For me as the Kapara comes from factory it’s to hard for me to use the compression lock with the slick Cf and the skinny handle near it however if it would have come with a liner lock it probably would have been high on the list for me 👌🏻
Have a GB1 and a GB2 on my desk right now and can’t decide which one I like better. Just incredible knives. That SpyOpera keeps calling me. - looks like a perfect EDC for urban environment. I am also liking the style of the Shaman a lot, but would probably do some grind adjustments if I were to get one. And yes - please do that video on top 10 discontinued Spydercos. That would be awesome 👍
#1 Shaman #2 Manix 2 #3 Sage 5 (compression lock) Honorable mention: Subvert. Too big for EDC in most cases. The Native 5 Salt, Brouwer and Canis, which I don't own yet to evaluate properly.
No.1 G.Bradley,no.2 Canis,no.3 Stovepipe. Bradley for backup too my .45acp.,Canis all around everything knife, and Stovepipe for stuff I need up close control on at work. All Spyderco the best.,👍
I would put the GB2 at the top too. For the reasons mentioned AND because it IS a "slicer". Possibly with the thinnest behind the blade measured at 7.5/1000. It's also one of the better values out there if you're loooking for a knife with CF scales and a quality blade....M4...from the factory. If you're not going to mod your knife. Most other M4 (and Alu scales) knive cost $50-50 more...it's also the ony production knife with a M4 blade and CF....oddly companies are onky offering CF scaled knives with S90V. The "access to the lock bar"...I don't see it as an issue. It's the same on ZT's...except ZTs do include "jimping" on the bar. My only gripe is the lack of a "sharpending choil"...then again most Spyderco's don't include one...stubborn owners of Spyderco (for some odd reason refuse to budge and include a sharpening choil like Benchmade, ZT., Kizer, yet Spyderco has one on their Smock... I'm getting one. GB2 ...CF/M4.
Gayle Badley 2 Sage-1 Maxamet Endela K390 Honorable mention, and because I really like camping, guiding, hunting and making fires / processing wood. The most under appreciated Spyderco, the Province, absolutely love 4V as a fixed blade steel. My next endeavor will be a spyderco in LC200N, I really like the Spydiechef and blades with a continuous sweep
Hiya 🎉.., nice review. I really like the Shaman (I have big hands), but I also like the Native 5, and a few others that have good finger placement for choking up. Thanks for the review!
1) Sage 2. Spyderco's best ergonomics are in the Sage series, and this discontinued tribute to the Sebenza in slab titanium offers beautiful minimalism. Not one extraneous detail that doesn't serve function. I won't ever NEED another EDC. That said if Chris Reeve can embrace MagnaCut, there's a good case for a large sprint reissue, for which I'd double dip. 2) Kapara. Thin 3.6" blade, comfy contoured CF handles, compression lock, designed for cutting on surfaces (no front quillion/finger guard to interfere). 3) Native 5. Better than the Para 3 for everything but fidgeting, and the happy median of all the "evergreen" models, not too small/delicate, not too heavy/overbuilt. It's probably a sentimental favorite for Sal and Eric, which is why so many of their newer models are rescaled versions (Lil' Native, Native Chief, Shaman). Little wonder the Native 5 is their pick for introducing new steels into ongoing Golden CO production. Honorable mention: Stretch 2 in K390. If I had to have one knife for everything for the rest of my life, I think this would be the one. PM 2 sized knife, with a more comfortable handle, in the best balanced super tool steel.
No native’s? I love me some native’s. The g10 and c/f s90v is beautiful. And the lightweight versions are cheap and can get almost any steel with it. Nice knives 👍🏻
Great stuff as always sir. I just bought my first spyderco, para 3 black g10 amd s30v. Couldnt be happier! Now I'm trying to figure out which one i want next.
I have 2 Spydercos that are overlooked: 1) Spyderco UK penknife is basically a lightweight Delica Slipjoint with front finger choil to keep the blade from closing on your finger and weighs only 1.9 ounces. 67.20. 2) Spyderco Cat has the same dimensions and weigh as the Lil Native but is a liner lock. Both knives are in my favorite user steel CTS-BD1N. 61.00 Thanks for the video.
