Top 10 Broken RPG Party Members 

I thought I had made this clear in the video but Fie’s placement is based off of Cold Steel 1 & 2. I’m seeing a-lot of comments mentioning characters from the later titles.

The fun part with Rita is the casting itself. She always do a speach before cast, but when you activate de special, she just change all the speach for a "blablabla" before the cast.

Good list. T.G. Cid literally joins your party and wipes the end of the game. You dont need to change his equips, moves etc. He's just that good.

Decent list, but I think Orlandu should have been top spot; for all the reasons you mentioned and, no setup is needed. He is game-breakingly lethal right out of the box!

Cream The Rabbit in Sonic Chronicles The Dark Brotherhood. Her refresh ability restores the whole parties MP including Cream herself and you can upgrade skills level 3 refresh costs 8 MP to cast but restores 15. Funny enough she's completely busted in Sonic Advance 2,she a part of the easy mode in Sonic Heroes,she's top tier in Sonic Battle and even after nerfing her in Sonic Advance 3 the best duo in the game is Knuckles and Cream with Sonic and Cream in second place. And she don't need no chaos emeralds.

Bleu from Breath of Fire II. She's the secret character, the returning one from the first game, and she is absolutely broken. Her special move, which is mostly just a gimmick in the case of the others, is a full heal that SLIGHTLY drops her defense for a turn, that you can use every turn. And she has a stat growth that will max her stats completely by the end even if you don't abuse stat up items.

T.G. Cid was so broken, when making a cameo appearance in FF14, they had to nerf him AND the entire alliance raid among all the ones in the game because people just left upon zoning in. It is the only 24 man raid with echo, a stat boost buff for the players. Only hard core raids and extreme trials ever get this treatment. Bonus: T.G Cid's theme is also the final boss from Vagrant Story. Basically saying, "This guy is the real final boss of the dungeon. The next one is just a victory lap." Seriously, this absolute Gigachad of a character...

You could add in your criteria the sooner they became broken and the more content there are in the game, the higher the character is on this list. For exemple, if a character is broken very late in the game and there is only the final boss to fight, well it's not really worth it.

Joon-gi Han in Yakuza: Like A Dragon is obscenely busted. He has a move called Head Trauma that only costs 6 MP and does insane damage to a single enemy, has access to 3 different damage types, has self buffs and can inflict status ailments...and that's just his default class.

In Breath of Fire III, Rei with a master that boosts agility and the correct battle formation can make everyone in your party have an extra turn, every single turn. You basically build him to be too fast for even the final boss, then slap the Chain Formation to make the other party members just as fast. Absolutely busted.

Damn straight Erik is broken. Once he gets set up, he just absolutely melts basically everything.

One key element to Fie's evasion that sets her apart from others is that she can counter regardless of range. She is the only one who can counter evaded gunfire or long range attacks regardless of where she is on the field. You can do that similar setup with Crow, but there's definitely a reason you've picked her. Rean would avoid it but wouldn't encounter, and it won't occur until cold steel 3 and 4, but in the first two entries Elliot and Emma wouldn't be able to evade everything

Just throwing out this idea, why not make this a series. There are so many broken characters in video games. You could get more content just for that alone. I like your videos. I recently started doing the Trails series, and your videos helped me decide what my final party members are going to be in endgame cold steel 1 and 2, as well as Sky FC.

What I love about the post-Cold Steel Trails is that the EVA Tanks became something like the norm (I haven't played the last two, Kuro no Kiseki 1 and 2, so I don't know if you can still EVA your way to victory). But the broken fun in those games only starts with the EVA Tanks. There's ATS cannons, Craft Machines, Bait Tanks, Assists, Orders, Debuffers, True Domination-Rean (because of the name of the quartz you use), and so on. The key to completely break the game is to mix the EVA Tanks with the others, then you are essentially untouchable, and can blow holes into the opposition with impunity, and without ever being targeted or allowing the enemy room to even sneeze. Hell, make your EVA Tanks also Bait Tanks with the Aegis MQ, and just watch as the enemy tries to kill an unouchable counter machine while everybody else nukes them. Reverie is especially broken in this area, what with the sheer amount of playable characters and quartz, master or otherwise. You can imitate some of these broken things in the pre-Cold Steel games (the Sky trilogy and Zero and Azure), but it's only from CS 1 that the devs made them a "let's break the game" competition. In Sky you had Joshua, Agate, Kevin, Kloe, Renne and Richard (in Sky 3rd), and in Zero and Azure each SSS member is pretty much breakable with the right MQ/Quartz/Equip combo.

