Moonlight Sorcery - Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle 9. Ne Obliviscaris - Exul 8. Begotten - To the Dreary End 7. Wayfarer - American Gothic 6. Ahab - The Coral Tombs 5. Blackbraid - Blackbraid II 4. Tomb Mold - The Enduring Spirit 3. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite 2. Horrendous - Ontological Mysterium 1. Fires in the Distance - Air Not Meant For Us
love blackbraid so much, just I dont think the song writing is to the level for 10 minute songs. Would be an immediate favorite if it wasn't for that, they get a little repetitive and boring past 5 minutes imo
Yo dude! Thanks so much for featuring Hellripper and Dodheimsgard, I knew that they would be on your list! Also - I recently discovered the King Gizz record as well and that has really blown me away. Need to give Thantifaxath and Panopticon a listen though for sure!
@@themetalmeltdownofficial Haha any time dude! It's my pleasure, plus those records are meant to be listened to in that format for me personally. Especially DHG! Got my second episode coming this week (basically when I have the time to do it!)
Conjureth - The Parasitic Chambers was definitely an underrated death metal album this year, it came out in January but it somehow managed to stick with me all year. It manages to hit my sweet spot perfectly, the right balance of old school tonality, technicality that doesn't cross the line into proggy wankery, and brutal heaviness. Great album if you folks haven't heard it
Here's my personal top 10 (feel free to suggest more recommendations): 10. Cannibal Corpse - Chaos Horrific 9. Enslaved - Heimdall 8. Brand of Sacrifice - Between Death and Dreams 7. END - The Sin of Human Frailty 6. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite 5. Silent Planet - SUPERBLOOM 4. Cryptopsy - As Gomorrah Burns 3. Periphery - Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre 2. Veil of Maya - [M]other 1. TesseracT - War of Being
My HM and Top 10 (in no particular order): HM: Sermon - Of Golden Verse Fredlös - Fredlös Ahab - The Coral Tomb Xoth - Exogalactic Top 10: Sacred Outcry - Towers of Gold (my AOTY and imo the best power metal album in recent years) Sulphur Aeon - Seven Crowns and Seven Seals Wayfarer - American Gothic Vinsta - Freiweitn Panopticon - The Rime of Memory King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizzard - PetroDraconic Apocalypse... Enforced - War Remains (my Nr. 1 gym album) Green Lung - This Heathen Lands Tomb Mold - The Enduring Spirit Serpent of Old - Esemble Under The Dark Sun
Yeah cattle decapitation won album of the year for me. Travis ryans vocal performances only grow more inhuman as the years go on and its just great. Plus the concept of terrasite is just horrifying awesome. Scourge of the off spring is 10/10 The storm up stairs is 10/10 Just another body is 10/10 Terrasitic adaptation is 10/10 Best album of the year for me. Small mention for Brand of sacrifice. Their EP between death and dreams for me just really proves they are the most creative and sonicly devistating without comprimising song writing in all of modern deathcore.
Coral tombs when I listened to it painted a story in my head of a dystopian future where the human race is at war with Love Craftian gods starting under the ocean, and then moving onto the outer worlds. Truly an amazing record
10 albums I loved from 2023: Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags Triumpher - Storming the Walls Exelerate - Exelerate Dying Fetus - Make Them Beg for Death Chronicle - Where Chaos Thrives Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite Enforced - War Remains Uriah Heep - Chaos & Colour Raven - All Hell’s Breaking Loose Jesus Piece - …So Unknown
Have you heard of the band Helm’s Deep, they just released an album called ‘Treacherous Ways.’ It’s my absolute favorite album of 2023, but honestly it’s my favorite new album in a long time. The guitarist/vocalist started it and got John Gallagher and the drummer of Raven on board with him for it. It’s sick.
Love the variety! I'll have to research Lion's Daughter. This year was stacked with goodies. Among my favorites were Autopsy, Wayfarer, Panopticon, Thantifaxath, Enslaved, and Haken.
