Yessss I also miss Ghost Brigade so damn much... They were actually the Band that made me appreciate growls like 8 years ago, and still are among my favourites. I was so sad when they announced they split up after being on-hold for quite a while 😭
Great content as always thanks, Trees of Eternity - Hour of the Nightingale - in my opinion an essential melodic doom album,. I would also add Unkindness of Ravens third album Beautiful Tragedies as an honourable mention. Also Sinistro's album Sangue Cassia with it's pummelling instrumentation counter balanced by the ethereal vocals deserves an honourable mention
A damn perfect list boys, great picks. I’m glad Brave Murder Day by Katatonia got a mention (even though it’s not on the list) because that is my favourite doom metal album of all time. I would definitely add Hope by Swallow the Sun to the list but regardless, amazing list and subscribed!
Great video. Hadn’t thought about Daylight Dies is so long. Such a criminally underrated band. Enter My Silence is another one in the death/doom genre that never got the love it deserved.

One of my favourite melodic Doom/Death band that doesn't seem to get mentioned much is "Décember Noir" their whole discography is killer! Easily one of the best in the genre.
Fantastic list! I enjoy most of these bands/albums, especially November’s Doom, got me into the genre tbh. Another band I really love currently is The Foreshadowing, specifically the Days Of Nothing album, the vocals are SO soothing and give me goosebumps.
After seeing both Daylight Dies and Saturnus on the same list, I was secretly hoping for it to also include Draconian, a band that dominated my late high-school days. Maybe they're considered more Gothic than Doom, but I love their "beauty and the beast" singing that comes with beautifully haunting melodies! I was hooked with the song "Elysian Night" on their record "A Rose for the Apolcalypse".
This list introduced to 6 incredible albums and bands that I'd never heard of. All listened to in the last couple of days, so I'm very depressed now haha. Thanks fellas 🤘🤘
I've already listened to most on the list. Saw others already mentioned albums from Swallow the sun and draconian which are among my favourites, so i would just add a couple more albums that i like: 1) dawn of solace - the darkness. 2) Woods of ypres - woods IV the green album.
Really interesting list! I only knew Ghost Brigade and MDB on the list won need to check out the others. However, I was very surprised to not see Swallow the Sun! Amazing band with an epic catalogue of amazing albums. Trees of Eternity would also have been a must for a list of this type just based on the context of its creation - utterly heartbreaking. Wine From Tears / Through The Eyes Of A Mad So very very underrated in my opinion. All 3 albums are awesome. I like the playful guitars and the dark wave synth sound.
What a great list, definitely some bands for me to check out later. For me I would have included any Swallow the Sun album, The Silent Enigma by Anathema and Revelations by The Prophecy. On a side note, my old band used to rehearse next door to MDB back in the late 90's. We used to stand outside and listen to them practising new material which became 34.788%...Complete, a very underrated album in my opinion.

Cool to hear yr thought process on choosing an underrated or lesser-known album from a band's discography like MDB's Line of Deathless Kings, which fits perfectly on this list! I'd put Swallow the Sun on here myself - any of Moonflowers, Emerald Forest and the Blackbird, or The Morning Never Came. Also Draconian's Sovran or Arcane Rain Fell.

Fantastic list that brings me back to high school, however it's criminal to not have mentioned of any of the 2000's Swallow The Sun albums on a melodoom list. The Morning Never Came gets my vote. Also, shout out to US/CA melodoom project Sleepwalkers. Absolute quality.
Swallow the Sun for some reason feels a bit different to me than the bands on this list. They’re a little more downtempo and slower compared to the upbeat feel of these records. Absolutely fantastic band.
Really great list! I would add something by Draconian. "Arcane Rain Fell" is ther magnum opus in my opinion, but maybe "Turning Season Whitin" is more influential. Or maybe even "A Rose for the Apocalypse" because it leans more towards melodic death sound. I think is such an underrated band, it deserved more recognition.

For those who don't know the band i highly recommend their song "Deep-seeded hope avant-garde" from their 2008 album "Draining The Waterheart". It is a real masterpiece of metal music. It's a pity they are disbanded...
Thanks guys, great video. I draw a vague line between blackgaze and death doom geners; artists like Eneferens, Numeorean, and Fen who I really enjoy; perhaps a bit removed from death. It wasn't until I discovered this channel did I realize that doom != death doom. For the longest time I assumed all doom was funeral, and not really something I totally enjoy. And then *poof* with your help, I realized I had been so far removed from some kick ass music. Some other notables are both Marrowfields and Fateful Hour.