Poppi really only gets broken once you sink an insane amount of time into upgrading her... Add to that, the fact that she doesn't even become available until literally the final dungeon is unlocked, so you would have to spend many hours grinding crystals and other materials with the horrible Tiger Tiger minigame to break her! Someone like Haar is more broken in my opinion, because you get him relativly early in the game, and you have to invest basicly nothing in him before he breaks the game. So i think a good criteria to add for lists like this, is also the effort involved to get the character, how early you get them, and how much time and effort you need to invest in them to become good.

One of my favorite ways to replay FF8 is too give Zell the HP- Junction Ability ASAP, refine 100 Curagas, and keep him critical for the rest of the game. Just melting Boss HP with Armageddon Fist

Maria is such a beast and fun to use. Her Energy laser is so mean.

BOF 3 was my fave RPG back in 2009-2010... Peco was also my fave post-game tank especially on how fricking broken he is... He can literally counter any physical attacks and a great meat shield... Thanks to you I'm thinking of replaying this game again!

RE:Orlandu: He's also the only character I know of, who can end a boss battle in a single turn. One of the later fights in the game, against one of the zodiac knights, the caster mage, if you put Orlandu in a specific spot in the starting lineup, he will go first, and be in range to hit the boss with the armor break attack he has. This will always one-shot said boss, instantly ending the battle.

I expected Rikku from FFX to make the list. If you know her good mixes you can beat the game without using the sphere grid.

Valsu Saizer from 7th Saga. Late game he gets a spell called Elixer, and it fully heals a character. Seems simple, but here is the catch; it also fully restores MP, including the MP used for the spell itself. As long as you have access to Elixer, you have effectively unlimited MP.

Can't wait for the next list! I wonder how high Velvet Crow will rank. Because there's no way she isn't on the most broken MCs list.

Rose from Tales of Zestiria is one of my favorites, spamming her Dream Slasher does insane damage at times.

Ayla from Chrono Trigger. Her being able to one-shot any boss in the game, including Lavos's left bit in his final form (though this requires her to be Lv99 to do so and for her to score a critical hit), is a cherry on top. She's got way more than just that: only Robo beats her in HP and Defense, and nobody beats her in raw physical damage. She has a decent heal, and can AoE heal IIRC when Dual-teching with Frog. Her dual-techs with Chrono have nice AoEs, and she also gets a couple good Duals with Robo. She's also the only character who can fight without equipment during that scene where you're escaping capture (though her lack of armor means it hurts when she gets hit during that sequence and she has to fight alone, but it's better than getting caught by the guards without equipment). Robo himself comes in a very close 2nd, that AoE solo heal of his is amazing as he's the only party member in the game to solo AoE heal, and he makes for a great tank and healer both. Just give him a few speed tabs to counter his slow speed.

I'd say Yuna is actually stronger than Wakka, especially since most people will be playing the HD version these days where certain Aeons got buffed. Anima and the Magus Sisters can now do multiple hits of max damage, summoning is the easiest way to get around devastating attacks, and Aeons can often solo bosses throughout the story.

To go to an earlier game in the Legend of Heroes Trails series... Kloe in specifically Trails in the Sky FC is REALLY op. Well, it's more like her pet bird Sieg is. In FC, that Kaempfer attack that Kloe has essentially makes your opponent do 0 damage to your whole party while simultaneously skyrocketting your own attack back. That attack CUT YOUR OPPONENT'S ATTACK AND DEFENSE IN HALF. And the way the damage calculations work, even small changes in attack/defense would drastically increase or decrease the damage dealt to someone. That bird got nerfed into the ground in the sequel where it went from -50% for both atk & def down to a measly -10% and -15% for atk & def respectively, which goes to show how OP Kaempfer was in FC.