Many of your choices align with my own! I think I'd have Voidceremony's Threads of Unknowing somewhere in there though. Thanks for so many great recommendations this year!
Two albums that have really resonated with me in 2023 are definitely The Rime of Reason by Panopticon and Sky Void of Stars by Katatonia. The former had the same effect on me as Panopticon’s previous album And Again Into The Light only this just hit me hard in a different way. And Again Into The Light felt like a warm hug telling me that everything is going to be ok. This album just felt like someone showing me a desolate landscape and watching people grieve for their lost loved ones after a catastrophe. As for Sky Void of Stars, in terms of style, I was in love with that album. I just loved the sound, the style, everything. It just felt heavier than the last album. Your list was solid. I’m gonna look for those albums and listen to them. Cheers!
My Top 10 Favorite Metal Albums of 2023: 10. Reader of the Runes - Rapture by Elvenking 9. Riders of The Ancient Storm by Heavy Load 8. Judgement Day by Lovebites 7. At The Heart of Wintervale by Twilight Force 6. Interludium by Powerwolf 5. War Remains by Enforced 4. 666 by Cobra Spell 3. Ghost At The Gallows by Spirit Adrift 2. Trial by Chaos by Raider 1. Voyage by Tanith
My top 5 Insomnium Lovebites Enslaved Vintersea Svalbard Robert, you have brought Enslaved, Svalbard, Cattle Decap, Code Orange, Hellripper and a helluva lot more bands into my world. Cheers mate.
I love the fact that you appreciate Metal in all its forms as this awesome genre of music evolves,. You have not favoured one subgenre you have celebrated the awesomness of metal today. We are lucky because its never been better to be a metalhead and im 52
Great top 10 list! All albums that are deserving to be there. My personal AOTY would go to Fires in the Distance - Air not meant for us. Has the perfect mix of Melo death and doom elements. Sprinked in are these gorgeous piano moments that really help this record stand out
@mojuy1 echoes from deep November was an amazing debut. I wasn't sure if they would be able to top it but holy hell they did. Exceeded my expectations and then some
The most wonderful time of the year. The good ol' tradition of sharing our favorite albums of the year. No exception to the rule, here's mine: 10. Horrendous - Ontological Mysterium (a love letter to 90's progressive death metal) 9. Sermon - Of Golden Verse (polyvalent, climactic and intense progressive metal) 8. Majesties - Vast Reaches Unclaimed (the blueprint of 90's Swedish melodic death metal applied to today; a great throwback to that era written more-than-competently well) 7. Enslaved - Heimdal (sixteen albums in their career, what else do we need to say? Imaginative, reinventing extreme prog/viking metal) 6. Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags (unforgiving, licky and shredding black/thrash metal, courtesy of James McBain) 5. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite (dynamic and strong songwriting once again from these Californian deathgrind environmentalists/activists) 4. Thantifaxath - Hive Mind Narcosis (nightmare-induced, avant-garde and dizzying black metal) 3. Blackbraid - Blackbraid II (an impressive sequel to an already worthy black metal album; the oppression of the Native American tribes, the melancholy and anguish of the past, felt in the compact and captivating songwriting) 2. Downfall of Gaia - Silhouettes of Disgust (post-black metal done right with a strong influence from crust punk and doom metal; their best album since Suffocating in the Swarm of Cranes) My favorite album of 2023: Wayfarer - American Gothic (black metal's answer to the American Frontier era, period; innovative, bleak and savage black metal contrasted with the grounded sound of Americana folk)
Hellripper, Cattle Decapitation and Horrendous are pretty much my holy trinity for 2023. Panopticon comes very close. The only record I was expecting but wasn't mentioned is Enslaved's Heimdal. But hey, as you so rightly said, the year was packed with great records. On a side note: Instead of the next Godzilla v King Kong mashup I want to see a movie with the monsters from the covers of Bath House and Terrasite. That would be epic.