Stassa, I forget one older one the Montra 2 titanium cpm-m4, flipper, wire clip. 279.95msrp. The msrp for the positron mentioned above is also 279.95. Dominick
The mantra is in my top 10 discontinued Spyderco video that is coming in the next day or two. I didn’t end up keeping the Positron mine had to many issues
Hallo old friend. Great list. Gave me some ideas. Only Spydercos I own are the Para 3 and the Mantra but thinking of getting another one. That's why your list was great
1. Kapara 💯 2. Shaman 3. PM2 4. Lil’ Native 5. Dragonfly 2 I have a PM2 in maxamet but maybe I need a Sage too. I really dislike the pocket clip situation on the Para 3, if it weren’t for that I’d get the same dress in a Para 3.
I just picked up the pm2 in k390. It took me two days to drop it on the floor and break the tip off it. I sent it in to BGM knives to get the tip fixed and a regrind plus acid stonewashed
My favorite Spydercos: Paysan Slysz Bowie (original) Drunken Swayback Kapara (with sharpening choil filed in) Smock in M4 with Ti scales to remove all the stupid holes, and 2nd detent removed Spydiechef Techno 2 Shaman with flytanium brass scales
I recently picked up a Spyderco Military in Carbonfiber Peel-Ply with 52100 steel. I always swore I'd never buy a Military but I've always wanted a 52100 Spyderco but never could get my hands on one. I added a LynchNW clip and I LOVE this knife even with it being top down only.
dlrmon1 Hard to pick a Top 5. For me I have a favorite EDC... Outdoor... Work... Hard use... Fishing... etc, etc... I have a different set of favorites for each category.
dlrmon1 Being a older collector...Top Spyderco’s of all time would better suit me...for Edc, Mantra without the big spydie hole. Kapara #2, Spydiechef #3
Well looks like I'm a bit different; Kapara (With an OCD4EDC CME) Ikuchi (Plan to do custom scales and might try and do a custom OCD4EDC CME compression lock tab) Shaman (Micarta, Nub delete and OCD4EDC CME) Just wish Spyderco would put out these in LC200N (or at least for the Kapara)
Great video! My top 5: - Para 3 in Cruwear or REX45 - Paramilitary 2 in S110V or S35VN - Dragonfly 2 in H1, VG10 Cruwear - Native 5 in Cruwear, S90V or S110V - Shaman in CruCarta Most used are the Ladybug, Dragonfly 2, Para 3, Mantra 2 and PM2. Most underrated Spyderco is the Brouwer in my opinion: good ergonomics, useful blade shape, slim carry profile, non-threatening more classic design and super smooth operation.
hey my friend, spyderco is my favourite brand also. i do own others , microtech, medford , zt , benchmade , pohl force , but spydies are at the price i want to spend. i own 8 spyderco s but several are discontinued , so that would leave.......the spyopera....(gorgeous small knife) paramilitary 2 and ..... para 3 as a letter opener/package ....i would love a smock but cannot get one here in the uk (shitty knife laws) and i nearly bought the gayle bradley 2. i am wanting a maxemet spydie....i am looking at the manix 2 tbh. the sage is better in the fact of the titanium scales but for me the manix 2 blade looks far better. the mxg and lynch clips ...how much do they cost you ??? not available here in the uk....shipping would probably be the same as the clip........but i do like them alot......great channel........stay safe my friend.........ian , uk. oh i also would like a lil native 👍 sage 1 maxemet or para 3 maxemet ? i think you would say sage i would say pare 3 , lol.
Killer Spydercos!! I found a 2014 Spyderco product guide&2014 ColdSteel magazine&dvd today. Got my RECON1&WorkSharp Precision a couple days ago now your vid&the product guide I found today got my Spidey itch aggravated. Think the Tatanka if its available will be my second Spyderco. I had a ladybug.
Been on a waiting list for a Smock for a couple months. They came up for sale and were sold out in 10 minutes. Back on the waiting list. Nice list!! 👍🇺🇸👍🇺🇸
Great video! SpydieChef is #1 in my list to pick up, I guess I'll have to add the GB2. For me #1: Sage 1, #2: Native 5, #3: Techno 2. I had my Swayback chopped, I don't carry the Shaman often as it's a bit too big for me, and I just got a Lil' Native so not sure how I feel yet. But I think the most solid lineup is Lil' Native, Native 5, Sage 1 and/or 5 and the Shaman. Cost effective, G10 or light weight options, get to experience different locks.