Zerase in Suikoden 5 is pretty and broken. Use her for easy mode.

Erik's combo in DQ11 is the reason i immediately started a 2nd playthrough after beating the game. It was something i figured out far to late in my 1st playthrough, and i wanted to abuse it early in my 2nd playthrough.

As well as having insane dodge potential, Fie is a natural speedster, only beaten by Sarah amongst the core class 7 team, if I remember correctly. Her weapons have two "damage types" for unbalancing at mid-proficiency, which meant she was triggering support strikes more regularly than those with a single damage type at higher proficiency. I usually built Fie in speed, dodge, and crit and paired her up with Laura who is fully built in power and crit. Everyone in my party had one gem that caused delay + disrupt. This meant that Fie could strike at least 4 times before the enemy could... and each time she had a big chance of dragging the high-powered Laura into the strike... some bosses simply couldn't act... especially those that relied on crafts and arts, as those would always be interrupted either by Fie, Rean, or Sarah. Laura rarely had a turn but tanks to Fie, she always actively participated in the fights in a major way, support striking 10k+ damage when Fie did about 3k and Rean 4 to 5k. Any time I could get that formation, it would be smooth sailing until I couldn't use it. (Cold Steel games have a tendency to strip half the team from the available pool until the final part of the game and the school chapters.)

Raquel Wild Arms 4, KOSMOS Xenosaga 3, and Freya Valkyrie Profike 1 and 2.

Yuna from FFX is way more broken than Wakka. Aeons in that game are just stupid strong busted. If you play with her every battle, the game becomes a cakewalk. Plus there's Yojimbo.

Woohoo! A trails shoutout :). Fun fact, evasion tanking isn't even the most broken thing you can do in the first two cold steel games... It is the most forward-facing broken thing that helps many players through the game, but "quick casting" arts builds with Emma, Elliot (or whatever casters), Domination stacking (Cold steel 2 only) with Laura (to one-shot bosses with s crafts), and delay stacking with Rean make evasion tanks kind of obsolete (your opponent's never getting a turn is "better" than never getting hit xD). Evasion tanks are still broken though, since you can't do those other things until later in the games xD.

Poppi is the best, broken or not!!!!

Peter from Shining Force 2. A flying beast of an attacker that can tank hits due to high HP, decent Def, and has a natural resistance to fire spells..

Haborym from the original PS1/SNES Tactics Ogre is a beast. Incredibly fast, and with Petrify magic can disable most of the enemy team by turn 2 or 3.

Citan from Xenogears, anyone? Seriously. When he first joins you, he fights with his fists, because using his actual weapon, the katana, is even more broken. On-foot battles, nobody else comes close to the kind of damage he can dish out, other than maybe Rico. But unlike Rico, Citan is way faster so he ends up being better. He's got good defense, good HP to go along with that monstrous offense. That is, until, you get Billy who is even more busted thanks to his AoE heal. Though, one could argue that you *need* those AoE heals to survive the Id fight soon after.

dq11 also has a jade outfit whith the effect of making her completly invincible, definitly the most broken a character can be, obviously its locked behind the hardest secret post game fight so you wont do anything with it but still

Poppi is the most broken character in RPGs... if you actually play the stupid, boring, and annoying mini game of Tora. I couldn't; sorry, it is that bad.

In Namco x Capcom, Kos-Mos is absolutely busted. You can't lose if you have her on your team!

Also, Rikku is more busted than Wakka in FF10.... she has 64 potential overdrive when you learn the system of her mix and it's her alone that allows you to NEVER need break HP limit and break MP limit for any fight. Wakka is stronger on the damage front, but Rikku is overall more busted. plus, she can let you deal 9999 damage with every hit very early in the game, which compounds onto wakka's overdrive at a time where you're probably struggling to even get 1000 in a hit.

In “Trails of Cold Steel 2” I abused the heck out Fie’s broken stats. I maxed out her AGL/Evasion to 90% which essentially made her impossible to hit. Then I put all of the rest into her impede stat. This made it so the enemies I fought hardly ever got a turn. I just wailed on them. It didn’t work on the actual final boss however. Since it was immune to impede and had an AOE attack that would rarely ignore evasion/agility. Even with that she was still broken. Plus I’d have Jusis and Emma constantly casting physical and magical barriers on the party whenever it was needed.