Even though it doesn’t count as a metal album, I’ll give a great special shoutout to that Foo Fighters album “But Here We Are.” That being said, Cattle Decapitation kicked ass this year.
I got coral tombs as my album of the year and Terrasite as a close second. I’d put tomb mold and sulphur aeon in place of dødheimsgard(I think I butchered that name) and King gizzard, only changes I’d make. Great list, love to see Thantifaxath getting some love.
I still think fall of hearts is the best album they’ve done in the last few years but I’m still more than satisfied with city burials and sky void of stars. Got more than enough great songs on both albums. Completely underrated band but those who know know
My album of the year belongs to Chaos Horrific from Cannibal Corpse. So heavy, chunky, ballsy, and just pure death metal goodness from these legends. It's near the top 5 in my Cannibal Corpse album rankings list, exactly two spots higher than 2021's Violence Unimagined. My favorite tracks are the title track, Blood Blind, Summoned for Sacrifice, and Overlords of Violence. What an album.
Favorite albums this year for metal Lamp of Murmuur - Saturnian Bloodstorm Blackbraid - Blackbraid II Liturgy - 93696 Obituary - Dying of Everything Majesties - Vast Reaches Unclaimed (Because that in flames album didn't work for me, brother) Panopticon - The Rime of Memory FVNERALS - Let the Earth Be Silent Spirit Adrift - Ghost at the Gallows Dødheimsgard - Black Medium Current Revenant Marquis - All the Pleasures of Heaven
A very respectable list. And damn, that intro hehe :D My personal top 20: 1. Lord of the Lost - Blood & Glitter - Dark Rock (Germany) 2. And Oceans - As In Gardens, So In Tombs - Melodic Black Metal (Finland) 3. Insomnium - Anno 1696 - Melodic Death Metal (Finland) 4. Enslaved - Heimdal - Progressive Black Metal (Norway) 5. Heathen Foray - Oathbreaker - Melodic Folk Death Metal (Austria) 6. Raider - Trial By Chaos - Thrash Metal (Canada) 7. The Arcane Order - Distortions From Cosmogonoy - Melodic Death Metal (Denmark) 8. Maktkamp - Caps Lock Woke Rock - Hard Rock (Norway) 9. Nexorum - Tongue of Thorns - Black/Death Metal (Norway) 10. Aeolian - Echoes of The Future - Melodic Death Metal (Spain) 11. Orbit Culture - Descent - Thrash/Groove Metal (Sweden) 12. Mystic Prophecy - Hellriot - Power Metal (Germany) 13. Sulphur Aeon - Seven Crowns And Seven Seals - Blackened Death (Germany) 14. Sworn - A Journey Told Through Fire - Melodic Black Metal (Norway) 15. Ghosts of Atlantis - Riddles of The Sycophants - Symphonic Death Metal (The UK) 16. Hinayana - Shatter And Fall - Melodic Death/Doom Metal (USA) 17. Alkaloid - Numen - Technical Death Metal (Germany) 18. Enforced - War Remains - Thrash Metal (USA) 19. Aetherian - At Storm’s Edge - Melodic Death Metal (Greece) 20. Night Crowned - Tales - Melodic Black/Folk Metal (Sweden).
