I've head hulk 181 on my watch list for forever, and i agree with you that it will probably continue to correct..the question is, how long do I wait? It's a gamble.

Great video Ryan! I think the main reason that Hulk #181 did not jump that much with the recent Wolverine announcement is that so many people put their copies on the market in hopes of cashing in. Wrong! There are literary hundreds of copies of Hulk #181 for sale on ebay that the market is definitely saturated. I could never understand why this book kept going up so much when it's so incredibly common. Demand seems to have softened because most of those who want the book already have one.

Great work, Ryan! I was looking at the Bronze Age and was trying to figure out what to go after. Hulk 181 and Spider-Man 129 was up there on my top 10 list. But your view was way more interesting. The green lantern 76 is historical because it marks the beginning of the Bronze Age. But no first appearances as you stated. I can’t wait until you do the next comic book age. It’s cooper age and beyond. Thank you for your content.

I have looked at the golden age comics and it was very expansive. How you talked about them is so very intriguing. Some I find historical and expressive. The good girl art and propaganda comics are great. Compared to the present day market, it is not so shocking because of access to so much data. I can’t buy like you but I do enjoy your passion for it. Thanks again and keep on doing what you love.

I've got 6 of the 10 books (none of the .35c price variants).....also not in that high of grade. Fantastic, informative video as usual!! Thanks for sharing!!

Do you tend to notice the scarcity in grade kicks in? Too 10%, 5%, or is it really more of a case by case? I figured that overall demand and such might really impact, but it’s seems that as long as the book has a certain level of notoriety and key status, that scarcity is very important. This is my long-winded way of evaluating my marvel spotlight 5 7.5 purchase. I’d intended it as a long term hold because he’s an awake character but also that VF- is absolutely an above norm level copy. However, a quick look at eBay shows there’s definitely a good number of higher grades available at the moment.

Very interesting and informative piece, thank you. I'm an OG fan of Scooby Doo, so I'll make a couple of suggestions for anyone who's looking to acquire a copy of Scooby Doo... Where Are You! issue 1. First, find an image of the opening page (it's not a splash page in this case) and commit it to memory, so that you can recognize a coverless copy. Then, check eBay listings for "lot of miscellaneous kids' comics" and "lot of coverless comics" and scrutinize the photos closely. Given that Scooby Doo issue 1 was published in 1970 and was aimed at a younger audience, I'm betting most copies got tore up within a few months of original purchase. On the plus side, I bet many tore-up copies, particularly coverless copies, are still floating around in the wild. Scooby Doo was a popular cartoon in 1970, and I expect that issue 1 sold well. My take on why this silly comic is so valuable -- Scooby Doo was one of several prominent late '60s TV shows that were aimed at kids but contained a little bit of hippie/psychedelic/flower-power flavor, enough to let an 8-year-old viewer feel hip and rebellious just by watching. Plus, the original run of the show was well-executed and memorable. For all those reasons, Scooby Doo and the gang have become a cultural touchstone, especially for people who were born in the early '60s and saw the original Scooby Doo two-year run on Saturday mornings in 1969 and 1970. By the way, the cover story on Scooby issue 1, "What a Night for a Knight," is just a serialized version of the episode of the same name, which was premier episode for Season 1.

Probably my biggest comic book regret is when I finished my marvel star Wars run right around 2001, I saw the 35 cent variant for like $50-$100 at mile high comics. And I passed as I already had multiple versions of Star Wars 1.

Thanks for this. Never like the inclusion of variants or price differences, but your list is value, not necessarily top 10. Fortunate to have everyone except Star Wars, iron fist 14, the $.35 edition, and cerebus. Definitely gave me an idea of future trading. Some of these books are great, but there is too many of them. I would rather narrow my collection down to keys, but ones that are not that commonly graded. Thanks again.

Cool. The only one of these I have is HOS 92 - probably about a 6-7, it's pretty great looking but for one small 1/4 inch tear on the back cover. At one point I was collecting Cerebus, but I only really got the bulk of issues from around 19-100, nothing earlier, and I don't love it enough to work backwards; and as an investment it seems a bit shaky. Would love to get a GL 76, actually the whole Adams run, but too rich for my blood. As for me I think I'll be looking a bit lower on the priciest-books list for possible investments.

First! And for me the best book on the list is asm 129 for investment. The defenders series was super popular and the punisher is definitely the fan favorite because he does what no other character can do he just streight up killed evreyone and was the fast and furious of marvel not a great story but explosions are cool

What is your opinion of collectors buying the first issues of various books with the first time they carried the Vertigo imprint? I'm continually wondering if this is something worth seriously considering. Generally, these books don't seem to have a price difference (before or after) because of this. Of course, this is pure speculation. But I keep thinking about whether in decades to come these will be generally considered the same as the "First EC Imprint" books. Meaning they delineate a key point in comic book history.

Maybe the very rare 35 cent variants should have it's own category. Wow I have 5 out of 10 Scooby included. All of them lower grades below 9.4. Looking for Cerebus 0.5 or lower if that's possible 😄. But I will follow your advice wait for cerebus for another 5 years.

Great research, Ryan. Why do I remember a Marvel Spotlight 5 in a 10.0? Was it a Ghost Rider 1? By the way, the v in Aardvark is pronounced f. It means Earthpig in Afrikaans. Craziest superhero ever.

I thought for sure TMNT 1 or Gobbledygook 1 or both would be on this list. When do you consider the Bronze age to have ended? I personally think Copper age starts with Crisis on Infinite Earths.
@AutomaticComics
@AutomaticComics Год назад
Those are generally considered to be copper age. I think of TMNT as one of the properties that kicked off the copper age. For marvel I think many consider it to be secret wars.

@@AutomaticComics ok but what do you think would sell for more the 9.9 Hulk 181 or if a 9.9 gobbledygook existed?
@dandelatorre1870
@dandelatorre1870 Год назад
Even though Ghost Rider is a lower level character than Wolverine or GSX that will change. With the recent popularity of Horror, watch Spotlight 5 continue to rise in value and demand. It will match Hulk 181 at some point because there are less available.
@AutomaticComics
@AutomaticComics Год назад
I still don’t think that will make him a more popular character than Wolverine or the X-men. Book values may go up just because of rarity (which is why it’s above those two on the list already) but popularity wise he’s still a lower tier character (IMO).

There are different 35 cent prints. Some came later). You need to make sure it’s the correct one. I’d recommend doing a little research on them to make sure. Since they’re extremely rare, it’s more likely they are the later reprints. But if not, congratulations 👍.