I recognize a lot of these picks, either from having played the games they came from (Rita, Tressa, Eric, Fie, Poppi) or learning of their absurd reputation through osmosis given how many RPGs I play (Thunder God Cid, Zell). I don’t see people talk about Trails often so seeing Fie in particular on this list was a very pleasant surprise. In the Cold Steel era of the series evasion tanks can become truly absurd, and Fie’s increased range for counters makes her incredibly broken as an evasion tank. And if you thought CS1/2 Fie was already untouchable, the later games (CS4 and Reverie especially) allow for her to access even more ridiculous builds. It’s a case of a strong character only getting better with time. Between that and her easily being one of my favorite members of Class VII, it’s little wonder she stayed a permanent fixture of my team whenever possible. XD

If you think Fie is nuts in CS2, you should see Juna in CS3 or Crow in CS4.

I gotta disagree with number 8. When playing casually, Meru will certainly be your best character. She's got the most speed and her final addition is the best *multiplier* in the game (but keep in mind that her low strength mostly balances this out). However, her fatal flaw is joining late. She doesn't join *that* late, but the actual most broken character in the game just happens to join almost right away: Shana. At just 5 less speed and noticeably higher magic stat, Shana is a real life nuke that trivializes the entire game. You get her before the first boss, and the game practically begs you to spam magic items with her because her regular attack is by far the worst (and least fun) in the game, and they always happen to give you the item that's strong against the next boss. The only downside to the Shana nuke is that the 32 item limit requires you to know the game well enough to manage your inventory in a way that allows you access to the items you need. As a bonus, once you get Meru, she can assist with the magic spam, but Shana is still the star of the show by far.

If you are talking about the mother of all evasion tanks, you are talking about Mao from Shining Tears. Form a party with her as the lead and Elwyn as your backup as a lethal gatling gun and you can overrun all the enemies in the Heavenly tower no problem

Fie in CS 2 was how I got into her story more and love her as a character. I didn't even got full evasion like you said in set up, but she had an evasion state of like 65 percent and was BUSTED

Fie was my favorite character even before seeing she could be an evade tank. Still works in 3+4, also with Reverie but you don't get her til late there. Kurt can do it also.

I discover the exploit of EV of cold steel thaks to you. I wanted to cry while I remember how I left out Fie from my team after seeing how easy she can overcome the bosses. Great video!!!

I can't wait !! As a kid I wasn't aware of God Peco in Breath of Fire 3 I knew there could be something there but I just couldnt connect the pieces! I juat loved Ryu, Rei, and Nina ! Also still wishing I could beat the Unicorn Bros. as kid Ryu and somehow get Teepo as a permanent party member !

In trails of cold steel the same thing can be done with Rean the main character. However, upgrading Lauras attack, giving her the quarz for the first attack deals double damage plus the vanishing quarz you can easily one shot bosses, even in late game. My favorite combo of the series is pairing her up with 100% evassion Rean. Never fails

Great video, I'm looking forward to the top 10 worst party members video, I just hope you don't include Edward(Gilbert) from Final Fantasy IV because he's one of my favorite characters in that game😅.

TG Cid of course is GOAT. Peco could be overlooked until you realize that he's getting massive stat boosts every friggin level until he's just completely unstoppable.

A honorable mention could be Pleinair in the first Disgaea. She comes with S rank in Guns and a huge Hit growth, and you can get her as soon as you can NG+, which if you let the first chapter boss beat you can be as early as half an hour into the game. Then you can start using her as your main damage dealer since Hit controls both damage with guns and the chance to hit and crit on enemies. Sure, any unit in Disgaea can become powerful enough to solo everything eventually, but Pleinair can carry you through most of that even before you start engaging with most mechanics.