My top 5 Metal Albums 2023: • Thantifaxath - Hive Mind Narcosis • Sea Mosquito - Igitur • Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite • The Lion's Daughter - Bath House • Panopticon - The Rime of Memory Btw, you should listen to Sea Mosquito's Igitur, Robert. I commented on at least 3 videos about it, but I guess it was too late for a review or a mention. Here are another albums I really enjoyed this year (no particular order): • Thy Darkened Shade - Liber Lvcifer II • Downfall of Gaia - Silhouettes of Disgust • Blut Aus Nord - Disarmonium: Nahab • None - Inevitable • Blackbraid - Blackbraid II • Pénitence Onirique - Nature Mort • Fossilization - Leprous Daylight • Sulphur Aeon - Seven Crowns and Seven Seals • Torture Chain - The Reign of Deimos • Outlaw - Reaching Beyond Assiah • Asagraum - Veil of Death, Ruptured • Oak Pantheon - The Absence • Non Est Deus - Legacy
I appreciate these type of lists more than you'd imagine... I graduated in 1991, getting into Sepultura's "Beneath The Remains" before graduation. I was lucky enough to have moshed to Fear Factory at a Whiskey show prior to their debut, but have never been a true part of the extreme metal community. Because of my shortcomings, I live vicariously through you and your reviews (just saw Me First and the Gimme Gimmes in Anaheim, as a reference point with my 15-year-old moshing for his first time) because of pain issues I have. Thank you for doing videos like this and all your other review/monthly summation videos you do. I'm based in the US, and have to defend my (extreme) liberal beliefs frequently, but we ARE looking to travel as a culinary adventure... and would love to work any restaurant you're at into said culinary trip (provided I can get pain under control). Please stay on here until then!!! I love watching your videos, and still need to see where you rank "Leprosy" in Death's discography! Happy Christmas and New Year, hope things are even better than this past year for you & yours!
Just subbed to this channel. I really appreciated the Lion's Daughter pick. I'm glad that metal groups from St. Louis are getting the love they deserve!
Spoilers for my Top 10 vid but Lion’s Daughter is my number 1 by a metric lightyear. I just love their combination of extreme metal and John Carpenter-esque synthwork. Also Enforced, Enslaved, and Blackbraid all put out bangers this year.
I actually screamed when I saw Petrodragonic Apocalypse here, it’s become one of my favorite metal albums EVER and it’s great to see other people enjoying it. Happy holidays!
Cattle decap won for me. Bought the vinyl. Theyre my all time favorite band without a doubt My list. 1. Cattle decap: terrasite 2. To the grave: director's cuts 3. Dying fetus: make them beg for death 4. August burns red: death below 5. Exterminatiom dismemberment: dehumanization protocol 6. Periphery: djnet is not a genre 7. Crown magnetar: everything bleeds 8. Sanguisugabogg: homocidal exstacy 9. Acacia strain: Step into the light & failure will follow 10. Ov sulfur: burden of faith This was the year for death metal/core for me. New signs and distant was okay but to the grave and crown magnetar really caught my attention. Ovsulfur as well. And sewagesandiwchbob bpew my expectations outof the water with their album. Itd be my nunber one DM record if dying fetus didnt release anything this year. Acacia strain killed it with the two evil albums they dropped. Extermination dismemberment brought the brutality i love from them and so much more. I dont listen to much metalcore but ABR has been a ling time fav and they once more stole the show from every other band in their genre. Periphery hit at the right time and the right places. I was going through a huge prog phase when they dropped it. Dying fetus bringing the god tier grooves and brutality with their album. But above all, travis the god among men he is, stole the world with his vocals. Terrasite is perfection from start to finish. Easy win for 2023. What a great year. Cheers mate
Awesome list. Thank you for turning me on to Smoulder. I would also like to add that the new Enforcer album, Nostalgia is also one of the best of the year. Check out the song Unshackle Me for some 80s style Heavy Metal with an atmosphere not often heard in 80s Metal, at least in my opinion. For some great old school Speed Metal, check out the song Coming Alive. I know the year is almost over, but I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!
I really like your list, and thanks for introducing me to several new bands this year. I added Acausal Intrusion and Mithridatum to my best of the year. My top 10 are: Mithridatum Thantifaxath Ahab Acausal Intrusion Cattle Decapitation King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Hellripper Dying Fetus Enslaved Marduk I just cannot get into Dodheimsgard because they are like adding pickles and prawns into vanilla bean ice cream. I will listen to Horrendous some more.
