How many of you remember his sad and very worried face for a 'Fast bowling allrounder' in Test. And when a Media person asked him to develop one. He replied "Ab nahi hai to kahan se laau". Hamein majburi me Stuart binny se test khilana pada. Those days. One of the reason I praises Kohli-Shastri. They not only developed 20 wickets taking bowling unit(mostly pacers) but also started looking for fast bowling allrounders. In a span of few years we got comeptition of them like Hardik-Shardul-3D shankar-Chahar-Venketesh Iyer-Dube- and now Reddy. Out of which Hardik-Shardul did serve well in Test as well.
Just a suggestion - Show the score card or some images from those matches when you talk. It helps the viewers to stay connected and recall their own memories of those matches
Dhoni in tests was a joke... He got a great team to begin with... He didn't made any big players... Played defensive and this costs india the games we could have won... Dhoni's tactics were more suitable for t20 games... In tests you need hard work...
Rohit Sharma, Ashwin, Jadeja, Shami,Hardik laughing at the corner....These players all developed under Dhoni's time. Especially the JadejaAsh duo developed under him.

MSD was only good white ball captain and only good batsmen in odi and he was poor batsmen in test and t20 , but his captaincy and his vision has surely changed the fortune of his carrier and Indian team that’s why he special despite his poor form in batting for many years
He wasn’t poor test batsman. 38 average in 90 test matches as a keeper batting at no.7 isn’t bad. Not many wicket keepers got 35+ average who played over 90 test matches. Actually MS batted very well in the last couple of years in test cricket. As a T20 batsman for India he was poor. But when you include IPL matches then he was a good T20 batsman also.
Dhoni would not have been in the playing XI in test if he was not the captain. His peak was from 2007-11. After that he should have retired from test cricket. India wasted Saha for 4 years. Dhoni- Srikanth was the worst combo. They did not even have a back up wicketkeeper in case of an injury for 2011 world cup.... It was sheer fortune that India won

India winning at home esp overseas matches started only under Ganguly. Before he took over, in the 90's, India used to get whitewashed overseas. Kohli is definitely maintaining that attitude now.

I believe there was an article in Cricinfo or something, which was a loosely Elo-rating inspired ranking of Indian captains in Tests, where performance was taken into consideration alongwith relative strength of the opposition teams.......Ganguly, Kohli, Wadekar were at the top, Dhoni was at the bottom......I believe Kohli's captaincy's highlight was also the improvement of Ashwin in SENA countries.....Ashwin in SENA in Dhoni era vs Ashwin in SENA in Kohli era is something.....
I remeber these 2013-14 series of nz and saf were not seen even by avid cricket watchers as political scene of 2014 elections was on peak. I used to think at that time that Dhoni could have lost his captaincy had those series were talked about.

At least someone with facts gives the flaws of Dhoni Captaincy in red ball cricket. But ironically, we are No. 1 in white ball cricket. And yes, by stats also, Dhoni is the worst ever captain of india in overseas. And I still don't understand how gambhir, sehwag and yuvraj and harbhajan dropped from test team, after 2011 WC, Dhoni remains as test captain till 2015. Because it never happens that a captain lost 2 series 4 nil back to back and still remain the test captain and in the playing 11. Sachin is exceptional but he resigned after 2 test series loss. That four years were nightmare for me.
MSD is the 2nd indian captain with the highest number of test match losses (18). He lost 4 test series consecutively & still retained his captaincy! Extremely lucky guy 😏
@dadajith0108 Yes, extremely lucky or don't want to give up captaincy. And srinivasan is president. No one take captaincy from sachin, but he give it to Ganguly. Dhoni should have passed the baton after Australia series in 2011 but we can't say what happened. It's just the worst phase of life.

I'm glad he made the comeback of his life & retired gracefully. However Dhoni was in poor form since 2011..playing test innings in t20's & ODIs.. pathetic overseas test player..yet, he stayed captain & a player in tests till 2015 with so many whitewashed series & played till the 2019 WC at 39. Unbelievable luck he has! Lol. I still wonder why Dhoni wasn't treated the same way as Ganguly.

The team created & built by Ganguly under his captaincy won 2002 CT, reached 2003 WC & 2000CT finals, won 2007 T20 & 2011WC apart from winning test matches at home & overseas against fiercely strong teams. No whitewash in his captaincy unlike Dhoni. He did all this when IPL didn't even exist in his era & got the worst team post match fixing scandals. MSD had it easy as he had a set team handed to him by Ganguly, IPL exposure & it had become popular by then, he could've easily assessed & picked fast bowlers from there if he found any.