Maria? Being used from AFAR? You don't know how to scatter beam spam if you're saying that.... you go POINT BLANK with that skill and get all 10 hits to connect. and assuming it's dealing 50k each shot, you're hitting for 2.5 million damage EACH COMBO. people SPEEDRUN with this attack

Legend of Heroes really is a breeding ground for OP characters with the power creep that kept going, especially from Azure onward with master quartz and how the bell quartz worked in that game, but Reverie really brings that to its peak. If not characters, combat features can be OP, from using brave orders and united fronts to be practically immortal, but I liked trying to theory craft broken builds as Reverie allowed practically everyone to become a broken monster to the point tier lists barely matter. One setup I had on one character allowed that single character to achieve 100% win condition by just having 60 CP on her first turn. Altina with Erda master quartz and caliburn/Beowulf sub (I prefer caliburn for space arts). You get a character that can infinitely sustain stealth with the CP buildup and their own EP. Literally just cast Ebon Shade once every 2 turns, using the odd turns for art casts. I was able to make it work even in the mid game without all the busted quartz and accessories. Because you don't need an evasion tank or a chained delay spam when the enemy literally turns into a braindead punching bag wasting all of their turns doing nothing at all. Also, in later games I feel Sara is a better evasion tank than Fie. Sara can self-buff with max str, max speed AND insight plus also has a ranged counter where Fie's self-buff grants stealth, which defeats the purpose of counter attacking. I end up using Fie for status spraying

I agree, Poppy is definetly broken. 8 billion is definitely a number. But I still love pulling out lucky seven in xenoblade 3 using capable hands, spam tachion slash and, if there is still an enemy alive after the doom effect, use final lucky seven and even superbosses die in two hits if i'm not using a chain attack. The animation itself of Noah gently touching the blade at the start is just magnificent.

Xenoblade 3: Noah -Noah for most of the game isn’t really amazing. However, once Noah gets Lucky 7, you basically win. It is an automatic AOE full driver combo. It is so utterly broken that it invalidates the rest of the game. Have a mob of monsters, you launch smash all of them at once and just kill them. Have a super boss? Buff yourself and then launch smash them and they are either dead and just about dead. Lucky 7 is one of the most broken things I’ve played with in massive JRPGs

I would offer up Bleu from Breath of Fire 2. Ridiculously high stats gets all the most powerful magics in the game well before everyone else and is nigh literally immortal because she can full heal herself at any time for no cost using Shed lol I would also say Geno might be more broken than Peach because of the Genowhirl trick letting him basically one shot every enemy in the game including almost all the bosses. And I think TG Cid might be too low.. When he gets high Brave stat, the Blade Grasp skill, Robe of Lords and the Eschuteon II he's unkillable. 95% chance to avoid any attack thrown at him with auto haste the most damage in the game bar a calculator and moves that can heal him back to full. Only thing near as busted is like Agrias with a similar setup and the Chantage because she becomes literally immortal with it but not as pants on head broken as Cid because he gets every swordskill in the game and his stats are just ridiculously higih. Half decently, let alone the utter broken setup I mentioned before Cid can solo the entire game with no issue and no in fight setup just set him free. Hell put his AI on auto and watch the slaughter.

If you ever do a part 2 of this, i have 2 suggestions from some games. 1. Battle Chasers Nightwar: Garrison for his ability to just destroy the damage limit with crit damage or Red Monika for her ability to stack on almost every status ailment in the game to deal every type of damage in ONE TURN. 2. Yakuza like a dragon: obviously itll be Joon Gi because guns go brrrrr.

I think Funguy from Chrono Cross deserves a spot. his natural stats are so high that he will hit the stat cap before level 99 Chrono Cross's party system makes almost every unit replacable so there is almost no reason not to use him once you obtain him halfway through the game. He does everything better than everyone else because his numbers are bigger.

"Eric can one-hit any boss" Proceeds to hit the enemy GAZILLION times.

Ryu's Agni form is totally broken which he had to use against final boss in order to get best ending. Peppita from Star Ocean 3, Robin from Fire Emblem Awakening, Elwin from Der Langrisser, War Lady from Disgaea 6/7, and Veronica from Dragon Quest 11 deserves to mention too.

