#1 on TPU. Best thing I’ve tried in decades of riding. I really noticed the difference. Comfort bonus too.

I once bought some mavic ksyrium ust wheels, not only did they arrive with the tape and valves fitted, but also with the tyres fitted and mounted, and a bottle of sealant. Basically, I put the sealant in, (the bottles nozzle sealed against the valve), pumped them up and I was ready to roll. 🙂

I ride tubeless and I still think TPU tubes are the best to get, I carry a couple of emergency tubes just in case, and especially on gravel it makes it so much easier to carry them if they pack down tiny. I can carry 2 tubes in my saddle bag when I can only fit 1 butyl one in the same bag once you account for my tools

MAURTEN is ridiculously expensive !! This is the OPPOSITE of savings!! TPU tubes are as fast as latex, much lighter & now cheaper with the ones straight outta China which cost now 3 to 6€ a piece for 24 to 28g and are just as good as the « big brands » selling theirs for 20-30€…!! And they’re tiny so they fit in your back pockets

Not cheap in itself but cheap in comparison to everything else on the market. Magene PES P505 A reliable and accurate double sided spider based PM that takes Shimano rings for about £260 and you basically get a good, great even ROTOR-esque 24mm spindle crank for free (almost literally because the spider alone to fit other cranks is almost the same price 🤷‍♂). If you want a PM on a budget its a no brainer. 4000km+ of UK winter gravel on mine and it hasn't skipped a -beat- Watt and I think I've charged it twice.

Agree about TPU tubes. Fitted with "old-school" clincher tyres, they're slightly lighter than tubeless, have lower rolling resistance, and you don't have to mess with sealant and all the other pfaff involved with using a tubeless setup. (Note: if you have tubeless tyres already, don't bother switching to tubes; just stick to sealant and all the rest. In my experience, riding on clinchers with TPU tubes is heavenly, but running tubes in tubeless tyres is the worst of both worlds.)

" things you didnt mention, the new plastic tubes, have plastic valves which after, time rot where they are connected to the tube, and running tubeless at low pleasure may give comfort, and stop pinch flats, BUT Hit pothole, and you smash the carbon rim, dont get me started on hook less

Using adequate lubricants, saves frame damage and bearings. I replaced what was there, because for example the wrong grease, factory mechanics put it there, made its way into the bearings and was incompatible. Mixture was a mess. Moisture ate at balls and race. The greasy paste on the fork attracted and retained dirt -- had strip it, replace bearing, put some dielectric in its place and silicone on the headtube side. Amazing how much was brainlessly cargo-culted!

Here's an upgrade for you, and you already own it. Typically where I ride I can get water just about anywhere. Consequently, I only use one water bottle. The other water bottle I can put in the downtube cage and put snacks, gear, weed, whatever i can think of including tools. I also have a small padded black satchel, which will fit my iPhone. Sometimes I'll put that in the cage, and cinch it down with a couple of toe straps. No toe straps. You can cut large rubber bands from a innertube, by cutting the tube on bias, so cut a couple of rubber bands, about 3 inches in length, that's gonna hold your phone in. For you guys, that don't know what toe straps are, google it, and you'll find out why old guys like like me refer to them as clipless . Even though we clip in.

Of course, carbs are useful for quick energy. But bear in mind that athletes are known for sacrificing their bodies to enjoy immediate performance ! And most commuters in this real world have to face the dangers of things like sugar (made from non - nutritive corn , or tree sap ) . Enjoy the short 50 - year ride !

tubeless sucks--one of the biggest hoaxes on the cycling market. I've tried tubeless twice and couldn't change back to clincher fast enough. LBS laughed when I told them my new bike had tubeless. Sealant NEVER worked, then I had a flat or near flat tire covered in a sticky mess and couldn't work with them, they lose air on long rides, just awful.

@livincarter

Can't argue with your experience but mine has been great. I love tubeless. I think the installation and proper tire pressure makes a huge difference. Had several flats with my first four tubeless tires - installed properly but always had a higher pressure. Learned my lesson and haven't had any problems. Tubeless or not is another debate akin to rim brakes or disc brakes. There are cons and pros.... and then some.