Manix 2, Para 3 and Endura. Really like the way that Sage looks. Will most likely get that and the Kapara. Love how Spyderco brings out the different steels.
My current favorite is the spydiechef, it’s a unique beast, and stays classy yet functional. It’s easy to dress up or down, and the blade geometry is solid. It won’t happen, but if there was a maxamet or k390 spydiechef, I’d empty my back account 💀
Love my Chappie in white and black g10 w the mother of Pearl etc. Super sharp, tough, small, and beautiful. Also, looking forward to the blue titanium chef with LC200N, which I ordered the other day. I have a feeling that may go up, but who knows if I’ll use it to the point that that’s moot. Either way, they make great knives.
Ordered a sun and moon Chaparral today after wanting one for a long time. I was afraid it would get discontinued and I would miss out.. which is happened to me numerous times due to procrastinating. 👍🏻
Nice list! Never dared buying a Maxamet blade as I am not sure I would be able to sharpen it. Plus de fact that it’s more brittle than regular S35VN. I have a spyderco tri angle sharpener, would that work?
Honestly, no it would not really be a good choice for maxamet. I had a tri angle sharpener and it made reprofiling anything a major pain. Upgraded to a KME and I can sharpen any steel in about half an hour
Great list! Your top two are the next 2 Spyderco on my wish list. For the ones I have it would be Smock, Kapara, and Para 3 in S45, St. Nicks Manix 2 would be my honorable mention. I would love a Sage 5 in an upgraded steel instead of the Para 3.
I own a Manix 2 LW, and I like it a lot, but I’m torn as to which mini I should get, the Native 5 or the Sage 5! Which would you get Stassa if you had to choose?
My gayle Bradley met the Dremel diamond and the got taken home by the dremel scotch brite pad, thumbs are happy. The Caribbean is a keeper beyond your top ten.
The hollow grind and blade shape on the swayback has been getting a lot off pocket time for me lately. It was made for opening packages and cutting up cardboard.
Love the channel and content and seek your expert opinion, please. I live in Houston, which has a similar climate to where you’re at, I believe. How has your Maxamet held up in humid conditions? I’m strongly considering a Para 3 or Sage 1 in Maxamet, but I’m obviously concerned about the material’s corrosion resistance, of lack thereof. I appreciate your advice….
It will patina quickly in areas which doesn’t really hurt however if you sweat a lot then it may not be the best knife to get. I spray mine down with Aegis solution EDCI and it helps but I’m not outside a lot since my accident. Not sure your sharpening experience but it is also a tuff steel to sharpen but as long as your using diamond stones you can get the job done. Hope this helps 👍🏻
Hey Stassa, I just saw my favorite of all and it’s the spyderco spyopera! Love it! Lion steel in Italy makes that knife. I also love the sage 5 lightweight, and the shaman, and the Gayle Bradley. I think he made a flipper version. Love wire clips and compression locks.also love, love, love, the swayback!!! As far as a older one I’d love to see spyderco Drunken cpm-s90v, carbon fiber & titanium msrp $629.95 and the positron cpm s30v carbon fiber.Be Well, Dominick
In my opinion the Dragonfly II is one of Spyderco's most underrated knives for an EDC. It's a great knife for most people's day to day task, it's lightweight and it's inexpensive. My top 5 EDC's that I carry. 1. Protech Manual TR3 2. Brous Blades Mini Division 3. Brous Blades VR-71 4. Spyderco Dragonfly II 5. CJRB Feldspar small (for $32 you can't beat this knife)
The Dragonfly is most certainly a great knife and it’s probably my most used Spyderco. The only reason the Lil Native beat it out in this list is that I prefer Rex 45 or S30v over my VG10 dragonfly and the Native was a gift so that’s another reason. I think when the k390 Dragonfly comes out I’ll definitely be picking one up. I use to have the ZDP one and I loved it. As far as a lightweight edc blade it’s hard to beat 👌🏻
@@Stassa23 Yeah i paid $109 and some change at bass pro shop here in Kc. I really like the blade size along with the feel of the knife due to my large hands. I appreciate your feedback. God Bless