As usual, whenever I create a "best of" annual year-end list I leave a bunch of good stuff off and 2023 was no exception at all. I probably could have made this list ten times longer and boring af to read, but that said, barring a complete miracle for 2023's last month, I have what would be the 25 albums that I enjoyed the most this year: 1. Lovebites -- Judgement Day 2. Delain -- Dark Waters 3. Hellripper -- Warlocks Grim and Withered Hags 4. Insomnium -- Anno 1696 5. Overkill -- Scorched 6. Redshift -- Laws of Entropy 7. Xandria -- The Wonders Still Awaiting 8. Perc3ption -- Art In Extreme Situations 9. Fierce Justice -- Fireborn 10. Acid King -- Beyond Vision 11. Enforced -- War Remains 12. Wytch Hazel -- IV: Sacrament 13. Restless Spirit -- Afterimage 14. Kalmah -- S/T 15. Ne Obliviscaris -- Exul 16. Echoes of Bronze -- Ilium 17. Night Legion -- Fight or Fall 18. Enchantya -- Cerberus 19. Majesties -- Vast Reaches Unclaimed 20. Midnight Vice -- S/T (the riffs on this are KILLER) 21. Excalion -- Once Upon A Time 22. Naitaka -- Emergence 23. Blood Ceremony -- The Old Ways Remain 24. Soen -- Memorial 25. Iron Savior -- Firestar Just missed: Dhaliax -- Doomed , Obituary -- Dying of Everything, Blackbraid -- Blackbraid II, Cruachan -- The Living and the Dead, Enslaved -- Heimdal, Blackbriar -- A Dark Euphony, Moonlight Sorcery -- Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle, Akilla -- The Gods Have Spoken, Omnium Gatherum -- Slasher, Powerwolf-- Interludium, and Exmortus -- Necrophony. Even with 25, I left off a LOT of good stuff.
My list: 1. Cannibal Corpse-Chaos Horrific 2. Enslaved-Heimdal 3. Suffocation-Hymns from the Apocrypha 4. Ahab-The Coral Tombs 5. Autopsy-Ashes, Organs, Blood and Crypts 6. Overkill-Scorched 7. Rotten Sound-Apocalypse 8. Cattle Decapitation-Terrasite 9. Dying Fetus-Make Them Beg for Death 10. Scar Symmetry-The Singularity (Phase II-Xenotaph)
There are still some records that I haven't heard yet that I am cramming this last month, that King Gizzard album being one of them, but as it stands I have a pretty solid top 25: Astriferous - Pulsations from the Black Orb Blut aus Nord - Disharmonium: Nahab Death Portrait - Morbid Curiosity Hasard - Malivore Horrendous - Ontological Mysterium In Der Welt - In Der Welt Lamp of Murmuur - Saturnian Bloodstorm Lunar Chamber - Shambhallic Vibrations Mithridatum - Harrowing Nemesis Sopor - Firmament Nightmarer - Deformity Adrift Obsidyen - Litany of Iah Profeci - Ubóstwo Teitan - In Oculus Abyss Thantifaxath - Hive Mind Narcosis Thy Catafalque - Alföld TOMB MOLD - The Enduring Spirit Ulthar - Helionomicon Ulthar - Anthronomicon VOIDCEREMONY - Threads of Unknowing Predatory Void - Seven Keys To The Discomfort Of Being Orphans of Dusk - Spleen Bastard Grave - Vortex Of Disgust Tribunal - The Weight of Remembrance the Mosaic Window - Plight of Acceptance

Blindfolded and led to the Woods - Rejecting Obliteration 3. Cruciamentum - Obsidian Refractions 4. Cattle Decapitation - Terrasite 5. The Bleeding - Monokrator 6. Acid King - Beyond Vision 11. Shining - Shining 12. Raider - Trial by Chaos 13. Haar - Ouroboros 14. Tongues - Formlöse Stjerner 15. Panopticion - The Rime of Memory 16. Mānbryne - Interregnum: O próbie wiary i jarzmie zwątpienia 17. Enforced - War Remains 18. Coffinborn - Cadaveric Retribution 19. Ikarie - Arde 20. Moonreich - Amer
My top 5 Blackbriar - A Dark Euphone (not normally my type of metal, but goddamn this album was so haunting and ethereal that i couldn't stop listening) Scar Symmetry - Xenotaph King gizzard - really long named album in not typing Ahab - Coral Tombs Cattle Decap - Terrasite
I absolutely agree on Horrendous, Outerheaven, and Tomb Mold. Seeing the first two later this month on their East Coast tour and the later next year at Decibel M&B fest in Philly.
