It's beautiful how, 20 years later, Blue Eyes White Dragon and its Ultimate fusion are still the strongest non-effect monsters in the game. Kisara is happy
I'm amazed they haven't done a retrain of Gate Guardian considering how in the anime it was one of the original boss monsters and how much Konami has tried to keep those types of cards relevant. Or at the very least give it some sort of support to make it easier to summon. Heck when they first released xyz monsters I think they really missed a chance to retrain Gate Guardian as one considering how much its anime effects would have made it perfect for an xyz monster (e.g. You can have a monster's attack become 0 but everytime you do that you have to remove an xyz material)
Gate Chaos Guard [Rank 7] [Dark] [Warrior] ?/? 3 level 7 monsters -this card's ATK/DEF is equal to it's materials divided by 2 (e.g: you used neos, odd eyes and stardust (7500/2=3750) -once per turn, detatch 1 XYZ material, the attack of all monsters your opponent controls become 0 -if this card would be destroyed by battle or card effect, detatch 1 XYZ material instead -if this card's materials are a thunder, aqua and spellcaster monsters. this card can attack three times per turn and cannot be targeted for card effects
Gate Guardian of Chaos Rank 7 / DARK / Warrior 2 or more Level 7 Monsters 3500 ATK / DEF 2000 If this card has materials with original types as Spellcaster, Thunder, or Aqua, then this card can't be destroyed by card effects as long as those materials are on this card. Once per turn: You can detach one material from this card, target one monster your opponent controls, it loses ATK equal to the sent materials ATK. And if the ATK is 0, its effects are negated. (Quick effect): If this card is targeted for an attack, you can detach one material from this card, target the attacking target, its ATK becomes 0 during Damage Calculation only. If this card is destroyed by battle or effect, you can target one lvl 7 Spellcaster, Thunder, or Aqua type monster from your GY: Special Summon it.
Really nice feature means if i ever see Ultimate Falcon i can just skip that one cause well it's pretty obvious what his reasons are but knowing me i will sit here and wait until you explain it again lol
How some of the cards reacted to their retrain Substitoad: “You’re weak” Tradetoad: “Im you” __________ Black Luster Soldier: “Who are you?” Multiple Luster Soldiers: “We are you but stronger” __________ Ultimate Tyranno: *Roars angrily* Super Conductor Tyranno: *Roars somberly* Ultimate Conductor Tyranno: *Roars smugly*
Blue Eyes: Burst stream of destruction Neo Blue Eyes: Burst stream of destruction, but saves a Blue Eyes Alt Blue Eyes: Burst stream of destruction, but doesnt get nuked afterwards
Well there is hope for the Tyrannos. As good as Ultimate Conductor Tyranno is, you can only have 3 on the field, and they don't take your normal summon. Just play one of the Evolution Pill cards and bring both alongside them. MUAHAHAHAHAH.
@@revthescatman137in order for it to be considered an archetype it must have a Spell or Trap card that lists its archetypal name in quotation marks and specifically refer to the archetype and not the monster. Like _Add 1 'Glacial Beast' monster from your deck to your hand_ or something like that. I don't think Glacial Beasts have one yet right?
I never forget Black Luster Soldier. It's my favorite card and I did secure a win with it in the 2022 synchro fest which was pretty cool! Super soldier is better, but OG just looks cooler. Besides it didn't hurt to run one OG in there with the 3 Supers just to increase consistency. He was just as strong with beginning knight and ritual Djinn buffs.
Another example, and this one's a trap card: "Drop Off" and "Drastic Drop Off" Drop Off is a NORMAL trap that only makes your opponent discard one card they draw during their normal draw in their draw phase. Drastic Drop Off is a COUNTER trap that makes your opponent discard one card any time they add a card from their deck to their hand including drawing from the draw phase.
he only did monsters (should edit title to retrained monsters), good explanation. I was thinking of trap hole with bottomless trap hole, or the mirror force upgrades. Nice to see youtube have sections to go over vid quicker.
Weirdly enough in the TCG we got Dark Magician of Chaos *before* Magician of Black Chaos. MoBC wasn't released in the TCG until 2007, despite the card being listed on Dark Magician Girl's effect and she was printed in the TCG all the way back in 2003.
