A harness is all well and good for an old dog. My young less than a year old border collie would just chew straight though it. The only option is a cage, or get the van chewed to bits, sleeps in a cage as well.

Loved your doggy travel top tips, My favourite and most ingenious is the towel ‘robe’ ..fantastic idea! Keeps the mud at bay and absorbs the water. Do you find Lucy is more quiet with it on? Like a thunder shirt idea? I agree with the harness, much more control and less pressure on her neck. I had to buy my wee Chorkie dog one as she kept pulling on her her lead and choking. I’ve nearly watched all your videos…Love every single one! X

You’re very welcome :) Lucy is a bit more subdued with it on, but I think that is more that she might not really enjoy wearing it rather than the thunder shirt effect, although it could be that.

Thank you. Very helpful. Can I ask where your gorgeous doggie sleeps at night in the van ? X

Of course! She loves the floor downstairs, on the Campervan Carpets mats. She’s never been one for chairs or the bench seat, she just stretches out and dreams the night away ☺️🐾

We’re thinking of getting a dog. When you went to Jersey, what happens when the dog need to go to the loo. PS: We have a VW T5 camper. Any tips would be great.

We took the fast catamaran ferry for exactly that reason, she was in the van for about 4 hours or so and that was fine. I didn’t want to subject her to the 9/10 hour ferry as she was getting very old by then!

Have her in a large soft crate, not loose in the car.

Are you ever leaving your Border in the car (for example if you visit something indoors where dogs are not allowed to join)? If yes, how is isolation / what are the max. temperature conditions that you would dare to do it? Do you also do it on sunny days? Is there enough ventilation if you pop up the roof?

Good question. Basically no, unless we are outside and near the van so we can leave windows wide open or the front of the roof canvas down. We've done this at a pub where we have had a table outside next to the carpark and we can keep our van in sight for the whole meal and know that it is very well ventilated. Wouldn't want to risk it otherwise - cars, vans etc get seriously hot very quickly.

@@CampervanTime ok... still looking for a solution to keep the California cool to be able to leave the dog behind once in a while (he does not mind, but temperature is really an issue... a pity that there is no air conditioning when parking the van)

Where does Rocy sleep at night when away on a trip?
@CampervanTime
@CampervanTime Год назад
Lucy used to sleep on the floor in the main living area, Roxy hasn't been away in a California yet, only the Grand we tested and she was in her crate under the bed at the back.
