The Top Two of your 25 are real treasures Automatic! I remember commenting on both the Red Hood Detective and the Weird Tales Captain America when you originally showed them. Beyond impressive! Thanks for imparting so much knowledge this year -- it's been a fun ride! Much success and happiness in 2023 Automatic 👍
They definitely do fit (just barely). If they have a spine roll they won’t, but this one doesn’t. I measured it and it’s within the parameters for a standard slab. They’ve just been lazy IMO and throwing a lot more golden age books into the magazine slabs lately. I’ve seen others complain about it as well, but you can send it back in to have it reslabbed in a standard case.
Great video. On All-Top: Perhaps Baker purposely included only 7 octopus legs because the good girl leg is the 8th. Sometimes artists aim for symbolism over realism.
Awesome top 25 list Ryan. Im thinking of testing the waters of the Atomic Age a subcategory of the Golden Age. What is the most iconic and valuable nonhero comic in the Atomic Age excluding DC and pre marvel books? We all consider Action Comics 1 for GA and Amazing Fantasy 15 for SA as biggest key books but no idea for Atomic Age. Love to acquire a low grade 2.0 or below of Detective Comics 122 maybe you might know where to find one at reasonable price😄
Well my friend he owns a comic book store for 30 years in Norwalk Connecticut he cracked Iron Man 1 6.5 CBCS He had the book pressed and it came back 7.5 from CGC
The Crime 22!!! 5.0 is still an excellent grade. If I can ever upgrade my 5.0 someday, I will. It's easily in my top 5 precode horror covers of all time. And my personal fav obviously lol. Too bad the grade didn't work out man.
And just hope you didn't pay a ton for it...bright side...5.0s are going for around anywhere from 5 to 7K range on the market. And in this climate, still selling fairly strong. Aaand....Crime 22 will always hold strong in the market and will go up in value over time IMO.
@@AutomaticComics oh wow...see I'm not on Instagram. I might have to get on there man. I bought my 5.0 for about 7K with taxes and fees through ebay. That's nuts. Book is doing real well.
Incredible books! Love that Spirit cover!!! I think Avengers 4 is really underrated compared to its contemporaries. Its still really affordable compared to it peers as well. Thoughts?
Great list! all sunshine & rainbows until CSS 22 as it re-opens “old wounds.” I almost entirely avoid buying raws anymore for the same reason. 9 times of 10 they come back at least 1 full point lower than advertised at which point the seller predictably hides behind the “grading is subjective” card. Can’t say I’ve ever experienced a reverse scenario. Convenient, I’d say, when they’re the ones who benefit. 😑
I always assume at least a full grade lower whenever I buy a book. That’s worked well for me in general. But I was hoping with those two books (the FF1 and the CSS) that they would be a bit more conservative with their grading given the cost of the book. But I was wrong. I’m lucky that the prices on CS22 have gone up a lot since I bought the book so it’s helped me out with that one. But I’ll never bend my rules again on live claim sale raws. Every time I do I seem to get burned.
Damn Ryan... You had an absolutely stellar year collecting! I love the Spirit 22, Eerie 1, Blue Beetle 54, Crime Suspenstories 22, and Cap 74. Picking up any of those books in a single calendar would be amazing - and you got them all!! Thanks for another fantastic video. Looking forward to seeing what you find in 2023!
Love watching your videos every week. Anyway some of the sales the last couple of weeks are very strange I think the market might be coming back definitely on amazing fantasy 15. First of all I told you before I had a copy of tales to astonish 27 7.5 and go collect had the market value at $9000 a couple of years ago I got rid of it a couple of years ago remember I don’t work anymore I’m not a bartender so I can’t buy stuff like I used to. Well 7.0 just sold for $20,000 but I told you 7.5 CBCS sold for under $9000 on Comic Link a couple of weeks ago and it looked much better than my CGC 7.5 . OK the good news amazing fantasy 15 .5 just sold for $16,000 that’s a few thousand more than the last sale. Anyway if you have any copy at all of amazing fantasy 15 I would not panic I would not sell the goddamn thing.
Hi Ryan, just wondering why you don’t consider returning books to a seller when you have the book in hand and realize it was graded too high (or I suppose the other alternative would be to ask for a portion of your funds back to compensate for the lower grade). I’ve done it before, and now I’m really careful about buying any expensive raw books unless I trust the seller’s grading.
I have before if it’s egregious. But with this book I didn’t care if they said it was a 3-3.5. I assessed the book myself by the pictures on eBay and thought it was probably a 2.5 and I was happy with the price I paid for it thinking it was a 2.5. I never really trust anyone’s grading but my own. I also assume when I’m buying a book on a platform where I can’t see clear pictures (like Instagram) that the book is overgraded by at least a full grade and I pay accordingly. So I’m usually paying a price that I’m happy with even if the book is overgraded. And if it’s not overgraded, even better. It may mean I have to pass up on some books, but I’m much more likely to be happy with my purchase when I use this method.
Hi, I just wanted to reach out to you here as well. Your comment on the Fanalytics channel was selected for the Batman 200 giveaway. Please reach out to me on Instagram (my details are in the the video description) and I'll get that shipped out to you. Thanks again for watching and commenting.
Fully understand this move to Golden Age as due to scarcity seems logical place to move money whilst we are in such uncertain times. However it personally doesn’t really interest me. I hope when the market recovers we can start featuring Silver and Bronze Age as these are the characters that mean something to me
That’s the fun thing with comics, everyone gets to like what they like. Golden age has just gotten more appealing to me over time. It hasn’t been anything intentional from a stability side of things. It’s just worked out that way. However, I’ve definitely been more wary of buying silver and Bronze Age books as prices have been coming down.
@@AutomaticComics fully appreciate the historical significance of GA books it’s just the nostalgia of SA and BA that pulls me in. Appreciate the content
The grader won’t know what the book was graded at when they look at it. Unless they specifically graded that book. But even then, they’d have to remember that one book out of the thousands and thousands they’ve graded.
Love seeing those pedigree books again. I'm jealous of the FF 1 and 2. Would love to own either of those books. Three of my top pickups came earlier this month: 7.0 (white) Avengers 10, 9.2 (white) Famous Funnies 134 Edgar Church (Mile High) pedigree, and a 7.5 All Good Comics 1 Carson City pedigree that has a beautiful red cover.
