I love the idea of focusing on favorite authors!! I am letting myself reread favorites books this year. Somehow I got it into my head that rereading is a waste of time because there are so many new books. But reading is never a waste of time! 📚📚💛💛

you’re absolutely right! i also have a hard time with this. i just want to find more new stuff, but i reread fanfic all the time and LOVE it. so i’ve been trying to remind myself that revisiting faves is important and can make me feel soooo much better.

Plain Bad Heroines looks INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!! I cannot wait to pick that up. I added Don't Call Us Dead, thank you for the rec because that sounds absolutely fantastic. I started at the very back of my TBR (3000 books long lol) for this year and have been focusing on backlogged older books. So thanks for keeping me up to date on some new ones!

plain bad heroines was a 5 star read for me, i read it in 2 days while i had school. it’s absolutely incredible. i loved mexican gothic and i’m really excited to read gods of jade and shadow soon!

I feel this goal so much because I'm horrible about getting a huge emotional rush about a new author and then the follow up book doesn't live up to that emotion so I'm constantly reading only one book lmao. Pet, Darius, and Plain Bad Heroines are on my shelves. This makes me want to bump them up.

i remember jesse from bowties and books discussing it a while back and they were emphasizing how much of the plot is left out by other reviewers! especially knowing that Elizabeth Acevedo’s other books have really surprised me with multiple themes and plot lines.

Danez Smith is incredible! So is Akwaeke Emizi -- I read their three novels last year and I'm really looking forward to their memoir. A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor is also on my TBR -- I really need to get to it because AART was amazing

Darius the Great Deserves Better somehow managed to be better than the first one! I also loved Don't Call Us Dead! I recently read With the Fire on High and enjoyed that one, very different from her typical verse format though. The same good writing though.

Sticking to authors you’ve enjoyed is a great idea! I wasn’t crazy about Mexican Gothic, but I thought I would enjoy some of the author’s more fantastical writing, so I had also put Gods of Jade and Shadows as one of my must-reads for this year.

I think I was just so intrigued by Mexican Gothic! I read it at just the right time and I really got into the energy of it. But I feel like I'm going to enjoy her more fantasy-based stuff even more. Here's hoping we both end up liking Gods of Jade and Shadow!

I loooove the idea of going back to authors you love already!! our 2021 lists are so similar 😭 ☀️ I need to get to Darius the Great Deserves Better ASAP too. Darius holds such a special place in my heart but it’s absolutely a case of “what if I don’t love it as much as the first one?!” that’s holding me back!