Maybe not as prominent as most of these but I think Diabolos should have been somewhere on here. It's old version was horribly limited, not being special Summonable, it's tributes for it's summon had to all be dark (level 7, so 2). And all it did, was with 2800 attack and a tiny 1000 defense, was be untributable, and BEFORE your opponent's Draw, you would look at the top card of their deck, and keep it at the front or place it at the bottom. While it's Retrain, Darkest Diabolos was all about Special Summoning itself from your hand or GY, whenever you tributed one of your own monsters. At a higher level of 8 and attack of 3000, and 2000, it tributed one of your own monsters (could tribute itself as it was tributable this time) in order to force your opponent to send a random one of their cards, to the top or bottom of their deck! Making an almost impossible to play card, into a new rogue archetype deck centerpiece with Lair of Darkness, tributing your opponent's and your own monsters. My favorite Deck that actually is a great anti-meta deck that destroys your opponent's hand and field with Virus traps!
It took 3 card to get just _some_ of Ra's effects. Do we really need a 4rth to get the damn gaining tributed monsters atk effect, and whatever else it had? Maybe make it Summonable by alternatively banish tributing 1 Winged Dragon of Ra monster, except Sphere Mode.
@@Schwi02 nope. God slime is the depiction of the scene where yugi attacked marik with obelisk but then used the trap card slime to copy obelisk's stats and then fused with revival slime to be immortal

Woah, I'm no content creator so this is new to me. I've never seen a video where the timeline of the video is segmented into sections that you can name. I hope other RU-vidrs use this feature because its very helpful to a viewer. Thank you for taking the extra time to add this feature to your video!
9:18 you didn’t mention how there’s also a spell card “neutron blast attack” which basically gives blue eyes ultimate dragon the effect of Neo blue eyes ultimate dragon, which makes it just as powerful as neo. Plus blue eyes ultimate dragon you can tribute for blue eyes shining dragon, even if it is a bad card, so there’s another reason that OG blue eyes ultimate is more useful
One line of text would have made Apprentice Illusion Magician the best Dark Magician Support. "This card's name becomes "Dark Magician Girl" on the field or GY."
yeah that wouldve been nice, means you can use their quick play nuke without running the actual dark magician girl. but hey, I've gotten her up to 3100 attack before. how? 3 normal dark magician in graveyard...yeah I kinda flooded my board to the point where I had no room to eternal summon dark magician lol.
When I was a kid, I played a good amount of Original/GX era Yugioh with my dad, using pretty weak, casual decks. But his deck (which started life as a Yugi structure deck) was basically designed to get the original Black Luster Soldier out quickly, and considering the apex beater in my deck at the time had 2900 ATK, and my only real removal was Trap Hole, if he got BLS out, I basically lost the game immediately, barring specific combos that could edge it out. Considering neither of our decks could special summon basically at all, and any big tribute monster takes a lot of resources anyway, a 3k beater you could get out on your first turn with a good hand was insanely strong. Also why would you play Magician of Black Chaos back then when Black Luster Soldier existed? Archetype support didn't really exist and they have pretty much the same requirement anyway.
A list I'd love to see is actually a top 10 with cards whose mere existence forces all cards from then on to specifically change their text (eg: Frog cards saying their effect excludes "Frog the Jam") or that card that gave your opponent 2 battle phases which made cards say "during each battle phase" instead of "during the battle phase" and so on!
16:55 Wait, this reminds me, don’t “Dark” and “Curse” Necrofear kinda feed into each other’s effects, to the point where it’d make sense to have both on hand if you intend to use one of them? Dark: “Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must first be Special Summoned (from your hand) by banishing 3 Fiend monsters from your GY. During the End Phase, if this card is in your GY because it was destroyed in your Monster Zone by an opponent's card and sent there this turn: Target 1 face-up monster your opponent controls; equip this card to that target. While this card is equipped to a monster by this effect, take control of that monster.” Curse: “Cannot be Normal Summoned/Set. Must be Special Summoned by a card effect. You can target 3 of your banished Fiend monsters; Special Summon this card from your hand, and if you do, shuffle those banished monsters into the Deck. During the End Phase, if this card is in the GY because it was destroyed in your Monster Zone by an opponent's card and sent there this turn: Special Summon this card from your GY, then, you can destroy cards your opponent controls, up to the number of face-up Spells/Traps you control with different names. You can only use each effect of "Curse Necrofear" once per turn.”
Also, aside from the number of cards, most of the anime-only/original effects get boosted or nerfed, rarely directly translated. Sure a lot of the modern cards get put into the game accurately, or mostly the same, take Blackwings, Yuma's deck, and Yuya's decks as examples. But a lot of the "used to be anime only" stuff is either 1. Too situational and lack filler to be made. 2. Too difficult to adapt. 3. Too little know and not cared about 4. Written as a plot device item, not an intended physical card. Most of the modern stuff is made with the physical cards already designed and ready, or giving the writers clear limits and a good understanding of the rules and mechanics of the game. Comprehensible effect text is very important. Go read gen 1 / pre-PSCT effects compared to a modern card with a similar effect. Compare :if attacking a monster in face up or face down Defense position, double this cards atk during damage calculation, then inflict the difference between this attacking monster and the targets Defense points as damage to the opponent. To basically Inflict double piercing.
