that it lends itself to a mobile playstyle. Plus the fact it gets no boost to damage against beasts is hilarious to me. Arcane BHS as a backup to my Kos Parasite build is perfect however🤌