If you haven’t I highly recommend checking out the band counting hours, their 1 album is damn good. It’s formed by the original Rapture guitarist and is the closest thing in sound to them, sadly it went way way under the radar and got almost no attention so barely anyone even knows of it.
I prefer Martyre over Veronika Deserves To Die by Saturnus. Also Turn Loose The Swans by My Dying Bride, Songs from the North by Swallow The Sun, Sovran by Draconian, Dream Unending,
I never cared much for doom metal until y’all completely persuaded me and enlightened me of the genius of this genre. Also, y’all should check out black anvil, they’re touring with enslaved and insomnium and are coming to Boston in a couple weeks!
Daylight Dies are my Favorite doom band..i feel A Frail Becoming is their masterpiece album. Then Lost To The Living is number two. The Song Four Corners on No Reply is also a masterpiece. My second favorite doom band is Subrosa...unbelievable unique doom band from Salt Lake City. I miss them both!
Awesome list, which is no surprise. I know it sits somewhere in between death and doom, but Garden Of Shadows - Oracle Moon should be mentioned as much as possible, regardless of context. "Hey man, haven't seen you in a while! How are you?" "Have you listened to that Garden Of Shadows disc?" "...What?" "Bye."
I definitely went through a phase with Rapture, Slumber, and Daylight Dies on repeat. Love all of those records. Slumber is the pinnacle though. For a band to just drop a record of that caliber and then scatter into the wind... very impressive.

@@lukegallegos8523 I put Mystic Places Of Dawn here because it resembles Dance Of December Souls to me. Septicflesh's earliest stuff was more atmospheric and less symphonic. And yes, Hallathar and everything else Juha touches is a guaranteed work of art. May Aleah rest in peace.

Slumber is my favorite album of all time, and so sad they never carried on. Atoma is good but they kinda miss a little something Slumber had. Also I think "The Pale Haunt Departure" is the best Novembers Doom album. Also no love for Novembre - Novembrine Waltz?
Did you guys have a metalcore phase? I feel like that was HUGE in the South in the early 2000s. Norma Jean was from Atlanta. Evergreen Terrace was from Florida. Living Sacrifice was from Arkansas. Maybe that subgenre just really connected in that area at the time. It felt like Bless the Martyr and Kiss the Child from Norma Jean was sorta the top album of that time period. We also loved Zao like Liberate Te Ex Inferis and albums like that. The Hammering Process is probably the best Living Sacrifice album. I think maybe the influence of rap is felt more strongly in the South and bands like Norma Jean, Living Sacrifice, Evergreen Terrace, and Zao, etc. had a certain rhythm to them even outside of breakdowns that maybe helped them to get ahold of people in the South. I don't know. I'm generalizing here maybe. Consider this my working armchair theory. At any rate, I still listen to some of those albums. I'm sure it's not just me. Metalcore really did have its heyday in the early 2000s, I feel. I'd love for you guys to go over this time period at some point in the future. Thank you.

My Dying Bride after Like Gods of the Sun is not really worth a listen; everything before Like Gods is the real MDB with the self-taught drummer who sounded better than all their subsequent pro drummers. Turn Loose the Swans might be their best melodic doom album but The Angel and the Dark River has their heaviest sound at 5:00 into Black Voyage. Personally, I go back to the track Vast Choirs and the Trinity compilation (esp. the first 3 tracks and Gather Me Up Forever) more than any of their stuff because they mixed a raw death metal sound with melodic doom so well. Early Anathema is also worth hearing (Serenades comp). I credit dISEMBOWELMENT, My Dying Bride, Anathema and some Paradise Lost (and a few others like Evoken) for showing me how good extreme metal can be and getting me completely away from speed-obsessed metal that often just annoyed me. Thanks guys, for recommending some of these albums. Being older, I haven't listened to Mar de Grises nor Ghost Brigade; I miss releases being uninformed as I am. Saturnus was/is a second rate MDB rip-off band with a few good tracks (Christ Goodbye).
Yeah - the views have been better focusing on one great video a week vs trying to make up videos to fill a 2 video a week schedule. The edits were lower quality on 2 videos a week, and sometimes pointless as they spread the views out between two videos we weren’t as proud of.