I've never watched the anime, so I don't know how the effects compare between the anime and card game, but I wonder if it would see more play if it had it's manga effect. Once per turn it can destroy every other monster on the field, and it has to destroy at least one monster or else it can't attack. It's certainly more useful than just hitting on defense monsters.
@@Deathmare235 it is a retrain It has the same exact name as the original except they added hot in the beginning of it name It has the same stats as the original And has a similar effect for destroying monster

In hindsight, one would think the "Rescue" cards would be related to recover cards from GY or banish zone ("rescuing" them) insetad of summoning from deck (Raiding them and going into the offensive, AKA Attaking.) Just saying
They rescue _you_ from an empty field (then again, the modern meta is all about swarming, so this might not be the most sensible interpretation, perhaps anymore).
Finally!!! Have been asking DL for this list since forever. 😂 Also, no shoutout for Retrained Celtic Guardian? The term was created based on the mistranslation of that card. 😄 Now prepare for a top 10 powercrept cards in YGO. 😊
Haven't commented here before, but I just wanna say that I love your content and can't stress enough how important it is that the Yu-Gi-Oh! community has such high production, high quality content thanks to you! I look forward to your uploads, thank you!!
It's not a retrain, it's Jack's boss monster from the manga so it wasn't made after Red Dragon Archfiend. Also it have 2000 DEF which is lower than the DEF of RDA
Alex Yu-gi-oh! Actually Hot Red is a retrain in the same way that Scarlight is a retrain. (Note: Arc-V doesn’t give any implication the original RDA exists in their universe) but for the purposes of the game, both Hot Red and Scarlight were created with the intention of replacing the original RDA and make them more powerful.
thats cause thats all the Manga only. it was already around during Red Dragon Archfiend's time. all the signers have a Manga counterpart dragon. Yusei has Stardust Spark Dragon, Jack has Hot Red Dragon Archfiend, Akiza has Black Rose Moonlight Dragon, Leo has Power Tool Mecha Dragon, and Luna has Ancient Pixie dragon, oddly enough being a dark instead of a light attribute.
@@ColetheFlame01 Yea, I know that. Although calling Scarlight a retrain and Hot Red not a retrain is just strange as both Arc-V and the 5D’s manga imply the originals don’t exist in their timelines. Although specifically looking at the game exclusively, it’s hard to say that Hot Red isn’t a RDA retrain (especially considering that you can argue that Scarlight almost feels more like a retrain Hot Red then the original)
@@Megamanlanprime you have to look at the anime and manga as essentially seperate timelines, I never watched ARC V so I dont know about Scarlight, also the Crimson Dragon's role in the anime solidifies this, in the anime, its the leader of the Signer Dragons and exists to defeat the Dark Signers and their Earthbound Immortals, but in the manga its known as Ultimaya Tzolkin and is the enemy of the Signer Dragons who were created to imprison the evil dragon. so yeah, the anime and manga are insanely different, so making the manga cards be called retrains is not true really in that sense. more of just either better or in some cases (stardust/stardust spark) worse effects than the anime alternatives.
Interestingly Ultimate Conductor is actually an amalgamation of three previous rexes. The unsung hero and the coolest in my opinion being IOC's Black Tyranno. The undertones of its appearance also tell the tale showing how far dinosaurs have trialed. You can see the three areas amalgamated into the attribute breakthrough tyrant. 1 - Ultimate (Red musculature and joint spikes) - Attacking all monsters your opponent controls. 2 - Super Conductor (Metallic plates and purple orbs charged) - 1000 LP infliction. 3 - Black - (Main body shape and armour scale colour, best shown having the most accurate shape of the skull that is closest to Black Tyranno and T. rex in general) - Controlling opponents monsters to defence position. The way I see dinosaurs behave is an ecosystem of powerful creatures that help each other when the going gets tough, akin to nature. Which is interesting as to how they can work as a whole for an archetype compared to others. Also thanks to your generous scans! Rex Raptor had a badass name but sadly that's about it. Which, unfortunately, is what one could have said about dinosaurs introduced by him, the creatures that everyone loves but metaphorically were not depicted the right way with a weak ass pussy. Imagine an archetype solely about Raptors or even Tyrannosaurs??!?
ummmm no, 5 headed dragon has an effect. it cant be destroyed by battle or maybe effect I dont remember exactly, by any attribute except I think dark and divine? I dont recall but it has an effect so unrivaled tenyi cant summon it off its floating effect sadly.