Every video I watch mention xenoblade chronicles 2 makes me want to play it again more. One day. Hopefully before they remaster it on the switch 2

For Fie, I do see why you would think she's the best, as she is one of the few character that ca counter attack ranged attacks and has a 25% base evade stat, however I do think Rean might be best (in cs1 and 2 of course) because of one thing, delay, he can just delete enemy turn with his delay craft and some quartz impede, as well as still having 100% evade since everyone can have that in these games. You could also put in it Laura since she can, you know, one shot bosses with her S-craft at the start of the fight ?

Saw Fie in the title and I got flashbacks to the best evasion tank in the game. just plop her in the middle of a horde and watch them waste their turns trying to scratch her after-after images 😅

Alex from Lunar Silver Star Story is kind of broken once he gets his Dragon Spells. Glenn from Chrono Cross outclasses a lot of the characters and gets duel wielding of the Einlanzer. Maybe not seen as broken idk, but Jade from Tales of the Abyss can become a wrecking machine once he has his best spells from the scrolls and the item to give you the quickest casting time AND easy field of fonon generation with wind in particular.

There is one additional trick to Picco on BoF3. There is a skill that does damage based on either hp or def. Cannot remember exactly which one

Correct me if im wrong but Raigar from Enchanted Arms has an EX skill that reduces so much damage that the only problem is you breeze through the rest of the game. The post game dungeon was really difficult for me cause I was underleveled because of this.

The classic evasion tank Fie method. It kind of sucks in Cold Steel 1 because Fie couldn't do long range counter attacks in that game, but from Cold Steel 2 onwards Fie can pretty much solo any game she's in without you having to do anything.

I didn't think Rita was even an above average character tbh. If you wanted to go with a Tales of Character, I'd recommend Marta from the 2nd Tales of Symphonia. If you get enough speed casts on her she can cast like instantly, and with technical III she also has like infinite TP. Combined with that she can give your whole party autolife status makes it impossible to lose. And she can heal, support, and attack, too.

Something you neglected to mention about Eric is that his move Critical Claim is great in the mid-game for killing Metal Slimes and getting level-ups faster for everyone in the party

I would say Tita Russel is as broken as Fie if you make her a tank she can heal intterupt and if eqipped with wide item range make it so all your character can use extra ultimate attacks.

about star ocean 2, there are two op characters that are kind overlooked, noel and chisato, in this game mages suck, noel is a mage and kind a worst healer than Rena, however he can equip the best armor in the game the blood armor, you are imortal however your hp rapiddly drecresses, the point is, he has a party wide heal, and if you give it enough proficiency he can heal out the dmg of the blood armor, and chisato is know for her high dps, but never saw anyone using her imortal build, there is a weapon called the phantom slayer that you can find in the post game dungeon, this weapon also has the passive to heal you based on the damage you heal, so she can became imortal with blood armor, she can solo the superboss of that game with easy, of you find maria broken, let me say the combo chisato noel turns star ocean 2 in a idle game

Super Robot Wars games are usually not very dificult but Zeorymer in J is particularly so busted that one of the secrets of the game requieres the player never using it unless forced up to a point late game. Your reward? An even more powerful version of the unit called Great Zeorymer. Also Ideon in Alpha 3 starts combat pretty weak but as it fight it's special Ide gauge starts rising to the point that it get infinite energy and absurdly powerful attacks, one of witch can just out right hit the whole map if you position it right

Would you consider playing, and/or making a list for Tactics Ogre characters/content? It's a really underrated RPG

No mention of FF7 Barret with max materia and Ungermax spam doing max damage a dozen times in seconds and mimic forever. Also Tifa with Powersoul with critical hp and death sentence from Cursed Ring, doing 8X damage.

i know i mentioned it before but Elise is very slept on in trail to reverie that brave order is just so OP and basically free and it turns every character into a personal fie though tbh that game has so many characters i might not be aware of how good some of them are.

Well, Orlandu is mostly good because of the equiped Excalibur, give the weapon to another character an he also gets OP, so its more the weapon than the character itself, but if we tal about most broken party members than i would say its Red Chocobo in FFT, the from basic stats fastest with the longest movement reach character, with the Choco-Meteor who has a 5 tile range and ignores heights and does masive damage he easy breaks the game.