My number one this year would probably be Sacred Outcry - Towers of Gold. You've got the legendary Daniel Heiman on lead vocals giving the performance of a lifetime.
I liked Black Medium Current, but i've put It on my honorable mentions, maybe i should give it another listen. Here's my list: 1. Yearning: Promethean Fates Sealed - Fleshvessel 2. Hive Mind Narcosis - Thantifaxath 3. Earth Will Shed It's Skin - Chrome Waves 4. Seven Crowns And Seven Seals - Sulphur Aeon 5. Terrasite - Cattle Decapitation 6. Numen - Alkaloid 7. Alföld - Thy Catafalque 8. The Enduring Spirit - Tomb Mold 9. Disharmonium : Nahab - Blut Aus Nord 10. Kalmah - Kalmah Honorable Mentions: Shades of Sorrow - Crypta Common Suffering - Harm's Way The Reign Of The Anticrust - Pizza Death Mutants - Mutoid Man Igitur - Sea Mosquito Periphery V: Djent Is Not A Genre - Periphery Black Medium Current - Dødheimsgard As Gomorrah Burns - Cryptopsy Worst Case Scenario - Altarage Bath House - The Lion's Daughter
Great list and video! My #1 for the year is Cattle Decapitation's "Terrasite." Just found out about them this year thanks to you and Thralls, and have quickly become one of my new favorite bands. Thanks for turning me onto some great music, especially The Lion's Daughter. Keep up the great work!
I feel like the odd one out again. My metal album of year is the Liturgy project. King Gizzard album is a close second though, and Dragon is my favorite song of the year from any genre.
You have become my favorite metal review show! Love all the content and can’t wait for more reviews to get more recommendations for bands and albums! Thank you Metal Meltdown! 🤟
TBH, I really like the selectoin. It's quite diverse and has good mix of different Styles: Here are my very subjective Top Ten list which changes daily at the moment for mood reasons #10 TSJUDER -Helvegr #09 GRAVE PLEASURES - Plagueboys #08 MARDUK - Memento Mori #07 BLUT AUS NORD - Disharmonium - Nahab #06 TAAKE - Et Hav av Avstand #05 FIMBULVET - Portale #04 THE NIGHT ETERNAL - Fatale #03 IN FLAMES - Foregone #02 BLOEDMAAN - Castle Inside The Eclipse #01 KADAVERFICKER - Superkiller
Awesome list, I haven't compiled mine yet but Ahab, Horrendous, Cattle Decapitation, Hellripper, The Lion's Daughter and King Gizzard will all do well for me. Maybe Panopticon too though needs more listens. Also threatening my top 10 are Svalbard, Obituary, Insomnium, Enslaved, Heretoir and Thy Catafalque. It was an incredible year for heavy music.
A few similar top 10 picks: - Panopticon - Dodheimsgard - Crown Lands - The Lions Daughter - Horrendous - Ne Obliviscaris - None - Downfall Of Gaia - Enslaved - Predatory Void Best Non Metal: - Riverside - Vanishing Kids Best EPs: - Dream Unending/Worm - Brand Of Sacrifice
Great list, as always 😀 some albums match my choices: Hellripper, Dodheimsgard, Panopticon but here some other from me: Blackbraid, Fleshvessel, Phlebotomized, Non Est Deus, Cristal Coffin, Ritual Awakening, Dead Unending/Worm. Unfortunately no bands from my country so far, Polish BM seems to wait for new Mgła, which as always will arrive unexpectedly, I hope soon. Maybe some metal lists will have to be rebuilt just before year end 😀
Top 5, in order: 1. Victory Over The Sun - Dance You Monster To My Soft Song 2. Gridlink - Coronet Juniper 3. Ahab - The Coral Tombs 4. Liturgy - 93696 5. Iravu - A Fate Worse Than Home
14:33 I'm surprised Enslaved didn't make your list or honorable mentions. I remember literally every review channel was going nuts over it when it came out.