@@ColetheFlame01 Wasn't it light and divine? Pretty sure there's one head each for exactly the other five (which is why Mirage Knight works against it).
Ironic. Five headed Dragon _has_ an effect: it must be fusion summoned and can't be destroyed by battle with a Wind, Water, Wire, Earth, or Dark monster. (not the greatest effect given its 5000 Atk; might be mostly for plot reasons, I think this is the same effect as the one it had in the anime, where it was eventually slain by Mirage Knight, a light monster)
The Toon archetype. Is a retrain of the original monsters, with a toon spin off, which also has a retrain to his own main archetypal card "Toon World" in the form of "Toon Kingdom".
People forget that Ultimate Conductor Tyranno deals the burn damage FIRST. Then IF you do, send the target to the GY. The 1000 damage is mandatory in order for the target to be sent. So even if there was an effect that stops monsters from leaving the field, UCT will still burn the opponent.
Even Tokens too... Even if "Ultimate Conductor Tyranno" attacks a Defense Position Token, you can activate its effect that inflicts 1000 damage to your opponent and sends the attacked monster to the Graveyard. In that case, after inflicting 1000 damage to your opponent, the "Jurraegg Token" disappears instead of being sent to the Graveyard.
I think it’s debatable if apprentice allure magician is a retrain of dark magician girl, I think it’s honestly a whole different thing, there are waaaaaaaay too many differences in design
I like nerf retrains more that nerfed cards, some people consider this filler but is better than reprint a banned card with their original effect changed and ruined.
I agree Erratas should only be used to BUFF cards if anything. The only nerf erratas I say are okay are inclusion of the once per turn restrictions (wich in my opinion should just be the default rule for every effect on every card) and to account newer summoning mechanics (ex things like token summoning cards that became broken with link monsters)
I’m adding one to the list. Exodia necross it was upgraded to incarnate. Necross was made to be a monster only able to be defeated by attacking your graveyard but from it’s hard summon condition and only needing to remove one piece to destroy it. It was worthless. Incarnate fixes all of those problems. It’s easy to summon as you only to sacrifice one exodia piece to special summon it and the exodia piece can even be set in defense mode to do it. It has 1000 atk for each piece in the grave which will max at 5k if not on unlimited so you need to remove them from the grave to beat over it. Also it’s immune to all other card effects so it has the protection that necross never had. It’s last effect is a double edged sword where at the end phase you have to bounce an exodia piece from your grave to your hand so on one hand your building exodia on the other hand it loses 1k atk. Then using obliterate you can easily send exodia pieces to the grave I order to fuel it’s power and making the effect of obliterate reusable sense an exodia card is added to your hand.
It’s so ironic that Konami keeps releasing Dark Magician legacy support to make the archetype better when it’s used in good decks to make them better while DM continues to be ignored.
It's a good thing the Captain General faced Tzeentch with pre-erata Rescue Cat or else he never would've been able to beat their Magical Explosion + Morphing Jar otk
Some honorable mentions: Desperado Barrel Dragon Metamorphosised Insect Queen Evil HERO Adusted Gold and literally every other retrain besides Ancient Gear Golem - Ultimate Pound because it is a horrid card
Blue-Eyes Ultimate Dragon is my all-time favorite monster _(You can _*_literally_*_ tell by my username),_ so I'm always looking for ways to improve my Blue-Eyes Ultimate deck... That trap card you mentioned will definitely help because I know some people who use Lightning Storm! >:D
ive messed around with ultimate dragon decks once or twice. i hadn't heard of alternative, but beating through with Neo blue eyes is really good too. personally i found i favor the Magician Girls (Spear-headed by Quintet Magician), but still. Alternative ult would actually be a bit of an issue for one of my control lists, which survives off of Yubel. i would be able to slow you down, and get some pretty nasty chip damage in through ultimate nightmare's effect, but because i can't destroy it, it would eventually cause my wall to crumble.