A couple of my absolute favourites were in your honourable mentions: Tomb Mold and Sulphur Aeon, but kudos for having Ahab in your top 10, that is in the top 3 for me this year. For me though, Alkaloid 'Numen' takes the AOTY title hands down; what a complete progressive death metal masterpiece! 👌👌
Great list, and theyre all great albums. My favorite metal album of the year was KGLW, but there was an EP that beat everything else for me. Lunar Chamber - Shambhallic Vinrations blew my fucking mind. Hopefully, we get more from them in 2024.
I don't know what my list is fully but I am certain that my aoty has to be the newest Behold the Arctopus album that dropped this year. It is super progressive in it's sound and has a really fun space theme. I've seen no one talk about it which is sad as a big fan of the band because it feels like everything they make is a guaranteed aoty winner or contender. Regardless though, this year was absolutely fantastic for death metal and metalcore though and as those are my 2 favorite genres (metalcore being my number 1) it has beem a great 12 months for me in terms of listening to new music
Curious about your thoughts on Tardigrade Inferno. Their album Burn the Circus is pretty high on my list for this year. You should check out Werewolves - My Enemies Look And Sound Like Me, Nervochaos - Cthonic Wrath, and Lucifuge - Monoliths of Wrath too.
My top 10 would be 1. Tribunal - The Weight Of Remembrance 2. Fires In The Distance - Air Not Meant For Us 3. Asagraum - Veil Of Death Ruptured 4. Notturno - Inside 5. Ahab - The Coral Tombs 6. Cattle Decapitation - Terrisite 7. Wayfarer - American Gothic 8. Insomnium - Anno 1696 9. Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags 10. Crypta - Shades Of Sorrow
I wish I could love black medium current as much as everyone else, but I couldn't for life of me get into it. Very talented band though for sure but ehh didn't do it for me.
I had to re spin it but now I’m confident my album of the year is “Bizarrekult - Den Tapte Krigen”. Every time I come back to it, I find something new to enjoy and it never grows old. 😮💨that was difficult lol
Great list , thank you for this year's great content and introducing me to so much fantastic music. Have you listened to' Innerst I Morket' by Manii? To me it has the tone and atmosphere of Burzum (without Varg thankfully) and shades of early Emperor , plus experimentation and ambience. It feels like I could have discovered it in the 90's . Love to hear anyone's thoughts , I think it's so special and a black metal highlight of the past few years but it's all subjective after all.
Humanitys Last Breath - Ashen Violet Cold - Multieverse Tsjuder - Helvegr Frontieres - La Trilogie Escape From Wonderland - Pieces Atoll - Human Extract End - The SinOf Human Fraility Ten56 - downer part 1 and 2 To The Grave - Offcuts Disfiguring The Goddess - The Brutal Machine

Awesome list, my dude! It has indeed been an awesome year for metal, with much variety to offer. I've made a full-on collage of my favourite metal albums of the year, so I'll briefly say here that my absolute favourite has been Angra - Cycles of Pain. It's a beautiful odyssey of progressive power metal melodies that shows the pure transcendent talent of all those involved. I expected it to be good, but was captivated by how much of an emotional journey it was. Special mention should also go to my #2 and #3 slots, being Marianas Rest - Auer, and Ascension - Under the Veil of Madness, respectively. Both of these albums show the diversity in my taste of metal, from the slow, melancholic melodic death-doom atmospheres of Marianas Rest, to the cheesy, ultra-technical bombastic neoclassical power metal of Ascension, making a much deserved comeback after their debut album a decade ago. Great list, as always, and many crossovers with my own. Glad to have been part of the conversations :)