Excluding Fusion, there's probably not too many (Gate Guardian is basically fusion too). Are you looking for something like Apprentice Illusion Magician? It's like DMG stats mixed with The Tricky effect, but doesn't really look like a hybrid but more of a Egyptian DMG in purple. Or maybe Exodia Incarnate being a mix/retrain of Necross but looking like the original? Skull Archfiend of Lightning/Red-Eyes Archfiend...though it's more of a retrain/alt version...Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon or Alternative Ultimate (wait, a fusion)? What about non-monsters, like Red-Eyes cards with Metalmorph, like B. Metal (wait, they spell it out for the longer name that's about as old...and BEWD is longer and older, wtf), Flare Metal or Darkness Metal? Or Maybe Toon World or Malefic monsters? Or Eye of Timaeus...though that's basically a Contact Fusion with a Spell...Cyber Harpie or Harpie's Pet Baby Dragon? Or...King of the Swamp (of Beast King and Fusion Sage). I'm thinking of old stuff of course, there's also Odd-Eyes that has merged with everything. Would be a good video seeing as non fusions seem to be hard to come up with.
The timestamp split feature is pretty neato Can't wait for RU-vid to eventually remove it like they always do with neato features, like annotations and submitting response videos to other videos
I use BLS in Duel Links, but that's it and I love ritual monsters so that speaks to how much they need to improve the summoning method. You know it is cumbersome when people who like it barely do so.
I know most people won't like that answer, but that's basically what Synchro is. Same basic principle (special summoning based around tributing monsters by adding up their levels) but you don't need to draw a specific ritual spell AND the boss you want to summon anymore. The spell was shoved up one of the mats's butt and the big boss is now accessible at any time.
Tribe-Infecting Virus has another unrelated Retrain, but with a similiar effect: Archnemeses Eschatos. (Which is a significantly better version of Tribe-Infecting Virus.)
@@promisnwekenta9703 And the card she searches is one that people actually ran once Dragoon hit, so even when Red-Eyes Fusion inevitably gets the hit for being a gigantic cancer enabler, the Souls and Dragoon Yugi-style DM splash meta will march on until power creep eventually passes even them or they get banhammered harder than expected...
I wonder why Konami just didn't errata Tribe Infection Virus with a hard once per turn condition as that way it'll be least broken as the original didn't have any restriction and you can just spam it one either players turn.
Pretty sure you get the Dark Magician search upon either Normal _or_ Special Summoning Apprentice Illusion Magician right? Also, I thought it was at least a solid two of in DM decks even before Souls.
The last time he pronounced it "Archefiend", people gave him a lot of Commentarys to "corrected" him. This time he only said it "false" once... I am pretty sure he does that on purpose 😂
My favourite retrain was sky scourge norleras. I made two actually decent decks around it. One which used zombie engines to spam out despair from the dark/zombie master ect after using phantom of chaos to steal its effect. But the other, was just full of level 8 dark monsters as trade in/allure bait, would get norleras into the grave and then use stuff like dark creator to summon them out or Dark Armed Dragon. It was shockingly consistent at doing this first turn. Obviously I never summoned Norleras but it was so obscure and CED had been banned for so long when I was doing this, that no one ever expected it. Good times.
Summoned Skull has two retrains too. Skull Archfiend of Lightning and Red-Eyes archfiend of Lightning which are obviously based on the Original card and given an Archtype and an effect supporting it's archtype.
Apprentice Illusion Magician is in such a weird position because the artwork clearly makes it a retrain, but the Dark Magician Archetype still wants you to run Dark Magician Girl because some of their best removal is tied to it.
Also she sadly wasn't given card text to count it as Dark Magician Girl like it's counterpart Dark Magician retrain because they thought she'd be too OP if she also counted as a Dark Magician Girl.
I haven't played Yu-Gi-Oh in years but this video single handedly got me interested again by referring to Blue Eyes Ultimate as a "beat stick" and that made me laugh way harder than it should have
Well I mean, Apprentice Illusion Magician has really fallen off as of late. And a lot of DM players play a single copy of Dark Magician Girl, including myself, simply because it grants you a lot of card advantage. Sure, it's basically a high leveled Garnet, but the extra Draw Power off Soul Servant, and the floating for The Dark Magicians fusion monster makes it so DM Girl grants you a whole lot of advantage
ngl, i really like the magician girl archetype, the ability to run my opponent around with targets while permenantly halving the attack points is pretty good. and being able to Magicalized Fusion for Quintet Magician when i can so easily have 5 different magician girls in my GY (which makes Quintet Magician nuke my opponents board) is really effective.
Dark magician Girl also has a less useful retrain as well, though I don't remember her full name. I just remember she had Mana in her name. Also Blue-eyes archetype actually makes summoning the blue-eyes fusion cards normally, pretty easy.
When this card is Normal or Special Summoned, you can set 1 "Virus" Trap card from your Deck. You can banish this card from your GY, target 1 monster you control whose original ATK is 1000 or less, triple its original ATK until the End Phase of the turn you activate this effect.
